In Cyberpunk 2077, Keanu Reeves is the key to immortality
Keanu is the alpha and the omega
Cyberpunk 2077 has always been a game full of surprises. From its initial debut, to the trailer that showed completely destructible environments, to Microsoft’s press conference that had Keanu Reeves on-stage to talk about the game – Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the strangest, most interesting games we’ve seen in the last few years.
And it’s about to get even weirder.
At E3 2019 we got the chance to see a closed-door demo of the game in which Keanu’s character, Johnny Silverhand, got a full explanation. The weirdest part of this? Keanu may in fact be the key to immortality. Yes, you read that correctly.
Insane in the membrane
It’s not any stretch of the imagination to say that Silverhand is integral to the plot of Cyberpunk – in fact, as far as we can tell, he is the plot.
In Cyberpunk 2077 you play as a mercenary named V in Night City, a fictional metropolis in Northern California. What makes V special and Silverhand so important is that the two become linked early in the game through a biochip, a piece of hardware that can interface with your brain. The chip is planted inside V’s head against his (or her, if you play a female character) will. Inside this chip is Silverhand’s consciousness – and, quite possibly, the key to immortality.
Over the course of the game you’ll be fending off hackers who want to jack into your brain, ruthless gang leaders who want to use you and throw you away, and a covert government agency called NetWatch whose motives will remain a mystery until the game comes out next year.
In order to unlock the secrets to the biochip, what basically becomes the main thread of the game, you’ll have to meet up with Alt Cunningham, the most legendary net runner of all-time. The only problem? She’s dead.
But her consciousness lives on the web and you’ll need to do whatever it takes to track her down – including, but not limited to, befriending or eliminating leaders of the biggest gangs in Night City.
Meet the Voodoo Boys
The main focus of our hands off demo was the sub-city of Pacifica, the southern-most part of Night City. Inside, two gangs – The Animals and The Voodoo Boys – are fighting for supremacy.
In order to meet Bridgitte, the head of the Voodoo Boys, you’ll have to first deal with her lieutenant Placide, who wants you to infiltrate The Animals’ hideout. Your goal, at least you’re told, is to find a high-tech van that’s monitoring all the network traffic in Pacifica.
In order to get to this van, you’ll have to make your way past The Animals’ crew. The reason they’re called The Animals, it turns out, is because they take a drug that enhances their muscle mass. To get through them you’ll either need to fight your way through – a risky proposition – or sneak your way into the hideout.
Tabletops eat your heart out
Missions like these, plus the journey to track down the Cunningham and unlock the secrets of the biochip, are the main threads that hold Cyberpunk 2077 together, but they’re far from the only objectives in Night City. From what we’ve seen there’s a fair amount to explore, gangs to impress/piss off and an Altered Carbon-esque city bursting at the seams with side content.
While exploring all that content you’ll be able to play the game your way: You’ll customize your character’s look; you’ll customize their backstory; you’ll customize their base skills and you’ll give them perks that make them who they are. If you want a ninja samurai who came from the streets and is skilled in firearms and hand-to-hand combat, you can make that. If you want a net runner super hacker that can take over turrets and jack into enemies, you can make that, too.
The choices are vast, and while they’re not completely limitless, CD Projekt Red doesn’t want to confine you to a single play style or set path.
The reasoning behind that, it seems, is to better mirror the game’s source material – a 30-year-old tabletop role playing game called Cyberpunk (however, there was also a later edition called Cyberpunk 2020).
Behind all of the hacking and gunplay lies a fairly complex RPG – the perks screen we saw during our demo had more than 20 perks to choose from and level up. These perks impact how your character plays, but can also impact what choices you have in conversations with the world’s NPCs.
ERROR ERROR ERROR
Before we wrap this up, a word of caution: putting CD Projekt Red’s game on a pedestal probably isn’t the wisest move right now. What we saw this year was different than what audiences saw last year and in developer diaries: we didn’t see environments get destroyed in our demo, for example, the game still required loading screens when fast-traveling and Cyberpunk’s ‘beautiful next-gen graphics’ didn’t shock and awe the same way they did a year ago.
Now, these are things that could be fixed before the game’s release. Maybe the destructible environments only work in a few spots right now, and fast-traveling without loading screens isn’t feasible with current hard drive limitations.
So much could change before the game comes out – and while we’re sure that this is one of the best games here at E3 2019, we’re not going to hype it up too much without seeing a bit more before the game comes out on April 11, 2020.

Keanu Reeves Describes Cyberpunk 2077 As “Breathtaking”
By Tyler Fischer – June 9, 2019 07:47 pm EDT
Today during Microsoft’s E3 presser, CD Projekt Red revealed Cyberpunk 2077’s release date and a new trailer, and somehow that wasn’t even the biggest Cyberpunk 2077 news of the show. Because during the aforementioned trailer the Polish developer revealed that Keanu Reeves, yes Keanu Reeves, is playing a character in the game. And because of how good modern motion capture is, the character looks exactly like Keanu Reeves.
But things got even better. Keanu Reeves was at the conference, walked out on the stage, and talked about Cyberpunk 2077 to a reception I’ve seen few game reveals or announcements ever get. Everyone went crazy as Reeves tried to talk about the ambitious open-world RPG, which he describes as “breathtaking.” You can see the moment for yourself, below:
It’s unclear how much of a role Keanu Reeves character will have in the game, but presumably it will be a pretty big one or maybe it will just be a small cameo. It’s probably the latter, after all, I can’t imagine he’s very cheap to get into the booth and motion capture studio. But who knows, maybe he has a big role (UPDATE: CD Projekt Red has confirmed he’s playing a key character in the game).
Whatever the case, this is a huge get for CD Projekt Red, even if the role is smaller. The marketing potential with Keanu Reeves is massive, and there’s certainly even more people paying attention to the game now.
Cyberpunk 2077 is in development for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and is slated to release on April 16, 2020. (pre-orders are live now). For more news, media, and information on the highly-anticipated cyberpunk open-world RPG, be sure to peep all of our previous and extensive coverage of the game by clicking right here.
As always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think or hit me up on Twitter @Tyler_Fischer_ and let me know over there. Are you excited to see Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077?

Cyberpunk 2077: Keanu Reeves Has the Most Dialogue of Any Character (Besides You)
“We have something around 15-ish days of voice recording in the studio.”
Co-founder and joint CEO of CD Projekt Red Marcin Iwiński divulged this information in an interview on the E3 Coliseum hosted by Geoff Keighley. When asked if Keanu’s role was a big part of the game and not just a cameo, Iwiński said, “The whole intention with Keanu in the game was to have a very meaningful character that fits into the lore. If we looked at all the actors out there, everything Cyberpunk, it’s Keanu.
“We had a lot of back and forth, and we decided to approach him, it was about a year ago. There was a meeting arranged and we showed him the script, and he immediately got into the role and he really liked it. I think it’s really worth to mention that, maybe it’s a cameo? Maybe it’s just a short side quest kind of person? No. He’s the number two character in terms of lines and spoken text. [throughout the] entire game. I think we have something around 15-ish days of voice recording in the studio, so it’s huge. It’s huge. You will see a lot of Keanu, you will hear even more of Keanu in the game.”
Cyberpunk 2077 Developer Interviews
IGN’s own Tom Marks interviewed Cyberpunk 2077’s quest director Mateus Tomashkevich, info from which can be found in our Cyberpunk 2077 preview. We found out Johnny Silverhand is “this digitalized personality that is present in your head that you can see but nobody else can see in the world. He has a huge role in the game, and he’s present most of the time. You create a relationship with this character a lot as you progress through the game. […] It’s a pretty significant character in the game’s storyline and the general experience.”
Elsewhere in the E3 Coliseum interview, Iwiński discussed CD Projekt Red’s future, and how its production pipeline could potentially change following Cyberpunk 2077.
“We are getting close to 1,000 talented individuals, most in Poland. Around 700 is development, 400-something is Cyberpunk, so the vast majority of our teams are working on Cyberpunk,” said Iwiński. “We also have Gwent, we also have GOG, our digital distribution platform, and then we have a very strong internal publishing arm. Our dream for the future is to be able to have two teams, working simultaneously on the product: two big games at a time.”
‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Cinematic Trailer Sets in Motion Star Actor Keanu Reeves’ Gaming Journey
A most anticipated game of the decade ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ by CD Projekt Red stars Keanu Reeves and its cinematic trailer is raising eyebrows.
‘Cyberpunk 2077’ has dropped its trailer at the E3 2019 press conference, but that’s not the only reason it’s grabbing a million eyeballs. Well, ask yourself, what happens when action wonder John Wick strikes a deal with the gaming world? Sounds sensationally phenomenal, isn’t it? Well, truth be told, star actor Keanu Reeves is making his gaming debut with one of the most anticipated games of the decade, ‘Cyberpunk 2077’.
Keanu Reeves will be slipping into the shoes of ‘Silverhand’, a character from ‘Cyberpunk 2020’, that released in 1990. However, the original game ‘Cyberpunk’ dates back to 1980, inspired by a novel by Walter Jon Williams, named ‘Hardwired’. Back then ‘Cyberpunk’ used to be a tabletop roleplaying game that eventually garnered immense popularity, turning out to be one of the most sought after games of today’s time.
Set in a futuristic world of cybernetic mutations, a character in the game’s trailer gets trapped in a fussy deal and wakes up in a junkyard after getting knocked out. His system is rebooted and we envision the dashing Keanu Reeves as ‘Silverhand’, sporting a stunning silver arm.
According to ‘Cyberpunk 2020’ Reeve’s character belongs to the Rockerboys community who are the bards or poets and rebels. As Reeves attempts to encourage the player’s character saying, “we have a city to burn” , implies, ‘Silverhand’ is definitely on the player’s side, which could be you!
‘Cyberpunk 2077’ developed by CD Projekt RED could be enjoyed on platforms like PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Releasing on April 16, 2020, ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ is open for pre-orders.
So, are you ready for the decade’s most emphatic gaming experience?
Fan Saying Keanu Reeves Is ‘Breathtaking’ During ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Trailer Launch Is All Of Us
Leave it to Keanu Reeves, one of the greatest human beings to ever grace this planet, to outshine every video game that Xbox showed off at E3 on Sunday.
It turns out that Reeves is in the highly anticipated game Cyberpunk 2077, which is being made by the same developer who gave us The Witcher series. And to help hype up the game and the news of its release date, Reeves himself came on stage to deliver the good word.
Someone from the audience clearly yelled out to him that he is breathtaking, which is objectively true, and he yelled back that they, in fact, are breathtaking. And then he elaborated that everyone is in fact breathtaking, including you and me.
It’s been a lot for the internet to handle.
Sure, Cyberpunk 2077 looks cool and the rest of Xbox’s lineup was good, but Reeves stole the show.
Xbox knew to give the people what they want: star of The Matrix and John Wick, Keanu Reeves.
what companies think gamers want: video games
what gamers actually want: keanu reeves telling you that you are loved
Of course, as a character in a game like Cyberpunk 2077, people are wondering if it will be possible for players to develop a romantic relationship with the character. That would be icing on the cake.
But do I get to romance Keanu Reeves, CDProjektRed?
Someone pointed out that Reeves’s introduction to the gaming world means that he could, someday, be in Super Smash Bros. I want to live in that world.
keanu reeves is in a video game now so he can be in smash
It’s clear that, between John Wick 3, Toy Story 4, Always Be My Maybe, and Cyberpunk 2077, this is a bona fide Keanu Reeves renaissance.
Good luck matching that, other video game companies.
Cyberpunk 2077 features the real Keanu Reeves, to be released in 2020
Keanu stole Xbox’s E3 show
Microsoft‘s E3 2019 briefing is probably the biggest keynote of this year’s gaming convention. With all the games in the pipeline for the Xbox, there’s one title that stood out — Cyberpunk 2077. The game has been in the works for years and it was initially teased last year.
During Xbox’s keynote, Microsoft revealed a new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 that finally showed the game’s release date and introduced a big-name character: Keanu Reeves. The trailer is similar to last year’s which shows a dystopian future.
Keanu Reeves stars as “Mr. Fusion” in the game as a surprise reveal at the end of the trailer. Additionally, the celebrity showed up on stage to excite the crowd and announce the game’s release date of April 16, 2020.
Known for its Witcher series, CD Projekt Red developed the new Cyberpunk title, which is based on the older Cyberpunk 2020 game from the 80s. The game is an open-world shooter with heavy character customizations using implants to change people’s appearance and abilities.
The game is coming to Xbox One, PS4, and Windows.

Following up the Switch’s best game
Leave it to Nintendo to make the announcements that are worthy of closing the pre-E3 keynotes.
During Nintendo’s keynote, the company announced that a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is in the works. A trailer was provided but didn’t show anything in terms of gameplay.
Instead, we see main characters Link and Zelda exploring a cave, seemingly continuing where they left off from the first game, and finding a ghastly corpse that awakens.
Breath of the Wild is considered by many to be the best game on the Switch (along with Super Mario Odyssey), as well as the highest-rated entry in the long-running series, so any mention of a sequel is fantastic news.
Sadly, Nintendo didn’t provide a release date or any other details. All we know for sure is that this will be another Switch-exclusive.
Final Fantasy VIII is getting the remaster it deserves
At long last, Final Fantasy VIII is releasing on newer consoles. It had been notably absent when Square Enix launched fellow FF-series games lately. Somehow, they got their shit together for this.
Unfortunately, it isn’t a remake like what we’re getting out of Final Fantasy VII for the PS4. Rather, this is only a remaster of the classic PlayStation title with the same gameplay mechanics and slightly improved graphics.
This is the official trailer:
“Coming 2019” is all we have for a release schedule. The good news is we’ll see it on the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Steam — no mobile version, however. Previously, a vanilla version of FFVIII arrived on PC in late 2013.
For context, the original game came out in 1999. It’s time for younger millennials to get a taste of emo protagonists from the 90s.
Ubisoft announces third Watch Dog installment, coming in 2020
Ubisoft has announced Watch Dogs Legion during its E3 2019 keynote in Los Angeles. It’s the third installment in the Watch Dogs series and has a release date of March 6, 2020. As earlier leaks suggested, the new Watch Dog game is set in a hyper-surveilled, post-Brexit London.
What’s new in Watch Dogs Legion‘s gameplay is the use of multiple characters with different skill sets. Instead of just a single protagonist throughout the game, gamers can finally take control of other characters of interest.
Characters include an MI5 agent, a tough bare-knuckle fighter, a brilliant hacker, an illegal street racer, a rising football star, and a geriatric grandma.
Each character has “a persistent schedule and backstory,” according to Ubisoft. Gamers can recruit them to the hacker group DedSec by convincing them to fight “criminals, a corrupt private military corporation, and an oppressive surveillance state amidst a collapsed government.”
Here’s the world premiere trailer:
As for the gameplay details, it’s explained in the video below:
The original Watch Dog was first released in 2014 as an open-world action-hacking title. It was an interesting game despite the so-so reception of critics. It still got its sequel in 2016 which was more well-received than the first one.
Cyberpunk 2077 Game Trailer Brings Keanu Reeves to the Party
A brand new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 is here, and it’s bringing Keanu Reeves to the party. This is a game that has been in development for a long time and people have been eager to know more as it quickly approaches. Luckily, the folks at CD Projekt Red, who have been developing the project, showcased a massive, cinematic trailer at E3 not only revealing the epic video game that awaits, but also revealing that Reeves will be in it.
The new video game trailer was showcased as part of Microsoft’s E3 presentation. The footage itself wowed the crowd. Though, it didn’t hurt matters by any stretch that Keanu Reeves actually showed up on stage, in addition to popping up as a complete surprise at the end of the trailer. Reeves also finally announced when the highly-anticipated game will be hitting shelves. Mark your calendars for April 16, 2020.
As for the footage itself, it’s beyond impressive. We start off with a view of Night City, which has some Blade Runner vibes going on. Our main character V then shows up in a bullet-beaten car to a seedy motel where a surely illegal exchange is going down. We then cut to an impressive action sequence that shows how his car came to be so riddled with bullet marks. As one might expect, the deal goes south. Fighting breaks out. Words are exchanged and things get ugly. The title card then fades up before we cut to a junkyard where Keanu Reeves shows up and gets in a pretty kickass one-liner. Nothing about his character is revealed really. Though, even the little bit we see is pretty perfect.
Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in Night City, California in, you guessed it, 2077. The world is broken. MegaCorps now run the world from the top of sky-scraping fortresses. In the city down below, the streets are controlled by drug-pushing gangs, tech hustlers, and illegal braindance slingers. The in-between is where decadence, sex and pop culture mix with violent crime, extreme poverty and the unattainable promise of the American Dream. Players go on this journey as V, a hired gun who just scored their first major contract.
This adds yet another brick in the mighty fine wall that is 2019 for Keanu Reeves. He not only stars in John Wick 3: Parabellum, which has been doing very well at the box office and has already paved the way for John Wick 4, but he’s also set to star in Toy Story 4 later this month. Not to mention his much-discussed role in Netflix’s rom-com Always Be My Maybe, and now this. Everything ‘s coming up Reeves right now.
Cyberpunk 2077 is, pretty surprisingly, adapted from a 1988 pen-and-paper RPG titled Cyberpunk 2020. The game will be available on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Sorry, Nintendo Switch people Be sure to check out the new trailer from the official Cyberpunk 2077 YouTube channel below.
‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Trailer: Keanu Reeves Saves Video Games
Posted on Monday, June 10th, 2019 by Hoai-Tran Bui
This is Keanu Reeves‘ world and we’re all just living in it. On top of the smash box office success of the sublime John Wick: Chapter 3, an all-time great cameo in the Netflix rom-com Always Be My Maybe, a scene-stealing role in the upcoming Toy Story 4, and being the subject of yet another wholesome meme, Keanu Reeves has already won 2019. But even now, Reeves won’t slow down, pulling out yet another show-stopping appearance in the highly anticipated CD Projekt Red video game Cyberpunk 2077. Watch the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer to hear Keanu Reeves berate you in his gruff, chocolate-y voice.
Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer
If Cyberpunk 2077 wasn’t already one of the most anticipated video games out there since its reveal at last year’s E3, it certainly shot up to the top of most people’s radars after Keanu Reeves’ immaculately rendered visage plastered Twitter’s timeline all of Sunday evening.
The internet’s favorite dog lover/lonely boy stole XBox’s E3 press conference with an unexpected cameo for one of the most anticipated upcoming games — both in the game and onstage. After appearing for a split second at the end of the cinematic trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Project Red’s AAA adaptation of the fan-favorite tabletop RPG, Reeves took to the stage to call the game and the audience “breathtaking.” The cinematic trailer certainly lives up to that descriptor, with four minutes worth of violent shootouts, brutal brawls, and cyberpunk lingo out the wazoo. But most importantly, you get to hear Keanu shout at you to “wake the fuck up” because “we have a city to burn.” Yes, berate us more, Keanu.
It’s unclear what Reeves’ role is in the video game, with fans theorizing that he could be any seminal characters in Cyberpunk‘s lore, including the rocker hero Johnny Silverhand. But the most importantly question is: now that Keanu Reeves is a video game character, does that mean we could someday play as him in Super Smash Bros.?
Cyberpunk 2077 will hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on April 16, 2020.
Johnny Silverhand’s tragic rock star backstory makes him perfect for Keanu Reeves
Keanu’s character in Cyberpunk 2077 is a famous face in the game’s setting. Here’s why.
CD Projekt Red don’t often go in for celebrity voice actors. They did cast Charles Dance as the Nilfgaardian Emperor Emhyr var Emreis in The Witcher 3, and he brought the same regal menace to the role he brought to Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones. Casting Keanu Reeves as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 achieves something similar. Silverhand is a beloved figure who inspires adoration—during the glimpse of the character creation screen we saw during the demo, he was listed among the childhood heroes you can choose.
That rapturous reaction Keanu got when he walked out on stage at E3? You’re breathtaking? That’s how people in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 would react to Johnny Silverhand.
The other options for your childhood hero are also from the tabletop game: Morgan Blackhand and Saburo Arasaka.
So who is he? Johnny Silverhand goes all the way back to the first printing of the Cyberpunk rulebook from 1988, where he appears as a central character in a short story and introductory adventure called Never Fade Away. His backstory is that he was a soldier in the Second Central American Conflict—you can see the dog tags from those days around Keanu’s neck in the trailer—a war in which the US experimented on its own troops with combat drugs and risky cybernetics. Johnny deserted, set himself up with a new identity, and moved to Night City.
There he started a band called Samurai with a fellow ex-soldier named Kerry Eurodyne. After a couple years playing Night City’s bars and clubs they were signed by Universal, and when their single Blistering Love went to number one on “EuroRadio,” they suddenly became one of the biggest bands in the world. Samurai still have fans in 2077, as the jacket V wears has their logo on it, some 69 years after they broke up in 2008.
In the tabletop game Rockers are one of the roles players can choose, like classes in D&D. They’re charismatic rebels who use their music to inspire political change, even revolutions. Johnny’s music became explicitly political after Samurai’s break-up, when a rival label unearthed the truth of his desertion and tried to blackmail him into signing with them. Instead he went public, owning up to his past and releasing a solo album called SINS of Your Brothers about his experiences as a soldier. It forced the government to own up to its wartime atrocities, and made him even more famous.
An ad for one of Johnny’s albums, available at “video, CD and chipware outlets”.
In 2012 Johnny’s girlfriend, a netrunner named Alt Cunningham, was kidnapped by the Arasaka Corporation. She’d developed a program called Soulkiller, a way of digitizing people’s minds and even transferring them between bodies, as proprietary work for another corporation. Arasaka wanted her to recreate a new version of Soulkiller just for them.
Johnny put together a team of Edgerunners, the cyberpunks of Cyberpunk 2020, to rescue Alt. As a distraction he got his bandmates together and put on a free concert in the park directly across from Arasaka’s office building. When he led the crowd across the street toward the building a twitchy guard opened fire, resulting in a riot. During the chaos Johnny and his team fought their way through the building, only to find Alt’s body, which he carried away.
Unbeknownst to him, Alt had uploaded herself into the building’s computers using Soulkiller, and was in the middle of turning those defenses against her captors, after which she planned to return to her body and escape. The tragic twist: Johnny’s interference left her trapped in the mainframe, a ghost in the machine. (Reeves’ modern-day popular persona is so tied up in the ‘sad Keanu’ meme and his own personal tragedies, it’s hard not to see some symmetry here, too.)
Alt Cunningham, another of the original game’s iconic characters.
Johnny showed up again in the final book for the Cyberpunk 2020 line, which was set in 2024 during the Fourth Corporate War. Johnny was out for revenge against Arasaka, having learned that Alt survived as an AI in their possession and was being forced to develop Soulkiller v3.0 for them. Once again Johnny led a team of Edgerunners into Arasaka territory, but was pinned down by their security forces, led by a cyborg named Adam Smasher.
Johnny threw himself at them as a distraction, allowing his team’s netrunner, Spider Murphy, time to rescue Alt and send her out into the Net. Smasher shot Johnny with an autoshotgun, tearing him in half. Then, to cement the fact he was definitely dead, a nuclear weapon was detonated in the building, reducing it and a portion of Night City around it to radioactive rubble (something the city may still be dealing with in Cyberpunk 2077).
Obviously Johnny’s back by the time of the videogame, decades later. But as they trailer showed he’s not entirely real. He’s a digitization living on a chip in V’s head. Which presents an intriguing possibility—here’s how the Cyberpunk 2020 rulebook described Alt’s Soulkiller program:
“The original Soulkiller started as a matrix to contain artificial personalities. She’d studied the concept, worked out the parameters for creating a storage matrix. She’d been fascinated and awed to discover the same matrix could contain living engrams; transfer them from computer to body and even back again. It was immortality.”
Presumably Johnny was uploaded using Soulkiller at some point before his meat body took a dirt nap, explaining how he’s still around in 2077. Alt is probably still out there somewhere, too. And if Johnny’s managed to survive as a digital ghost on a brain chip holding the secret to digital immortality, that sounds like a perfect excuse to have everybody in Night City gunning for it—and you.
E3 2019 | Keanu Reeves Cyberpunk 2077 cameo revealed in new trailer
A Keanu Reeves Cyberpunk 2077 cameo was revealed today during E3 2019. During the Microsoft E3 2019 press conference, it was revealed that Keanu Reeves will be a playable character in the Cyberpunk 2077, which will be releasing next year. The latest game by CD Projekt Red has been highly anticipated since it was shown at E3 last year. During E3 2019, Keanu Reeves took the stage to share some information about Cyberpunk 2077 with Xbox fans.
Alongside a brand new gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, Keanu Reeves also shared with fans that Cyberpunk 2077 would be releasing on April 16, 2020. It seems that the finishing touches are being put on Cyberpunk 2077 with the release coming early next year. This was one of the biggest questions that fans had for E3 2019, so it is a big relief to get an official release date.
It is unclear exactly what Keanu Reeves role will be in Cyberpunk 2077, but it seems that he will be one of the game’s main or side characters. According to Reeves, he is thrilled to be a part of such an awesome game. However, fans still have a bit of a wait before they can get their hands on Cyberpunk 2077, as the game will be released next year.
Keanu was met with a raucous reception from the crowd at E3 as he took the stage, with the John Wick 3 actor stepping into familiar territory by way of discussing Cyberpunk 2077‘s criminal underworld. The action star was given a hero’s welcome, with fans thrilled to see The Matrix star at the LA Convention Center. He went on to talk about how excited he was to be apart of a great game, so it should be interesting to see what his role is in the game.

What’s the Role Of Keanu Reeves In Cyberpunk 2077?
One of the highlights of this E3 and arguably the most powerful celebrity cameo in video game history was the confirmation of Keanu Reeves in Cyberpunk 2077. His appearance has obviously given rise to a lot of questions, most important one being regarding his role within the game itself.
A tweet from SkillUp supposedly claims to know what exactly Keanu Reeves will be doing in Cyberpunk 2077:
The big news I can now share about #cyberpunk is that Keanu isn’t some random cameo. He’s your side kick for the ENTIRE game.
And he lives inside your head.
CD Projekt Red too has discussed the role of Keanu in the game in multiple interview and has emphasized the importance of the game throughout the main story. Now if you aren’t very familiar with the lore of Cyberpunk itself, Mr. Reeves is portraying Johnny Silverhand. Johnny was a rockstar and a rebel who died in the original events of the board game before 2077.
This is the giveaway that suggests that he’s not actually physically present in the trailer. This is further reinforced by the visual flicker he has when standing over the player character. Now that could also be a glitch in the protagonist’s cybernetics but it also means Silverhand’s just in your head.
Johnny Silverhand isn’t a fan service cameo, he is, in fact, one of the main parts of the game itself. This is because he lives inside a chip in the player’s head similar to Cortana in the Halo series. Just way more badass.
Does this mean he’ll support everything you do as your AI companion? Or will he be the player’s moral compass? These are the questions only the game’s release will answer.
The Cyberpunk 2077 release date is set for May next year but the hype that Mr. Reeves has now brought, it has made the wait really damn difficult. Keanu might not be playable in the original game however, once Cyberpunk 2077 mod support arrives, we definitely would definitely want a mode where Keanu Reeves will be playable.
The Cyberpunk 2077 E3 showcase didn’t confirm any sort of Cyberpunk 2077 playable demo. The trailer itself was cinematic with no showcase of a demo either at the conference or available online at a later time. Pre-orders were opened up alongside the Cyberpunk 2077 collector’s edition reveal but that’s about it.
Back to the topic, I’m estimating that our interaction with Mr. Reeves aka Johnny Silverhand will be similar to how the Joker functioned in Arkham Knight. Except this time, I’m hoping the mirage actually helps us. It would also be interesting if the interaction was like Fight Club.
