Cyberpunk 2077: Hefty and Inappropriate For Nintendo Switch

The head of CD Projekt Red’s Krakow studio sat down for an interview with OnMSFT, in which he was asked if the studio has any plans to bring their latest project to Nintendo Switch.

With each and every one of them handcrafted from the ground up, it sounds like Street Stories will be one more way for you to engage with Cyberpunk 2077 – mixing the main story up with side activities and interesting distractions. I think there’s around 75 sStreet Stories. Whereas the newest Witcher sport exclusively had “two or three folks” engaged on these parts, Cyberpunk 2077 apparently has “15 folks doing these open-world quests”. “They are a technique to discover the world and improve your character”.

He also stated that there are 15 people developing quests for the open-world feature of the game. “It should feel really good”. While numerous games released on the market include side quests, you can typically expect the typical on-demand quests such as finding an area and picking up an item.

Mamais said there are multiple layers to Cyberpunk’s open-world design.

Then Mamais uttered the sentence Switch owners everywhere will undoubtedly seize on in the days to come. I would imagine it to be the toughest test yet when it comes to Switch ports, but I know there’s teams out there who would love to take on the challenge!

According to an attendee of the developer’s annual community event in Poland, CDPR said Cyberpunk 2077’s side quests will be more complex than those in its previous title.

Although the game is not as long or perhaps, as big as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, the sheer content available appears to be already staggering.

Since the developers were able to work their magic once, fans are hopeful they would be able to do it again and get Cyberpunk on the underpowered device. This won’t be the case with Cyberpunk 2077, since each quest has its own story and it can sometimes be quite lengthy. “I want I might say extra”. “There are some fantastic interactions of not just the levels but the characters that you meet”.

Opinion Game Dev Hype Interview: CD PROJEKT Red John Mamais talks Cyberpunk 2077 creation, VR, DLC, Nintendo Switch, and more.

Interview: CD PROJEKT Red’s John Mamais talks Cyberpunk 2077’s creation, VR, DLC, Nintendo Switch, and more

I recently sat down with CD PROJEKT Red’s John Mamais to talk about the studio’s highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 video game which is due out later this year on Xbox One, PC, and PS4.

We talked about the creation of the futuristic world in which the game is set, cyberpunk inspirations, possible third-person perspectives, immersive sound design, censorship issues in Australia, and the potential (or lack thereof) for a Cyberpunk 2077 release on Nintendo Switch and a VR version.

Any plans for Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch?

Not as far as I know. Not yet. I don’t know if Cyberpunk 2077 would work on the Nintendo Switch. It might be too heavy for it. But then, we did put Witcher 3 on it and we thought that would be too heavy too but somehow we pulled it off.

One of the first thoughts I had after seeing the initial E3 presentation was how much Cyberpunk 2077 looks like it would be suited for VR. Have you guys thought about bringing the game to VR platforms in the future?

We tried. We were thinking about VR but, yeah, we’re not doing anything with VR. We got the VR dev kits but…

Some things would work in VR but, I think, it’s not really viable yet. You’re not making a lot of money in VR yet. It’s very experimental and niche, yeah. I would like to. I like VR but we’re not doing anything with it yet.

Cyberpunk 2077 will run in 4K Ultra HD when played on an Xbox One X console. Has there been any discussion about improvements for when the game’s played on the upcoming Xbox Series X?

Most AAA developers have that stuff [Xbox Series X dev tools] but we’re not focusing on that yet. We’re focusing on current gen.

Cyberpunk 2077 has had a heavy association with Microsoft and Xbox since its proper reveal at E3. How has it been for CD PROJEKT Red collaborating with Microsoft?

We’ve had a long relationship with Microsoft. We had the Witcher 3 announcement at E3 at the Microsoft conference, so I think, given that existing relationship, it’s been easier for us to move forward with those guys.

After Witcher 3, we got more famous in a way. More reputable as a game developer. People knew who we were so it was easier for us to work with Microsoft who helped us establish certain conditions for how we would present the game at these conferences.

CD Projekt RED’in Krakow Ofisi başkanı John Mamais’a yaptığı bir röportajda, Cyberpunk 2077’nin Nintendo Switch desteği alıp almayacağı soruldu. Mamais, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’ın konsola yeni geldiğini ve bir sonraki oyunların gelip gelmeyeceğini sormanın doğal olduğunu belirtti. Mamais, “The Witcher 3’ün Switch ile uyumlu olabileceğini kim bilebilirdi?

Probablemente no”, expresó John Mamais.

Cyberpunk 2077 delayed because of current gen consoles, new source claims

According to a Polish insider Borys Niespielak, the main reason for Cyberpunk 2077 delay lies in current-gen consoles, which are reportedly not powerful enough to run the game properly.

Last week, CD Projekt Red officially delayed their highly-anticipated RPG Cyberpunk 2077 to September 2020. The studio explained that the game is finished and playable but they still need more time to squash bugs and fix many glitches that are present in the current build.

This is probably one of the reasons why CD Projekt Red decided to delay the game but according to Polish insider Borys Niespielak, current generation consoles are actually the main problem for the developers.

Speaking in a podcast, which you can watch below, Niespielak says that the original Xbox One console is not powerful enough to run the game properly and apparently, Cyberpunk 2077 performance on the console is “extremely unsatisfactory”.

Borys’ sources confirmed that if “this problem with Xbox has not been solved by January 2020, the release date must be postponed.”

Now, we would suggest that you take these rumours with a grain of salt, just like any other unofficial info but it would not be the first time that consoles have caused problems to CD Projekt Red. You may remember that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt received a pretty noticeable downgrade close to its release, and apparently, the reason for that was entirely due to consoles.

As for the source, over at Discord, Polish players are pretty confident in Borys Niespielak, who seems to be as renowned as Jason Schreier in Poland. Discord user Klawiaturodzierzca even translated the best bits from the podcast and you can check them out in the screenshot below:

Information from the podcast, translated by Discord user Klawiaturodzierzca

All in all, this is some pretty big news if true and we can only hope that CD Projekt Red will find a way to properly optimise Cyberpunk 2077 without any downgrades. Surely they cannot let it happen to them again, not after The Witcher 3 backlash anyway.

Cyberpunk 2077 Nintendo Switch: Will Cyberpunk 2077 be on Switch?

By Nathan Fusco | Feb 10 2020

Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch is a long shot, but CD Projekt Red hasn’t completely shut down the idea. CD Projekt Red Producer, John MamaisВ spoke with Brad Stephenson of Onmsft about many topics surrounding Cyberpunk 2077.

While the majority of the interview focused on the delay of Cyberpunk 2077, there was one question on whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 would be ported to Nintendo Switch.

Cyberpunk 2077 Nintendo Switch?

When asked about Cyberpunk 2077 on the Nintendo Switch, John Mamais gave an open-ended answer, “Not as far as I know. Not yet. I don’t know if Cyberpunk 2077 would work on theВ Nintendo Switch. It might be too heavy for it. But then, we did put Witcher 3 on it and we thought that would be too heavy too but somehow we pulled it off.”

While it seems CD Projekt Red isn’t working on a port, it could still be possible down the road. Witcher 3 was never meant for the Nintendo Switch, and many thought it impossible with the total size of the Witcher game. That was eventually proven wrong, and we could see Cyberpunk 2077 make it to our favorite portable device.

Cyberpunk 2077 Switch

According to CD Projekt Red studio head John Mamais, a Switch port of Cyberpunk 2077 is possible but unlikely.

Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements

CD Projekt Red has yet to release system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, but fans can expect them to be demanding — the developer has a track record of beautiful but resource-intensive games, and Cyberpunk seems likely to continue the trend.

Doch was sagt CD Projekt Red dazu?

John Mamais sagt dazu folgendes:

I often live in places where the only internet connectivity I have comes from tethering to my smartphone (just like I’m doing right now). So, online multiplayer games don’t hold a whole lotta joy for me. Thank God that among the announcement for Fallout 76, and the fact that Fortnite is coming to the Nintendo Switch and other broadband gaming delights, CD Projekt Red finally gave us a proper gameplay trailer for their upcoming near future RPG opus Cyberpunk 2077. It’s single player, RPG and played in the first-person: everything that I need to keep me happy. If the game plays anywhere as well as Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, I will be a very happy lad.

“God of War” Chief On “Cyberpunk 2077” Delay

One of the biggest bits of news in the game industry so far this year has been developer CD Projekt Red delay of the highly anticipated “Cyberpunk 2077” by several months, pushing back the long in development title from April to September this year.

That push sparked an online backlash and obvious questions about the game and its ability to work on the current console generation or if it should even try and just wait until the next generation hits later this year. The company meanwhile stands by its statement that the game simply needs polish and bug fixing.

Now, “God of War” game director Cory Barlog has come to the defense of CD Projekt Red, saying on Twitter: “EVERY game runs badly until you optimize for the hardware in the final push before gold” in response to an article blaming the delay on making the game work on PS4 & Xbox One.

When someone suggests that they should simply skip the current console generation, he responded:

“I have no clue what they plan to or even should do, but I can say that a choice like that may sound simple but it has vast multi-year implications for development. It’s not flipping a switch. I hope they just take their time and release their game when they feel it’s done.

GAMES ARE VERY UGLY, FOR A LONG TIME, UNTIL THEY ARE NOT. Traditionally, that is right near the end. This is due to the absolutely f–king bananas level of complexity and moving pieces required to make really any game today. We are, more often than not, going on passion and belief that the vision of this buggy + duct-taped together ‘thing’ is going to come together in the end.

To me there is NOTHING shameful or nefarious about the game not running well in development. We ALL obviously want to release the smoothest/most bug-free experience humanly possible. Sometimes we (mostly) succeed. Sometimes we don’t. But it is NEVER because we did not try.”

The game industry is famous for being plagued by unhealthy “crunch practices” with employees forced to work insane hours to make sure a game is finished and ready for market.

Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Clarifies Details About the Delay

January 28, 2020 3:53 PM EST

Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t an isolated case, but in the season of delays, one developer took to the official CD Projekt Red forums to clarify a few things.

We were worried about getting enough time to finish all of the games that were due to launch across March and April. That wasn’t that long ago. Since then, Cyberpunk 2077 joined the list of AAA titles being pushed back to a later release date. Unlike Final Fantasy VII Remake, which was only delayed by a month, Cyberpunk 2077 has moved from April to September. This lengthier than expected delay has, of course, got the rumour mill fired up. This hasn’t been helped by official sources saying that despite the delay, the team will still be expected to crunch ”to some degree.” Reassurances that the game will be worth the wait are all well and good but when there’s a hot take to make, the internet delivers.

Claims that the game ran poorly on current generation hardware began to circulate almost immediately, as well as some more nefarious rumours. This was picked up by a number of websites and caught the attention of Cory Barlog, Creative Director at SIE Santa Monica Studio, known for his work on the God of War series. In a multi-tweet thread about delays caused by optimization, he said: “EVERY game runs badly until you optimize for the hardware in the final push before gold. GAMES ARE VERY UGLY, FOR A LONG TIME, UNTIL THEY ARE NOT. Traditionally, that is right near the end. This is due to the absolutely fucking bananas level of complexity and moving pieces required to make any game today.”

To me there is NOTHING shameful or nefarious about the game not running well in development.

We ALL obviously want to release the smoothest/most bug free experience humanly possible.

Sometimes we (mostly) succeed. Sometimes we don’t.

But it is NEVER because we did not try.❤️

After the positive response from fellow developers within the industry, it was only a matter of time before someone from within the Cyberpunk 2077 development team spoke out. Philipp Weber, a Senior Quest Designer at CD Projekt Red, took to the official forum to give his take on the delay. This was picked up and shared by Reddit user RavixCuatrocuernos.

Weber’s statement, where he specifically mentions the Xbox One but keeps it vague in regards to the model of PlayStation (which might have been an oversight), could be interpreted as meaning that getting next-gen ready could have been a factor in the delay. Without reading too far into it and picking apart every word, it seems optimization and general bugs are to blame for the delay.

It may be less apocalyptic than we all thought, but was delaying the game the right call? Are you still looking forward to finally getting your hands on it when it launches on September 17th? Will you be picking up the very expensive Collector’s Edition (I wish I was)?

Still haven’t got your full fix of Cyberpunk 2077 content? Make sure to check out the stealthily taken snaps of the Cyberpunk 2077 figures by Mcfarlane Toys, shown off at Toy Fair London last week, below!

Cyberpunk 2077 is in its final stage of development

CD Projekt Red has commented in a financial meeting that it will not be long before they finish the development of Cyberpunk 2077

Several years. CD Projekt Red has been working on its own ambitious Blade Runner-style project. Using the Cyberpunk brand, they set a goal of creating a western role-playing game based on the future. They worked and worked, as the world talked about The Witcher, until they decided they could reveal their developing creation. It seemed so far from launching, so far from existing. However, CDPR has commented that Cyberpunk 2077 is entering the last stage of its development. Not much missing.

In its latest financial document, CD Projekt Red has reported on various of its expenses and income. Something that stands out is that this last quarter has been the most successful in the history of the company. They have never reported as much income and profit as they have this year. This is one of the reasons why CDPR has managed to overtake Ubisoft to become the largest video game developer in Europe. The important thing about this document is that, in several places, it is mentioned that Cyberpunk 2077 is already finishing its development.

For example, page 9 contains information on your spending for the previous quarter, and it mentions that “This [cost] increase is primarily due to the continued development of Cyberpunk 2077, which has entered the intense final phase prior to launch.” This is repeated on page 35, which also highlights that Cyberpunk is in its “last phase of development.” Somewhat worrying is that CD Projekt Red has been repeatedly accused of labor exploitation. Hopefully the workers don’t have to suffer as much as they did with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Cyberpunk 2077 will launch on September 17 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
