Cyberpunk 2077 and the Final Fantasy VII remake got the most pre-sales during E3 week. But does the data even matter?

E3 2019 came and went, but something just feels different. Sony ($NYSE:SNE) and several other big names in gaming — Snap Inc. Games anyone? — weren’t there, attendance was reportedly down, and journalists at the scene felt like something was off.

Even Phil Spencer, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox ($NASDAQ:MSFT), wasn’t feeling the vibe down in SoCal, explicitely stating that, “I wish Sony was here.”

But, the show must go on, and plenty of new games were shown there. Out of the companies that had a booth presence at the event, here’s who won at E3 2019:

A split decision on GameStop, Amazon

We track sales rank data for Amazon ($NASDAQ:AMZN), one of the biggest e-commerce websites for video games, and GameStop ($NYSE:GME), which is falling under hard times as of late, but is still a frequent exclusivity partner for collector’s editons of popular games.

At GameStop, Cyberpunk 2077, an action role-playing game (RPG) made by CD Projekt Red ($CDPROJEKTRED), not only beat out all other games announced at E3, it even toppled the perennial powerhouses known as gift cards. According to aggregated sales rank data from June 10 (the day it debuted on Gamestop’s website) to June 14, Cyberpunk 2077 held the #1 and #3 spots in aggregated sales-rank for its PlayStation 4 and Xbox One Collectors Edition packs respectively. And, further down the list, its standard editions put in work too.

Por fin hemos podido entrar en ese mundo tan secreto de los chicos de CD Projekt RED. El estudio polaco ha estado trabajando durante mucho tiempo en este juego futurista y distópico y el tráiler es una maravilla en que merece que prestemos atención a cada detalle.

Es el caso del principio de este vídeo. Empezaron a aparecer una sucesión de códigos que se mostraban en pantalla y no sabíamos muy bien de qué se trataba. Pues bien, estos códigos desbloqueaban la edición GOTY de The Witcher 3, el último juego del estudio en salir al mercado antes de este cambio al futuro. Top 5 – The Witcher 3: The Best Runestones (And How To Get Them)

The debate on this topic has been as many-sided as an icosahedron. That d20 has finally landed, and it seems the gaming community has agreed on some pretty useful (and pretty useless) Runestones. No matter what path your Geralt build is on, the qualities of the following Runestones will improve your combat experience.

Getting the runestones is generally pretty easy. Any player who has played beyond the prologue, White Orchard, knows that Runestones are sold by vendors scattered throughout the land (yes, even Greater Runestones . . . hit up Keira Metz or The Peller). To craft a Runestone: you will need to shell out some crowns for the schematic and hunt down the ingredients. On the up side, the schematics are even easier to find, for many of the vendors sell them (and you’ll happen upon a few in quests).

Before we get to the list, let’s get real for a moment. A Runestone guide for this game hasn’t been relevant since 2016, mostly because the DLC, new expansions, and the meta has changed how people play The Witcher 3. Runestones are nearly an afterthought, or an add-as-you-find-’em affair. However, do not overlook their value. The Greater Runestones we’re about to recommend will raise your Damage Per Second (DPS), and can turn the tide of combat to your favor.

So, which Runestones should you Buy/Craft? At first, applying a stone that causes your enemy to bleed sounds like a solid purchase. Maybe the idea of burning your enemy is appealing? I don’t know your personal habits, pyro. All this to say, you will be sorely disappointed if you waste your money or materials on those Runestones, as there are a ton of enemies that are immune to bleeding and burning. Here are our recommendations, brought to you by hours of study and conversation with other gamers—like yourself.

Do not doubt the power of the stones! (not for throwing)

5) Zoria Runestone

Whether you’re sporting a Lesser, Regular, or Greater Runestone, the freezing effect provided by the Zoria finds its way through more enemy defenses. In combat, the effect will either slow your opponent down by frosting them, or it can freeze them temporarily, allowing you to hack away freely.

4) Stribog Runestone

The community consensus is that the staggering effect seems to trigger less often than our number 3 spot, but is more consistent than the freezing effect of Zoria. In combat, your opponent reels as your blow unbalances him, opening a window for you to follow with a strong attack or a flurry of fast attacks.

3) Triglav Runestone

Now the stun effect has true value. Fewer enemies are resistant to it, it lasts longer than staggering or freezing, and it seems to trigger far more often. In combat, your enemy will become dazed, giving you time to unleash combos, signs, or throw a devastating bomb at it. Using all your weapon slots for stun enhancement is not a bad method to adopt.

2) Svarog Runestone

The reason we placed these next two Runestones as the most valuable is simple: there are no enemies immune to damage. The armor piercing qualities of the Svarog Runestone help to increase your overall DPS by forcing more damage through the enemy’s defense. Stack this with the perfect tank or melee build, and your already-ridiculous DPS only gets better.

1) Chernobog Runestones

The most dependable and foolproof effect, adding Chernobogs to your weapons will increase your overall sword damage. Depending on the power of the blade, say a blade like the Aerondight, it can mean a massive boost to your DPS (a 15% stacked bump, if you throw on three Greater Chernobogs). Again, there are no enemies immune to damage, so focusing on this guaranteed boost is ultimately the way to go.

Yes, the DLC has altered the meta of The Witcher 3. Those abilities, enchantments, broader skill tree . . . these things make the greater difference in shaping Geralt’s power. But do not neglect those pretty rocks you find along the way. They can give you an edge when employed thoughtfully, enhancing your Witcher 3 experience.

Während Microsoft’s Pressekonferenz auf der E3 2018 gab es einen Video-Auftritt von Cyberpunk 2077. Das startete als eine Art Hacking-Video – Befehle in roter Schrift wurden in eine Konsole eingetippt. Und plötzlich erschien eine Reihe von Kombinationen aus Buchstaben und Zahlen. Cyberpunk 2077 von CD Projekt RED spielt in Night City, einer Stadt, die zum schlimmsten Ort zum Leben gewählt wurde. Die Kriminalität ist auf einem Rekordhoch.

Hab sogar noch ein abgegriffen, hat aber gut 2h gedauert xD allerdings ja nur Xbox von daher =(

Bin echt mal gespannt auf das Spiel.

Das ist ja mal echt eine gelunge und kreative Promo Aktion von/für CD Project Red. So die Witcher Spiele zu verschenken.

Muss sagen, der Trailer war weniger cyberpunkig als ich es erwartet habe, hatte es mir düsterer von der Atmosphäre vorgestellt, das wirkte eher wie GTA mit leichter Futuristiknote.

Ja gut man darf aber auch nicht vergessen das es „nur“ 2077 ist wir haben ja jetzt schon 2018 laut zurück in die Zukunft sollten unsere Autos auch schon fliegen. Villeicht wirds ja mit nem Nachfolger zb 2177 mehr cyber geben. Ach warten wir es einfach ab xD

Mit Tag und Nachtwechsel wird das sicher schon anders aussehen = ) Und vllt auch wenn man mal in die etwas düsteren Ecken kommt. Underground!

Wie sich herausstellt, verbirgt sich in dem Trailer jedoch mehr, als auf den ersten Blick vielleicht scheint.

Die Entwickler von CD Projekt Red verstecken in dem Video nicht nur eine geheime Botschaft zu Singleplayer, DLCs und Mikrotransaktionen. Die vermeintlichen Zahlen- und Buchstaben-Codes auf der DOS-Ebene, die kurz vor dem offiziellen Trailer über unsere Bildschirme flackerten, waren in Wirklichkeit Keys für die Game of the Year-Edition von The Witcher 3.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a future open-world RPG game for PS4, Xbox One, and PC based on the Cyberpunk 2020 RPG. Made by CDProjekt Red (the same creator of The Witcher), the game continues official release

The plot takes place in a dystopian future, in the violent metropolis of Night City, ruled by big corporations. That’s where V, cyberpunk on the rise, lives. The gameplay was recorded in the development version of the game, so a lot still can change until the release.

The transmission started without warning and showed only lines of codes on the screen. Only later it was revealed that it was the gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077 that had been shown exclusively to the press during E3 2018 and Gamescom 2018.

The Witcher: Nightmare Of The Wolf Means We’re Probably Going To See Vesemir In Season 2

The fact that Nightmare Of The Wolf centers on Vesemir seems like a setup for the character’s debut in The Witcher Season 2.

Although fans were mostly happy with Netflix’s The Witcher after its first season aired back in December, one major character was missing from the action: Vesemir. Now that Netflix has officially announced The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an animated film based on Vesemir’s origin story, there’s a pretty good chance we’re going to see the character pop up in season 2.

Following The Witcher‘s debut as the most watched first season of any Netflix show, it’s no surprise that the streaming service would go on to green light more projects surrounding the world of The Witcher. Nightmare of the Wolf’s goal is most likely to familiarize those who haven’t played the games or read the books with the character of Vesemir, setting the stage for the character’s live action debut in season 2.

That, and the fact that Vesemir is a huge part of Geralt and Ciri’s story, pretty much cements the idea that we’re probably going to see him in the show. In season 1, Geralt even references Vesemir’s name, meaning that he already exists within the live action universe, so it’s just a matter of time before we see his face.

As to who will be cast to play the old witcher, nobody really knows just yet. Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame expressed his interest in playing the character, and it seems like many fans love the idea. If it doesn’t end up being Hamill, there are certainly more than a few other actors out there that would be great for the role.

Whether Vesemir is there or not, The Witcher‘s second season is expected to be out some time in 2021. Unlike the show’s first season, the next installment will follow a more linear storyline instead of jumping back and forth across the timeline.

If you can’t bear to wait that long, you could always go back and revisit The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was recently rereleased on the Nintendo Switch and Xbox Game Pass. The 2015 Game of the Year is experiencing revitalized popularity thanks to the show, and the game without a doubt holds up today the same way it did five years ago.

I n some senses you might question the wisdom of having Hollywood’s most en vogue superstar turn up at your video game conference and upstage all your lovely games and shiny new hardware. But Microsoft was generally in that kind of mood, looking to live up to its billing as the sole headline act at E3 2019 given that PlayStation chose not to show up, heralding the announcement of its new Xbox Project Scarlett with the showbiz chutzpah you might expect of LA.

It certainly did that, with Keanu Reeves improbably being cast as Cyberpunk 2077’s Johnny Silverhand, appearing at the end of a trailer for the sci-fi thriller before striding out on stage, the gathered nerds losing their collective minds at the sight of their messiah. “You’re breathtaking,” one yelled, which apparently netted him a free collector’s edition of the game, which will surely have no discernible downsides such as more constant yelling at showcases. More on that later.

It was certainly a moment, as they say. Which even the unveiling of swanky new hardware (sort of) couldn’t live up to. In fact it wasn’t until later in the evening that Keanu came close to being upstaged, as Japanese game director Ikumi Nakamura won over the internet with an announcement of her game Ghostride Tokyo at the Bethesda E3 conference that was as pure an expression of bona fide excitement we might see on these stages.

S uch is the dearth of women in leading roles in game development, there was the unfortunate temptation for some to slip into the ‘adorable’ line of thinking about a talented game designer. Nakamura is a protege of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and a key contributor to games such as Okami and Bayonetta, now taking on her first director role. But her excitement was contagious nonetheless. And a sorely needed slice of humanity in an otherwise uneven show.

B ut we digress. E3, the gaming world’s biggest annual event (for now), had nominally kicked off a day earlier as EA began streaming fresh details on its upcoming games. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was the headline act, which looks like Uncharted with a lightsaber and, thus, pretty good if you like those kind of things. FIFA 20 is football with the expected updates and a new FIFA Street styled mode, which is pretty good if you like those kind of things. There were also updates on existing games like Apex Legends, Battlefield 5 and The Sims 4 which is, well, you get the idea.

So there was no great unveiling there, which to be fair to EA, was always what they had promised this year. It was also handy for the score of knackered UK games journalists yet to touch down on the baking LAX tarmac, including this one.

U s pasty lot were left to roast in the Californian sunshine as we queued up outside the Microsoft Theater ahead of the Xbox showcase. Rumours began to filter through that none other than Mario creator and Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto was in the building ready to drop news of an unprecedented Xbox and Nintendo team up. That turned out to be a big fib. But we did get Keanu instead, so we all got to freak out over a bastion of geek culture anyway.

Oh and they had lots of games. Most people had come for the unveiling of the new Xbox console, which has been codenamed Project Scarlett. Microsoft saved it for the end, but decided not to spend too much time on it. It’s coming next Christmas, it will be powerful, load times are a thing of the past and Halo Infinite will be a launch game for it. And no, we don’t know what it looks like or what it will cost yet.

S imilarly there wasn’t as much attention lavished on Microsoft’s cloud gaming proposition Project xCloud as was expected, especially after Google Stadia’s reveal last week. You expect this was a concerted decision to play to the gallery. Plenty of time to wonder about bandwidth and internet connections, show off the games that we’re going to be playing on it.

T hat’s where Xbox excelled. There was a ton of impressively diverse stuff from chunky blockbusters like Gears 5, interesting indie titles like timeloop mystery 12 Minutes (perfect for chinstrokers like me to proclaim highlight of the show) and family-friendly games like Minecraft Dungeons and Legend of Write. We got the From Software and Game of Thrones author George RR Martin’s fantasy collaboration Elden Ring and even a new Microsoft Flight Simulator.

There was a distressing lack of actual gameplay, but the slate was looking impressive. I thought we were going to get some Gears 5 action going on, with a crew of WWE wrestlers entombed under the stage seemingly ready to play new Horde mode Escape. But alas, we moved on. The current whereabouts of Xavier Woods and AJ Styles are currently unknown.

Throughout it all was the Xbox Game Pass logo being subconsciously drilled into our minds. Microsoft’s subscription service is the real centre-piece of its new strategy, be it for playing games on Xbox One, Scarlett or over the cloud. Xbox is funnelling resources into Game Pass like nobody’s business, expanding it to PC, and adding another studio under the Xbox umbrella in the shape of Tim Schafer’s Double Fine Productions.

O ften you fear the worst when big companies gobble up smaller studios, but the theory behind a subscription service is building out a compelling and diverse catalogue, rather than worrying too earnestly about individual sales figures. That’s the theory anyway, and Double Fine’s brand of quirkiness will fit the bill nicely.

A ll pretty impressive stuff, signed off by a demo of Halo Infinite running on Scarlett which, I must admit, sent a tingle down the spine. But that was possibly because of that music.

It had pace and style which, oddly the Bethesda conference later in the day couldn’t quite match. The Washington publisher has made a habit of punky, game-heavy showcases in the last few years. But here the tone was set early on with a slightly odd mea culpa from Bethesda Games Studios boss Todd Howard about the wonky state Fallout 76 was in at launch. It’s much better now though. And has battle royale coming.

It never quite recovered from that, not helped by the presenters constantly being interrupted by an incessant stream of WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYEAHHs from the gallery that greeted pretty much every completed sentence. Possibly this was coming from a guy who had indulged a little too freely in the pre-show drinks, but it took the cursed phrase ‘free-to-play mobile game’ in relation to the new Commander Keen title to get him to shut the hell up.

T hat said, while the show had its issues, the games on show were strong. The aforementioned Ghostride Tokyo is a spooky action-adventure from Mikami’s Tango Gameworks studio, with Nakamura’s reveal the undoubted highlight of the briefing. There was also a first look at Arkane’s Deathloop, which pits two assassins against each other that relive the same day on the lawless island of Blackreef.

B oth looked conceptually tremendous (if falling back on cinematic trailers again), but Bethesda brought the gameplay with the terrific looking shootybangs Wolfenstein Youngblood and Doom Eternal. The latter rounding off the conference with a crunchy dose of cathartic hyper-violence. And that was that for day one.

Although I can’t sign off without mentioning Devolver Digital’s surreal stream, a parodic E3 follow-up to its showcase last year that takes place in its fake executive’s consciousness. There was some good looking games amongst the madness, including the Takeshi Castle-esque Fall Guys, brilliant looking action game My Friend Pedro and 8-bit horror Carrion. It was weird and not something a jet-lag addled mind could entirely comprehend.

Same again tomorrow, I would imagine, as Ubisoft and Square Enix get their own moment in the sun.

Cyberpunk 2077 has an original release date of April 16 but given how CPR has delayed their previous projects including ‘The Witcher 3’, it might come out a bit later. It is such a big game and based on the lack of information and promotion, Cyberpunk 2077 launch might be delayed for some months. There is no way we can trust CD Projekt Red to deliver the next major title on the given time.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been under development for so many years and CD Projekt Red broke the internet when they announced the game will be coming in 2020 at E3 last year with Keanu Reeves as the surprise element. While it is a logical thing to go with the game developer’s timeline, one should also look at other factors and be prepared for something worse.

It’s 2020 and time to wait for Cyberpunk 2077 to release

The demos for ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ released till now are very limited and it has reminded everyone about ‘The Witcher 3’ release date fiasco. CD Projekt Red originally planned to release ‘The Witcher 3’ for a late 2014 launch but it was later postponed to February 24, 2015.

However, the game developer CPR could not deliver to the promise and came out with an open letter apology in December 2014, and ‘The Witcher 3’ title had a final release date on May 19, 2015. It won’t be a surprise if something similar happens with ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ as the game is so big and intricate with details.

Cyberpunk 2077 was announced in 2012 and the makers only announced a release date in 2019 which means it was not set hastily. The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 delay comparison is not fair as CD Projekt Red might have learned from their mistakes and won’t repeat the same. However, fans won’t have any problems with Cyberpunk 2077 launch delay if the gameplay for the RPG title meets their high expectations with its story and open-world elements.

Lors du récent E3 2019, le fantasmé Cyberpunk 2077 a continué de se concrétiser avec un nouveau coup d’œil offert à la presse ainsi qu’une date de sortie bien tangible. On commence même à saisir la nature du suivi post-lancement du RPG futuriste, tandis que CD Projekt Red se prononce à ce sujet auprès de Prima Games.

Alvin Liu, UI coordinator au sein de la société polonaise, a révélé à nos confrères que le titre attendu continuera d’étendre son univers lorsque ses possesseurs auront complété son lot initial de quêtes principales et annexes. Si le fait qu’un studio songe à la suite avant d’avoir livré le commencement fera sonner une alarme bien compréhensible chez certains, Liu affirme que CD Projekt travaille d’abord à livrer une expérience complète et aboutie, et ne retire rien du jeu principal pour le vendre à part. Un point sur lequel on peut être confiants, vu le suivi très honnête de l’entreprise quant à son dernier jeu de rôles, The Witcher 3.

Plutôt loquaces au sujet de leur dernier bébé, les concepteurs de Cyberpunk 2077 ont offert d’autres informations à la presse ces derniers temps. On a notamment appris chez VG247, de la bouche du lead quest designer Paweł Sasko, que les joueurs pourront sortir de l’immense Night City pour aller explorer la zone environnante : les malfamés et arides Badlands, patrie du gang des Nomads. Du côté de Gamasutra, on peut lire que l’entreprise travaille à rendre le créateur d’avatar très libre, avec la possibilité de choisir son physique indépendamment de son genre. Rappelons qu’en attendant de mettre les mains sur le jeu le 16 avril 2020, le public pourra visionner la nouvelle démo de l’E3 à la rentrée.

Dans le cadre de la publication de ses résultats sur l’année fiscale 2017, CD Projekt a dessiné un bilan chiffré de l’aventure The Witcher et en a profité pour faire le point sur l’état du mystérieux Cyberpunk 2077, dont le développement va bénéficier d’un précieux renfort. Un programme chargé que l’on se propose de synthétiser pour vous, sans nouvelle fracassante mais avec le goût des belles histoires polonaises.

Au moment de refermer le livre de l’année fiscale 2017, CD Projekt affiche le visage d’un comptable ravi : un chiffre d’affaires de presque 110 millions d’euros et un bénéfice net d’environ 47 millions d’euros (après conversion manuelle avec le zloty polonais) lui restent en mémoire. Si ces résultats sont en légère baisse par rapport à l’année fiscale 2016, les revenus du groupe CD Projekt après dépenses se maintiennent à un taux de 43% (coûts d’exploitation moindres). Pour expliquer cette dynamique toujours favorable malgré l’absence de nouveau triple A, la constance de la trilogie The Witcher est incontournable, avec 33 millions d’exemplaires écoulés depuis les premiers pas de Geralt en 2007.

Wild Hunt, dont les achats ont été réalisés plus de huit fois sur 10 sur PC et PS4 – à bonne distance des consoles Xbox One – est bien sûr l’épisode qui symbolise le changement de dimension de la marque polonaise. Leçon de monde ouvert en termes de richesse visuelle et sonore, le jeu sorti il y a trois ans se classe encore parmi les meilleures ventes Steam de 2017 et devance, du haut de sa sixième place et de ses 30,8 millions d’euros générés, des grosses productions plus récentes comme Assassin’s Creed : Origins. “En fait, nous avons vendu plus de copies du jeu en 2017 que durant l’année précédente”, indique le vice-président de CD Projekt Piotr Nielubowicz. Au-delà de l’aura de The Witcher 3 et de ses mises à jour successives, la popularité du DLC Blood and Wine amplifie un phénomène qui tranche avec les revenus moins durables des deux premiers jeux.

Moins spectaculaire que son voisin sorceleur, le Gwent participe aussi de ce succès d’entreprise et devrait enfin déployer sa version finale cette année, après un suivi qui s’intensifie peu à peu. Au cours des prochains mois, de nouvelles cartes, factions ainsi qu’une série de tournois eSport accompagneront la campagne solo et la fin de la bêta. Hébergé sur GOG, l’ancien mini-jeu adoré de Zoltan est aussi un moyen de mettre en valeur la plateforme maison qui a ajouté l’an dernier 450 sorties à son catalogue, aujourd’hui riche de 2350 jeux. L’outil GOG Galaxy, dont la version 1.2 ajoute notamment la possibilité d’intégrer les sauvegardes dans le cloud, est d’ailleurs censé accroître le rayonnement du concurrent de Steam, contribuant ainsi à la construction d’une image moderne et indépendante pour la compagnie CD Projekt. C’est donc logiquement que cette dernière se félicite d’avoir investi l’an dernier plus de 18 millions d’euros dans l’élaboration de nouvelles licences et dans d’autres projets de Recherche et développement, tout en ayant offert plus de 23 millions d’euros à ses actionnaires pour la première fois de son histoire.

Cyberpunk “prêt pour la nouvelle génération”

Préparant le terrain pour la fusée Cyberpunk 2077, dont le succès attendu doit correspondre à la prochaine étape de croissance, le président du groupe CD Projekt Adam Kiciński n’a pas oublié de délivrer quelques indications sur le jeu, en marge du bilan comptable évoqué. Comme on pouvait s’y attendre, cette production sera le réceptacle de grandes ambitions d’un point de vue visuel, Kiciński parlant même d’une “technologie très avancée” tout à fait “apte à s’intégrer avec la future génération de consoles”. Notifiant sans doute sa volonté de ne pas précipiter le développement de son AAA, l’un des hommes forts de CD Projekt ajoute que le titre pourra s’appuyer sur un hardware “très puissant” pour mettre en valeur son histoire, centrée le solo avec la possibilité de créer son personnage parmi plusieurs classes. La présence supposée du jeu à l’E3 2018 semble en revanche découler d’un malentendu, comme on peut le vérifier en consultant cette vidéo entre 23:35 et 24:10 (la question porte sur le programme E3 de CD Projekt en général, pas sur la présence de Cyberpunk 2077).

Refusant de confirmer ou d’infirmer la présence d’un mode multijoueur (et d’un mode battle royale), Adam Kiciński renvoie les joueurs au mantra publié en novembre dernier sur Twitter : “Quand vous pensez à Cyberpunk 2077, n’attendez rien de moins que The Witcher 3 – à savoir un grand jeu solo, un monde ouvert, une aventure RPG”. Au chapitre des informations timorées et des portes à demi entrouvertes par l’état-major polonais, signalons qu’aucun des futurs jeux de CD Projekt n’est pensé pour la Switch, mais la question sera peut-être étudiée en cas d’opportunité.

Yo siempre he sido más de Warhammer Fantasy que de 40.000, y creo que eso lo he llegado a comentar con vosotros en alguna ocasión. El artículo de hoy no va sobre la franquicia de The Games Workshop, pero me parece bien tomarlo como ejemplo para lo que os voy a contar. Hoy os vengo a hablar de la guerra silenciosa entre los fans de la fantasía épica y de aquellos que tiran más hacia los mundos de ciencia ficción.

Antes de nada, voy a poneros en situación. Todos necesitamos contexto antes de tirarnos al cuello de alguien, ¿verdad? Pues este texto de hoy viene por la idea que tienen en CD Projekt con respecto a su próximo juego, Cyberpunk 2077 . Y es que la desarrolladora polaca asegura que este nuevo proyecto va a gustar más que The Witcher 3 , en lo que a número de jugadores se refiere.

Sea esto así o no, y tenga la pinta que tenga el juego (del cual espero que sepamos algo en el próximo E3), una de las razones por las que el equipo piensa que Cyberpunk traerá mejores resultados, es porque, según sus propias palabras, la ciencia ficción tiene más público que la fantasía .

Al leer esto, me rasqué la barbilla y fruncí el ceño. No por enfado, sino pensativa. Siempre se ha dicho que la fantasía es un género muy particular , ya que en ella se encuentran mundos muy diferentes entre sí, a pesar de una temática más o menos común. Desde Harry Potter hasta El Señor de los Anillos, vemos que hay muchísimos universos, y muy diferentes. Universos que, también, han obtenido una adaptación a los videojuegos.

En el caso de The Witcher, hay que decir que razón en cierto sentido no le falta a CD Projekt. En Europa la saga protagonizada por Geralt de Rivia es muy conocida, por lo que no es de extrañar el éxito que obtuvo con la trilogía videojueguil. En cambio, fuera de nuestras fronteras europeas, las novelas no son tan famosas, por lo que por muy GOTY que haya sido The Witcher 3, no llama tanto la atención como puede hacerlo algo más mundialmente conocido.

Pero no se trata ya de novelas adaptadas, sino de videojuegos en sí que pertenecen al género de fantasía y que no cuentan con una marca conocida ya gracias a libros o películas. Sí hay que decir que títulos en los que la magia, los dragones y las criaturas mitológicas son los grandes protagonistas quizás no consigan tanto éxito como otros más… “modernos”.

¿Fuego y espadas? ¿Pistolas con rayos láseres y naves espaciales?

A mí personalmente me da la sensación de que la ciencia ficción engloba una mayor cantidad de títulos. A veces, incluso, ambas temáticas se entremezclan y acabamos viendo un poco de todo, como pasa en juego del tipo League of Legends (no sé por qué siempre me gusta ponerlo de ejemplo de algo, es como si fuera mi propia publicidad subliminal), donde se entremezclan armas de lo más variopintas. “Traigo pistolas para la pelea de cuchillos”, como dice Jinx.

No obstante, a grandes rasgos, quizás sí debamos agachar la cabeza y darle la razón a CD Projekt. Puede que la ciencia ficción tenga más público que la fantasía, que incluya universos mucho más diversos y que a todos nos gusten los juegos con pistolas y naves espaciales. O no. Al final, cada persona es un mundo, ¿verdad?

Lo que sí tengo claro de todo esto es que Cyberpunk 2077 me llama mucho , y espero que pronto tengamos más detalles. ¿Os imagináis que nos vemos en 2018 con un nuevo juegazo de la compañía polaca? Uy, qué hype… Pero, no, esto tiene pinta de moverse uno o dos años más allá. Crucemos los dedos y recemos por que me esté equivocando.
