Capcom Stream Shows Off New Resident Evil 3 Gameplay And Mechanics
If you’re like me, you’re waiting patiently for more news of the Resident Evil 3 demo to drop. Resident Evil rumors and leaks of all kinds have been dropping left and right lately, making any concrete details worth their weight in gold. While we still don’t have a solid date, on today’s Capcom TV stream we did get to see some new gameplay. The new gameplay was hosted by the Resident Evil community manager Kat “Katastrophe,” who started by stating that they hoped the stream would satisfy you until the demo is released.
The whole stream is linked above and is just over 2.5 hours long. The Resident Evil 3 bits start at around 30 minutes, with the gameplay itself starting at 42 minutes. In the gameplay, we get to see Jill fight some zombies, as well as the new dodge system that allows you to slow down time to land cinematic action shots. All in all, it’s only about 13 minutes of gameplay. It’s not much, but it does show off more of the new zombie models and physics.
Keep in mind, I have no idea if more substantial things were discussed during the stream. The entire thing is in Japanese. I don’t speak Japanese. So maybe they revealed all kinds of secrets I’m sure will be posted about in weeks to come. Still, it’s worth checking out just to see the game in action. If you do speak Japanese, let me know if anyone spoils an RE4 remake.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Resident Evil 3 is a game in the class of horror survival. Created by the Japanese organization Capcom. This is a makeover of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999). The game will be released on PC, Play Station 4, and Xbox One. It will have an online multiplayer mode “Resident Evil: Resistance.”
In the first game, there was a “tank control” (the character goes to and fro, turns left and right) and fixed camera points. The makeover uses a third-individual view. In online multiplayer mode, a group of 4 players acts against the “leader”. Fit for making traps, foes, and different risks.
The scenario of the game happens during the occasions of Resident Evil 2 in September 1998. Jill Valentine is a previous STARS official. In the city of Raccoon, because of the episode of the T-infection end of the world started.
Jill Valentine is attempting to escape from the zombie end times. Right now a sensible natural weapon Nemesis goes after her. Attempts to execute both Jill and different STARS of individuals.

Play as Jill in various skimpy outfits in another RE port to the Dreamcast? Um. sure!
Obviously, gamers that have played the PlayStation version of this game will find little new that warrants purchase of the Dreamcast version. I can’t fault them for that reasoning; besides the upgraded visuals and added options, the game is exactly the same. RE3: Nemesis takes place right after the events in the original Resident Evil where you control Jill Valentine. Having immediately resigned from the S.T.A.R.S. team, Jill must escape Racoon City, as more zombies and mutated creatures ransack the city into a nightmarish world of terror that will eventually create the setting for Resident Evil 2. Yes, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is more of a side story that takes place between Resident Evil 1 and 2 (crazy Capcom timelines).
So, escaping from the city filled with zombies seems like a no-brainer, eh? Well, there’s one slightly monstrous problem. Throughout the game, you’ll be hunted by a giant creature known as Nemesis (hence, the title of the game). Imagine “Mr.X” from Resident Evil 2 or a mutated Pro Bowl linebacker and you’ve basically got the idea. Not only powerful, the Nemesis is very cunning and has all sorts of nasty attacks up his. er. skin. It is this Nemesis that gives this game a kind of “teen horror” feel a la Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street, so it’ll be a definite treat for first time RE3 players to enjoy this Dreamcast version.
As mentioned above, the power of the Dreamcast gives RE3: Nemesis a decent visual facelift. Granted, we’re not talking about anything that’ll blow your mind away, but the character models are cleaner and the pre-rendered backgrounds look better for the most part. There are certain backgrounds that haven’t been improved and sometimes even look a bit worse than the PlayStation version’s — simply because of the higher resolution and sharper graphics. This is especially true with blood and/or fire effects but they don’t really affect the overall enjoyment of the game.
For the Dreamcast version, you’re given a few extra options. The one that I enjoy most (because I’m shallow like that) is the eight available costumes you can select at the beginning of the game. Among my favorites is the cat suit (woof) and an exact replica of Regina’s outfit from Dino Crisis. The other major option is the availability of the mini-game, Mercenary Mode, right off the bat. Select from three mercenaries as you try to reach the extraction point in two minutes. Of course, zombies and other nasties will stand in your way, and thankfully, killing them will give you extra time. And yes, that big balooka of a Nemesis will also make a few appearances.
Despite having played through the PlayStation version, I still thoroughly enjoyed Resident Evil 3: Nemesis on the Dreamcast. The slightly newer look, added options, and all the classic RE gameplay are enough for me to recommend this game to expert RE players — and those that have never played the PS version should really give this game a shot. Now, the only problem is, what will you have Jill Valentine wear?
Resident Evil 3: Who is Nemesis?
Best answer: More than merely being the main antagonist in Resident Evil 3, Nemesis (a.k.a. Nemesis-T Type) is a bio-weapon abomination with tentacle arms whose primary purpose is to kill all surviving Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.) officers, including yourself. You’ll encounter him over and over again as you attempt to escape the zombie-ridden Raccoon City.

Who is Nemesis anyways?
This horrifying enemy made his debut in the 1999 version of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and has since been in The Umbrella Chronicles, along with Resident Evil: Apocalypse. He’s the titular enemy in both the original RE3 and the upcoming 2020 remake.
To understand precisely what Nemesis is, it kind of helps to think of him as a biological weapon — like a Frankenstein’s monster turned bounty hunter. Men created him, he has brute strength, and he’s out to kill you and all the other surviving members of S.T.A.R.S. under the direction of the Umbrella Corporation.
He was created by Paris Labs, a European branch of The Umbrella Corporation, by placing a NE-α parasite into the body of a Tyrant (a.k.a. a biologically engineered super-soldier). Secretions from the parasite disfigured his body but provided him with regenerative abilities that make him a very formidable opponent. Unlike the other zombies and creatures you encounter, he’s intelligent and fast. Suffice it to say that you won’t want this large abomination with tentacles catching up with you.
As such, while making your way through Raccoon City, he’ll jump out at random moments and attempt to kill you. You’ll have to think quickly to get past his tentacles, his large gun, and his long reach.
What’s different about Nemesis in the remake?
Obviously, the visuals have gotten a serious overhaul, giving Nemesis a creepy new look. The skin around his mouth is permanently peeled away, revealing his elongated teeth, while his muscular body has more definition.
However, there are also a few gameplay mechanic changes that make Nemesis encounters more terrifying. In the original game, players could duck into a safe room in order to get away from this Tyrant on steroids. However, in the remake Nemesis will be able to access some rooms that have a save point. Basically, if it isn’t a proper safe room, he can still get in. You’ll have to work harder to escape him if you want to save your progress.
How does Nemesis compare to Mr. X in RE2?
If you’re one of the people who just played the Resident Evil 2 remake, then you’re probably wondering how Nemesis sizes up next to Mr. X. According to some folks who’ve already been able to get their hands on RE3, Nemesis makes Mr. X look like pushover.
Don’t get me wrong Mr. X can definitely make you freak out when he walks towards you, but he moves slowly. You see, Nemesis can appear seemingly out of nowhere. He’s incredibly fast, strong, and will launch you into a panic attack by sprinting directly towards you. Unlike Mr. X, he also carries weapons, including his signature rocket launcher. Basically, he’s Mr. X on steroids. You’re going to feel like you’re backed into a corner with nowhere to go when you face off against him.
It’s going to take a lot of split-second decisions and precise joystick movements in order to manuever around him and make your escape — that is, if you can stop screaming long enough to play effectively.

Resident Evil 3 Demo: Who Is Nemesis?
The iconic Nemesis returns in the Resident Evil 3, but fans that haven’t played the third entry might need an explanation on who the characters is.
The Resident Evil 3 demo gives fans a chance to experience a small section at the beginning of the game. Playing as Jill Valentine, players need to make their way through a zombie-infested Raccoon City and survive against all odds.
While zombies are the main threat, Jill also has to contend with the fearsome Nemesis, a massive bioweapon hellbent on hunting down the members of STARS.
Considering Nemesis was in the title of the original game, he’s integrally important to both the story and gameplay experience. For anyone looking for a little more background on Nemesis after the Resident Evil 3 demo, here are the character’s origins.
The Nemesis Project In Resident Evil
The Umbrella Corporation, the main villains of the Resident Evil series, had multiple bioweapon projects in development, trying to create the perfect weapon to sell to governments and militaries. Project Tyrant was the main one, responsible for crafting the BOWs known as Tyrants, like Mr. X in Resident Evil 2. Essentially the Tyrant project created a deadly virus that takes over its host and turns them into an incredibly powerful BOW. The Nemesis Project was created in tandem to Tyrant.
Nemesis created NE-α parasites to fix some of the side effects of Umbrella’s other work. The biggest downside to the Tyrant virus is that it would render it’s host unintelligent and violent. The Nemesis virus was able to take over the brain of a Tyrant host and restore it’s intelligence, making the creature even deadlier. The character known as Nemesis was one of the first Tyrants that were able to survive being implanted with the NE-α parasite, and the creature developed its own personality.
Nemesis’ Mission In Resident Evil 3
As the outbreak spreads in Raccoon City, Umbrella sends multiple BOWs there to get test data and see how they perform. After the destruction of T-002 in the first Resident Evil, the members of STARS become primary targets for Umbrella. Nemesis is sent to Raccoon City to hunt down any interfering members of the organization, and because of the creature’s heightened intelligence, it can instantly recognize members like Jill, as it was shown their profiles beforehand. Nemesis’ sole purpose in Raccoon City is to track and hunt down STARS members, then put them down before they can disrupt any more of Umbrella’s plans. The creature’s strategic thinking means it poses much more of a threat to Jill in Resident Evil 3 than MR. X did in RE 2.

Just days after surviving the grisly disaster at the mansion lab, Jill Valentine resigns from S.T.A.R.S. and vows to leave Raccoon City. Resident Evil 3: Can You Kill Nemesis?
In the Resident Evil 3 remake, Nemesis poses a major threat, but players may still find it worth their time to fight the monster.
Resident Evil 3 officially released today and players all over the world are exploring Raccoon City once again. Whether they are newcomers or veteran fans of the franchise, the remade graphics and gameplay are sure to keep everyone on the edge of their seats. But while dispatching zombies and helping Jill Valentine escape Raccoon City, there are bigger threats to watch out for like the dreaded Nemesis.
Nemesis is a Bio-Organic Weapon created by the Umbrella Corporation in their pursuit of developing the ultimate killing machine. Following the track record of Resident Evil monsters, Nemesis is as scary as they come and able to use many weapons in its mission to eliminate S.T.A.R.S. members. While the game actively encourages players to run away from the brute whenever encountered, there remains another question: can Jill fight and actually kill Nemesis?
Beating Up Nemesis
Unfortunately, players will find that Nemesis has plot armor and cannot be put down in the majority of encounters with it. However, players can hurt the B.O.W., and doing enough damage will make it reconsider pursuing Jill for the moment. While Nemesis can be fought and briefly incapacitated anytime it shows up during the events of Resident Evil 3, stunning it at certain points will also reward players with items from an Umbrella Supply Case that make their life much easier.
The Power Substation
The first time players can get Nemesis to drop an item will be after restoring power to the subway system. As Jill leaves the substation, Nemesis will ambush and begin chasing the player around. Throwing a hand grenade, blasting nearby red barrels, or shooting the enlarged heart on its chest will stagger the B.O.W. and cause it to drop a case containing an extended magazine clip for their handgun.
Outside a Donut Shop
Soon after setting a course for the subway, Resident Evil 3 players will encounter Nemesis in a brief cutscene as they walk out of a donut shop. After watching Nemesis transform another zombie, it can be knocked down via firepower or environmental hazards for another supply case which holds a handgun moderator. Note that this item can only be obtained before Jill gets on the subway.
In the Subway
The next time Nemesis can drop something will be while chasing Jill underground, away from Carlos. Detonate a couple of barrels or use lots of firepower to stop Nemesis in its tracks for now. Players should grab the dropped case and inspect it to receive some shotgun ammo for their troubles.
Past the Demolition Site
The last time players can loot an item from Nemesis will be after encountering the B.O.W. and its iconic rocket launcher at the demolition site. Nemesis should be lured back to the downtown area of Raccoon City, near the toy shop and a flight of stairs. After drawing it over, blast it with Jill’s weapons and collect a batch of grenade launcher flame rounds.
Much like Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, players won’t be able to kill Nemesis until the plot demands it. But taking it down temporarily during these important moments is worth the player’s time in items and the associated trophy, Let It Go.

How Resident Evil 3 Made Nemesis Scarier Than Mr. X
Mr. X was the breakout star of Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake. That trench coat-clad, paleface monster looked a bit absurd, but we stopped laughing as soon as he started chasing us through the halls of Raccoon City’s police station. The remake of Resident Evil 3 has an intimidating Tyrant of its own, but this creature will be an even bigger part of the experience. If Capcom has its way, Nemesis will put Mr. X shame.
“The fact that he’s this hulking mass constantly chasing after you make him pretty scary,” says producer Peter Fabiano. “The fact that he can use weapons, the fact that once he appears he’s going to be constantly in your face trying to get at you, and the fact that he can use his tentacles to grab you all makes him incredibly formidable. We wanted to make him feel imposing and I think that comes through in his movements and his appearance. His appearance is something that we put a lot of time and effort into, trying to get just right.”
In order to nail that sense of dread that players expect from Resident Evil games, Capcom felt that it needed to spend extra time reworking Nemesis’ design. Yonghee Cho is Capcom’s art director and has been working on the series since the development of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. When Cho started on Resident Evil 3, he knew he had his work cut out for him with Nemesis. Naturally, the art team started by going back to the original concept drawings from the ‘90s, but they struggled to adapt that design for the modern era.
“It just felt like more of the same, so we went back to the drawing board,” Cho says. “The first thing I saw was the clothing. It felt strange to be creating a bioweapon and have it wear clothes. Rather than having him wear clothes, we had him wear something synonymous to a bodybag, something that made him feel like a restrained weapon. At the same time, I wanted to stay true to the original, so the silhouette of the Nemesis still has that iconic look.”
Capcom’s sound team also ramps up the tension with a pulse pounding soundtrack whenever Nemesis is on screen. During our playthrough, Nemesis’ presence really flustered us, and we had trouble thinking straight whenever he showed up. Brave players can try to go toe-to-toe with Nemesis and those who take him down will be rewarded with weapon upgrades and other goodies, but these battles are hard and Nemesis always returns for another battle. In fact, Nemesis remains incredibly dogged throughout the game and isn’t as easy to run away from as Mr. X who’s plodding movements made him easy to outrun.
With Nemesis, Capcom has another legendary villain on its hands, but you won’t have to take our word for it for long. Resident Evil 3 releases on April 3. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis – Clock Tower Plaza boss fight Resident Evil 3 guide, walkthrough
This page of the guide to Resident Evil 3 Remake contains a detailed description of the second battle with Nemesis. This duel with the boss takes place in the Clock Tower Plaza. Nemesis attacks Jill by surprise after climbing a bridge leading to the courtyard adjacent to the clock tower. You must defeat Nemesis Stage 2 – he is now a four-legged beast.
The fight begins shortly after leaving the Sewers and entering the bridge leading towards the Clock Tower. Nemesis jumps out of the water to attack Jill by surprise.
You have to complete a partially playable scene. Just run ahead. On the way, Jill will automatically block Nemesis’ path and jump over the holes.
You will advance to a full-fledged fight with Nemesis after reaching the round courtyard. You have full control over the character.
The game doesn’t allow you to use an item chest just before the start of this fight, but you can find large amounts of stock in the courtyard. Run around its periphery and check the vehicle wrecks. You will get ammunition for the grenade launcher and some healing items.
During the duel, Nemesis tends to use melee attacks. The boss is primarily making single swings with his upper limbs. His more dangerous attacks are a short charge and a powerful ground slam, which happens when the boss is standing on his back limbs.
Try to run as much as you can and dodge at the right times to avoid getting hit be the boss.
You can use all your weapons to attack Nemesis, but the grenade launcher and shotgun are the most effective. If you want to use the grenade launcher, we recommend using Mine Rounds. The boss can easily activate a landmine. This reduces the risk of missed and wasted rounds.
In the later phase of the fight, Nemesis will be running on the roofs of nearby buildings for some time. Don’t attack him then, just use your free time to collect supplies.
You have to be careful, because Nemesis will end with a long jump from the roof of one of the buildings. This is the strongest of all Nemesis’ attacks. Quickly leave the spot where Jill was when the boss began the jump, as that is exactly where he will want to land. If you don’t do that, you can get seriously injured or even die on the spot.
Continue using a grenade launcher and/or shotgun to attack the boss and replenish supplies every time he returns to the rooftops. You have to keep fighting until you get a cut-scene.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis – NEST 2 boss fight Resident Evil 3 guide, walkthrough
This page of the guide to Resident Evil 3 Remake contains a detailed description of the third battle with Nemesis. This duel with the boss takes place in NEST 2 – Umbrella Corporation’s secret laboratory. The fight takes place in a large circular tank – Nemesis will be accompanied by regular zombies. The Nemesis itself will be in Stage 2 form.
The fight will begin shortly after reaching the great hall in NEST 2 presented in the picture above. The fight starts when you get on the stairs. Save the game and replenish stocks before facing Nemesis. A typewriter and items chest can be found in Workers’ Break Room.
We recommend taking as much magnum, grenade launcher and rifle ammunition as possible and at least two medications to make a full recovery. There are supplies in the “arena”, but you will have to watch out for Nemesis and regular zombies.
The battle begins after Nicholai throws Jill into the arena, which is a large circular tank.
In the first part of the fight, it is best to attack Nemesis with a grenade launcher. A few hits should be enough to keep the boss in place. Grenade launcher rounds will make it significantly harder for Nemesis to move towards Jill.
As with the previous fight at the clock tower, Nemesis will try to use melee attacks. The most dangerous ones are powerful upper limb ground slams, leaps, and charges. Try to keep a safe distance from the monster and dodge to the side when you see that he is planning to hit the ground with his paw or charge at you.
The second part of the fight will start after a short cut-scene showing Carlos. He will help Jill figure out where Nemesis is hiding.
During the second phase of the fight, Nemesis will run around the edge of the arena from time to time. Don’t attack him then, just do other activities – attack regular zombies and pick up supplies.
Unfortunately, regular monsters will also appear in the arena. We don’t advise ignoring them completely, because there’s a high risk they will attack Jill from behind while you are busy fighting Nemesis. There are two main ways to solve this problem:
- Use a Burst gun or shotgun to knock zombies to the ground. Don’t waste your time killing them.
- Attack Nemesis with the grenade launcher when there are zombies near him. Chances are a grenade attack will hit both targets.
Nemesis will be hiding behind the tanks – listen to Carlos’ comments. He will give you the tank’s number. In the example above, you can see Tank number 4.
Find the tank quickly and shoot 1 or 2 red buttons. Nemesis will get electrocuted.
Note – If you miss the red buttons, the boss will jump out from the tank. If you fail to avoid this attack, you will receive a lot of damage or even die.
If you manage to electrocute the boss, Nemesis will fall to the ground and be vulnerable for some time. Use this opportunity to attack him. Since the boss can’t move, you can use the magnum – you don’t have to worry about missing any shots.
In the second phase of the fight, the boss will also begin to use stronger variations of his melee attacks. Watch out first for the attack signaled by a moving tentacle. If possible, move away quickly from Nemesis – a tentacle attack can be vertical (hitting the ground) or horizontal (making a wide swing).
Continue using the grenade launcher, magnum, shotgun and shrapnel grenades to weaken Nemesis. Deal him enough damage to trigger a cut-scene.
Resident Evil 3 Remake Nemesis Mod Restores the Villain’s Classic Head from the Original Game
A freshly-released mod for the PC version of Resident Evil 3 Remake brings back Nemesis’ classic head from the original PlayStation game.
Capcom did a great job redesigning the characters for the most recent Resident Evil Remake, but as with most redesigns, there are some who prefer the original character models. In comes a new mod that resizes the Pursuer’s teeth to normal proportions.
As mentioned by the mod’s creator, the “Nemesis Classic Head” mod is a just a small modification, but one that might make a big difference for fans.

Resident Evil 3’s Nemesis Would Be Terrified Of Mr. X
In theory, Nemesis is a far more terrifying villain than Mr. X.
Despite being the headlining star of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and its remake, Nemesis actually isn’t all that terrifying compared to Resident Evil 2‘s Mr. X.
As proven by its appearances in 1999’s Resident Evil 3 and the 2020 remake, Nemesis is, in theory, a truly formidable villain. With an attached firearm, imposing figure, and an absurd amount of endurance, Nemesis is a foe that should certainly be feared, especially by members of S.T.A.R.S. However, while Jill Valentine is justified in her fear of Nemesis, players ought to be just as terrified of Nemesis. Yet, there’s simply little reason to.
As is the wide perception held by many Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remake players, Nemesis was a villain that should have been more overwhelming than it was. It’s a huge, human-like, muscular monster that chases after its targets with the intensity of a Terminator. It uses deadly firearms and can pull in its targets with vine-like ligaments. It can deal huge amounts of damage but still pales in comparison to what was essentially its Resident Evil 2 counterpart: Mr. X.
Mr. X is almost — in theory — the opposite. Although similarly imposing and with an appetite for killing living beings, Mr. X wears a silly trenchcoat with an ill-fitting fedora and tracks down its targets at a fairly slow speed. Really, Mr. X is less lethal than Nemesis. However, Mr. X remains scarier.
Well, there’s probably a few things going on. Resident Evil 2‘s eerily empty atmosphere sets a mood far more isolating than Resident Evil 3. This is by design since the original RE2 took place in an abandoned police station while RE3: Nemesis took place on the city streets of Raccoon City. Even so, the echoing stomps of Mr. X’s boots are way more likely to stop one’s heart than the rapid steps of Nemesis who, to be fair, is quicker to track down its targets. Still, Mr. X’s presence strikes far more fear in the hearts of players than Nemesis.
In theory, Nemesis was a far more terrifying villain than Mr. X. However, Mr. X’s even more arbitrary appearances and atmosphere-completing nature make him a Tyrant that should scare the pants off of Nemesis.

When the fight begins, quickly move to the rotting piles to your left to grab First Aid Spray and Handgun Ammo. Turn around and fix your camera on Nemesis to anticipate his attacks.
Nemesis has very noticeable tells when he is about to strike. He will wind up his arm to perform either a wide-rang swipe or a downward crush. He will also briefly pump both arms on the ground before lunging at you to bind you.
A good strategy to use against him is to bait him into throwing out attacks. Stay on the move while strafing to the side to create some distance from him. After he swings and misses, pepper him with shots. Your window to damage him is usually enough for about three shots using a shotgun before you should go on the defensive again. Timing your dodge is also a good way to avoid Nemesis’ attacks, especially his lunge.

After doing enough damage, Carlos will arrive. Nemesis will hide in one of the tanks above as zombies appear in the area. Listen to Carlos to find a out which tank Nemesis is hiding behind and shoot its two glowing panels to damage the boss. This leave him open for follow-up attacks before he can retaliate. You can quickly take out the zombies that appear before Carlos gives Nemesis’ position. Note that taking too long to shoot the tank also allows Nemesis to ambush you. As the fight progresses, you will need to shoot the panels faster as the boss will give you less time to do so before it strikes from above.
After the cutscene, proceed ahead to the staff break room. You can save your game here if you want. You can use the item box on the right to restock on items and ammo as well. Afterwards, head to the door past the typewriter and follow the walkway. After another cutscene, get ready to take on Nemesis one last time.
When the fight begins, turn around and use the railgun to fire at the boss. Afterwards, you will need to charge the gun again by pushing the red power cores into the wall.
Nemesis has a number of attacks in this phase. He will shoot acidic gas that damages you when you come in contact with it. He can also perform massive swipes with his arms that can be avoided with a well timed dodge. These make it harder to push the power cores into the wall.
To give you time to push the cores, shoot the glowing circular masses growing on Nemesis using the grenade launcher. After you take them out, Nemesis will be knocked out momentarily. Be careful as his massive body falling to the ground can damage you if you are within range. After you have pushed all power cores into the wall, the railgun will be usable again. Fire it to finish off Nemesis.
