WTF is ray tracing?

Ray tracing might sound like the name of a renegade cop who gets results, but it’s been one of the big buzz terms of E3 2019.

With a new generation of consoles on the horizon and more details emerging around both the next PlayStation and Microsoft’s Project Scarlett, it’s inevitable that talk would turn to just how much better the graphics would be from the new machines. And while some will focus on their 8K capabilities, it’s a process called ray tracing that’ll arguably have the most noticeable impact.

But what exactly is this eye-catching graphics tech all about? And do you really need to wait until the end of next year to get a taste of it?

What exactly is ray tracing?

Ray tracing is a way for games to recreate lighting that looks much more realistic than ever before because it simulates the way light travels in real life.

The process generates an image by tracing a path of light (hence the name) from an imaginary eye to every surface or object in the scene. An algorithm then works out how visible light would behave when it hits each one, based on what they’re made of and how many light sources there are available. Reflective surfaces will bounce varying amounts of light onto other objects around them, while anything blocking the path of the light will create dynamic shadows.

This process allows for far more realistic-looking scenes, like the one from Cyberpunk 2077 above, but it’s not just for the sake of eye candy. Sure, you’d have to really be paying attention, but think about how reflections and changes in lighting could give away an opponent sneaking up on you in an FPS.

Which games support ray tracing?

Some of E3’s biggest titles will use ray tracing, including Cyberpunk 2077, Watch Dogs: Legion, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Control, but only in their PC versions to begin with. The tech will also be found in indie titles such as Stay in the Light (which is already available on Steam in Early Access form), Enlisted, Justice, and Atomic Heart.

But it’s not just for new games either. Battlefield V, Shadow of the Tomb Raider (below), and Metro Exodus already support it, while Assetto Corsa Competizione is on the waiting list to get an update. Even Quake II (above) has been remastered with the ray tracing treatment and it’s quite amazing how big an impact it has on the look of a game that came out in 1997. The character models still look pretty retro but the environments could have come from a game far younger than Quake’s 22 years.

How do I get it?

Ray tracing requires much more computing power than has traditionally been available to mere mortals, which is why it’s previously been the preserve of Hollywood’s CGI and visual effects departments. But that’s all about to change.

Right now, you’ll need a PC with an Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics card to get the best ray tracing performance, although there’s also a patch that enables it on GTX cards. Turning it on will have an impact on the frame rate your games can run at, so it’s worth having as much power at your disposal as possible.

If you think a teraflop is something a dinosaur does in a swimming pool, you’ll probably want to wait until consoles are powerful enough to deal with ray tracing. The good news is that shouldn’t be too far away. Both Microsoft’s Project Scarlett (or whatever they end up calling it) and Sony’s PS5 (ditto) will support the tech and both are expected to be released before the end of 2020.

NVIDIA RTX Ray Tracing

NVIDIA RTX platform includes a ray tracing technology that brings real-time, cinematic-quality rendering to content creators and game developers. Developers can access NVIDIA RTX ray tracing through the NVIDIA OptiX application programming interface, through Microsoft’s DirectX Raytracing API (DXR) and Vulkan, the new generation, cross-platform graphics standard from Khronos Group.

What is ray tracing?

Conventional 3D rendering has used a process called rasterization since the 1990’s. Rasterization uses objects created from a mesh of triangles or polygons to represent a 3D model of an object. The rendering pipeline then converts each triangle of the 3D models into pixels on a 2D screen. These pixels may then be further processed or “shaded” before final display on the screen.

Ray tracing, which has long been used for non-real-time rendering, provides realistic lighting by simulating the physical behavior of light. Ray tracing calculates the color of pixels by tracing the path that light would take if it were to travel from the eye of the viewer through the virtual 3D scene. As it traverses the scene, the light may reflect from one object to another (causing reflections), be blocked by objects (causing shadows), or pass through transparent or semi-transparent objects (causing refractions). All of these interactions are combined to produce the final color of a pixel that then displayed on the screen.

While ray tracing has long been “the future” or holy grail of computer rendering, we are now seeing the advent of consumer GPUs which have enough compute capability to do interesting ray tracing workloads in real-time. It is expected that many use cases will employ hybrid renderers which combine rasterization and ray tracing, so tight integration with an existing rendering API is very important. For more information on this topic please see our blog on the left.

RTX platform ray tracing APIs

10 years ago OptiX introduced the programmable shader model for ray tracing (OptiX GPU Ray Tracing ACM paper). NVIDIA has continued to invest in hardware, software and algorithms to accelerate that programming model on our GPUs.

The OptiX API is an application framework that leverages RTX Technology to achieve optimal ray tracing performance on the GPU. It provides a simple, recursive, and flexible pipeline for accelerating ray tracing algorithms. Additionally the post processing API includes an AI-accelerated denoiser, which also leverages RTX Technology. The post processing API can be used independently from the ray tracing portion of the pipeline.

Cyberpunk 2077: System Requirements, Recommended Specs And PC Setup

We’re roughly 6 months away from returning to Night City – but is your setup ready for it?

Despite the ridiculous number of delays and postponements last week, Cyberpunk 2077 is moving into the latter stages of development.

CD Projekt Red has yet to release the game’s system specifications or requirements.

For this reason, we actually cannot say whether or not your PC has the necessary requirements for Mike Pondsmith’s dystopian RPG.

Rather, we will cover the recommended specifications based on predictions and speculate the optimal hardware you’ll need to power your PC for Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements

Here are the recommended system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077, based on predictions:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz / AMD Ryzen R5 1600
  • RAM: 16 GB RAM
  • HDD: 70 GB of space
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 64 8GB or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
  • OS: Win 10 64
  • Direct X: Version 11
  • Screen Resolution: 1080p

Optimal Hardware

The specifications of the PC that showcased the Cyberpunk 2077 demo at E3 2018 were pretty powerful, but don’t actually represent a top-end machine, especially now that it has been nearly 2 years since the showcase.

Naturally, at the showcase, CD Projekt Red wanted Cyberpunk 2077 to look as good as possible for the occasion, so the specifications represented the optimal build for the game.

Therefore the recommended specifications will gravitate somewhere below them.

An educated guess would be to reach 1080p with a stable frame rate above 60 FPS – quite the build.

Final Thoughts

Cyberpunk 2077 will offer an awful lot, especially with its new concept, artwork and insanely realistic graphics.

We can already tell that the game will be a blast to play, and we hope that hardware requirements will not get in the way of that.

Of course, the average gamer does not own an Intel Core i7 8700K processor and a GTX 1080Ti, but the shame is that gamers using older generations of hardware might be left isolated and unable to run the game.

This is, of course, all speculation – and as such, it should all be taken with a sizeable pinch of salt.

Cyberpunk 2077 Requirement for PC (Minimum & Recommended)

Cyberpunk 2077 will come out soon in September since this game also releases on PC you should know Cyberpunk 2077 requirement. You know, it’s important to make sure your PC can run this game properly before decided to buy it.

Cyberpunk 2077 developed by the same company that made The Witcher series, CD Project Red. So it’s likely this game will need quite a fancy PC to run the game smoothly, just like how it goes with the previous Witcher game.

But before talking about Cyberpunk 2077 minimum spec requirements, let’s talk a bit about Cyberpunk 2077 review based on the trailer they’ve released.

Cyberpunk 2077 Review

We know that Cyberpunk 2077 release date is on September 17th, 2020. So we can’t give a verdict yet either this game is good or not. But based on all the trailer they’ve released, we confident that Cyberpunk 2077 will bring fresh air to gaming industries.

From the latest gameplay reveal we can see that this game has an FPS gameplay in most conditions other than while riding a vehicle. Since it’s an FPS game, there’ll be a lot of shooting, murdering, exploding, and destruction.

But that’s not the only way to play Cyberpunk 2077. You could also play with stealth style, killing as less as possible, or even not kill anyone. Since you can make a character you want to be, you can also choose how you want to play.

Cyberpunk 2077 Main Spec Requirements

As been said before, Cyberpunk 2077 will be quite a heavy game comparing to the other same-gen game. To make sure your PC render smoothly, you’ll need AMD Radeon R9 380 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB just for the low setting.

Processor

Just like The Witcher series, this game also an open-world game. So your PC’s CPU needs to render the map as soon as possible. Something like Intel Core 15 0 4760K 3.4GHz will do quite well. But to play in a higher setting, you need something fancier.

And last but not least, you’ll also need a high gig of RAM. Maybe 8GB RAM can do for a low setting. But to get a higher quality graphic, you’ll need 16GB or more in order to run this game without crashing.

Cyberpunk 2077 Minimum Spec

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit or Windows 10 64-Bit
  • VGA: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 2GB or AMD Radeon R9 380
  • VRAM: 2GB
  • Memory: 8GB RAM
  • CPU: AMD FX-8320 / Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz
  • Storage: About 70GB Space
  • DirectX: DirectX 11 Compatible Graphics Card

Cyberpunk 2077 Recommended System Requirement

  • OS: Windows 10 64-Bit

Cyberpunk 2077’s Rumored System Requirements Have Shocked Everyone !

Alright, so these days Cyberpunk 2077 has created a hype among the gamers and the fans are already excited about the launch of the said video game. We all are excited. And the trailers of the game and short clips are also making us feel the adrenaline rushing in our bodies what the game will feature.

And the appearance of Keanu Reeves aka John Wick in one of the trailers of the game have made us extremely excited about Cyberpunk 2077 game and we can not wait to see the game launch as soon as possible. Obviously, with all that hype and bells and whistles, we are expecting the game to be a kind of “blockbuster” of this year.

But obviously, a recent outbreak of system requirements of Cyberpunk 2077 has shocked us all. It seems to be a rumour. And most budget gamers have lost their hopes after learning the SKY HIGH system requirements of Cyberpunk 2077. The game seems to be one of the most demanding games which can be played optimally on most upgraded gaming systems out there.

Okay, so here is what game debate says about Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements

We expect the system specs to be sky high for Cyberpunk 2077. Utilising an adapted Witcher 3’s, Red Engine 3 graphics engine, the recommended requirements will likely include an Intel i7 CPU or top end AMD Zen processor. The GPU needed to achieve reliable frame rates at 1080p screen resolution for Cyberpunk 2077 will be around the GTX 980 mark or a top end AMD Radeon. Bare in mind it will release in a few years time. 16GB system memory will also be the normal recommended requirement for Cyberpunk. with 8GB RAM being a minimum.”

Honestly speaking, we kind of feel a bit skeptical if some low end PCs or systems might even run the game on least possible settings. Not playing on Ultra or even high graphics settings, but normal settings will suffice. And running the game on lowest settings will obviously ruin the point of playing Cyberpunk 2077.

Here are the Cyberpunk 2077 System Requirements (Minimum)

  • CPU: Intel i7-8700K @ 3.70 GHz
  • CPU SPEED: Info
  • RAM: 16 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • VIDEO CARD: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  • PIXEL SHADER: 5.1
  • VERTEX SHADER: 5.1
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 4 GB

With that being said, gear up guys, if you want to play the game get your battle stations ready because one thing is for sure. If the game is that much hardware demanding, the game is sure fun to play.

One more thing, we are already seeing the glimpses of the game Cyberpunk 2077 and see how neat is the work done on graphics. Every detail has been chiseled to perfection. Every flicker, every spark, the skin tone, the shadows almost everything we see in the images and trailers say one thing, “the game Cyberpunk 2077 is an ultimate piece of graphics perfection”.

The Verdict

Since the game has so much to offer, new things, new concept and artworks. The graphics are insanely realistic and the game is sure going to get a fun to play, but with all those we think that the hardware requirement is too much high. Like most gamers do not certainly have an Intel Core i7 8700K processor and a GTX 1080Ti. With that being said, near predecessor processors and graphics cards might run the game somehow, but still the older generations might fail to run the game at all. So where most people have set their hopes high to see what this game is going to offer, most feel dejected.

But these specs might be rumors as well as nothing can be confirmed until the game is launched itself.

So let us wait and watch what happens. What hardware is necessary to play the game only can only be told for sure after the release of the game Cyberpunk 2077 itself. So stick to PGR for more updates.

Cyberpunk 2077 PC Cost – Can You Afford a Gaming Rig?

System requirements for AAA games were often a determinant of future purchases for many players. This was true for games like The Witcher 3 and GTA V. Will Cyberpunk 2077 do the same?

Cyberpunk 2077 – Recommended System Requirements

If you meet the recommended system requirements to run the game in full HD with highest level of details, the key question is – do you want to use ray tracing or not? Ray tracing technology can significantly improve graphics quality in games and we can be certain that CD Projekt RED will use its possibilities in 100%.

Of course, theoretically, to witness the magnificent ray tracing effects we need at least a GeForce GTX 1060 (6 GB). But with the maximum details and ray tracing enabled, we don’t have any chances to get at least 30 FPS. Therefore, in order to really enjoy the latest effects it is necessary to buy a graphics card from the RTX series.

Considering the promised optimization by CDPR and the fact that game is going to be played on PS4 and Xbox One as well, we should be able to play Cyberpunk 2077 in Full HD resolution and high detail settings on a rig with following specs:

PC specs for Cyberpunk 2077 on maximum details?

  1. Processor: Intel Core i5 4. Generation or AMD Ryzen 5 1600,
  2. RAM: 16 GB,
  3. Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX Vega 64.

If you want to add ray tracing, your configuration will have to be stronger:

PC specs for Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing ON?

  1. Processor: Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7,
  2. RAM: 16 GB,
  3. Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070.

There are lucky bastards (among us) who will be able to play Cyberpunk at the best possible visual settings – with active ray tracing and 4K resolution. But will they reach the magnificent 60 FPS? It’s rather a question for CD Projekt RED, cause I’m quite convinced that the strongest hardware components might be able to meet the requirements. Still, a question remains – is the game optimized well enough?

In order to get the best possible visuals, it will be necessary to have a specification similar to the one on which CD Projekt ran the game during E3 and other preview shows. The only difference is that the RTX Titan card can be easily exchanged for a much cheaper RTX 2080 or 2080 Ti. Also, don’t forget about RTX 2060 / 2070 / 2080 Super models. This configuration will not only cope with Cyberpunk, but should provide swift experience in all games at their maximum graphics settings for the next two or three years.

Cyberpunk 2077 requirements

Typically, a gaming company inflates its system requirements for a game before release. This has been the case in a lot of titles in the past that ran just fine on older hardware. However, Cyberpunk 2077 is gearing up to be an IMPRESSIVE title. A massive open world filled with people, vehicles, buildings, various little bits of detritus and debris that all has real physics and geometry, incredible lighting systems in an entire city.

Cyberpunk 2077 is definitely going to be extremely demanding. However, because it’s using an updated and modified RED Engine, similar to the engine used in Witcher 3, I believe that it will be very well optimized and run on a bevy of hardware.

Now, there have been some very bad rumors going around saying you’ll need an i7 and a 1080 ti to run the game. You should not believe these rumors, they were taken from the specs used to run the game at E3 last year for the demo. Cyberpunk 2077’s official system requirements have not been released to the public, yet.

You will definitely need a 64 Bit Copy of Windows 10 to support Direct X 12. As we do not yet know what API’s Cyberpunk 2077 will support, however it will have Ray Tracing, which requires DX12. (Though is only optional. The game may still support DX11.)

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K OR AMD FX-8320
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770/960 OR AMD R9 380x (4GB versions)/5500 XT
VRAM: 4GB
RAM: 8 GB RAM
Storage: 70 – 80 GB Hard drive space

These system requirements should allow you to play the game at 1080p with at least 30 – 60 fps on all low settings.

If you want to play on ultra settings at 1080p and maintain a constant 60 fps, you will need some serious horse power, I think. (But still not an i7 9900k and a 1080 ti.)

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670K OR AMD Ryzen R5 1600
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660ti/1070 OR AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT**
VRAM: 6GB
RAM: 16 GB RAM
Storage: 70 – 90 GB Hard drive space

**UPDATE: I have included the new RX 5xxx series GPUs as the recommended system requirements after watching benchmarks on them. At the time of this writing, only the 5700 XT existed. I firmly believe the 5600 and even the 5500 would be capable of playing Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p very easily.

Of course if you have anything in between these specs you will be fine in running the game. Maybe if you had a 1060, or a 480, or a 580, or something similar. You should not worry about running the game at 1080p.

Now, 1440p and 4k, those are completely different stories. I would not be surprised if a 1080 ti was required for 1440p 60fps on ultra settings. And an RX 2070 with Ray Tracing enabled.

Please share this thread with people who are concerned with their systems and running this game. You still have ten months to upgrade and build a new PC. I am confident that CD Projekt RED will deliver a well optimized, enjoyable experience.

These predicted system requirements come from years of PC Gaming, building PCs for myself, and other people, and playing and testing games on a vast number of systems and configurations.

Cyberpunk 2077 Key Requirements: All We Need To Know

The development of Cyberpunk 2077 is not yet finished, but thanks to the guys at Game-Debate we have an estimate of what will be the minimum and recommended requirements for playing in different resolutions.

It is important to remember that at the time CD Projekt RED said that Cyberpunk 2077 is being developed taking into account the technologies that are coming, and that it will be ready to take advantage of the hardware that the next-generation consoles, Xbox Scarlett and PS5 will have. In other words, we are facing what could be one of the first transition games to the new generation. More on Cdkeysforgames Cyberpunk 2077 .

The release date has not yet been confirmed, but it looks like it will not be until the end of 2019 or mid-2020. Both dates fit perfectly with a possible launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on both next-gen consoles, as they are also scheduled for sometime in 2020.

As far as gameplay is concerned, we have already seen in this article that the new CD Projekt RED has points of contact with The Witcher III, as it starts from the same open-world base with many secondary characters and a large number of missions, but also has very important differences that make it far from the well-known Geralt de Rivia franchise.

Without further ado, let’s go over the specifications we’ll need to move Cyberpunk 2077 on PC. Keep in mind that the requirements are an estimate and have not yet been confirmed, but they are credible and should not differ too much from the official ones.

Minimum requirements for Cyberpunk 2077

  • Windows 7 64-bit.
  • Core i5 2400 or FX 6350 processor.
  • 8 GB of RAM.
  • GTX 960 or Radeon R9 280.
  • 70 GB of free space.

With this configuration we should be able to move it in 1080p with medium-low quality and a minimum of 30 FPS.

Recommended requirements for Cyberpunk 2077

  • Windows 10 64-bit.
  • Core i7 6700K or Ryzen 5 1500X processor (four cores and eight threads).
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • GTX 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 56.
  • 70 GB of free space.

With this configuration we should be able to move it in 1080p with ultra quality and maintain 60 FPS, or in 1440p maintaining more than 30 FPS.

Recommended requirements for 4K

  • Windows 10 64-bit.
  • Core i7 6700K or Ryzen 5 1500X processor (four cores and eight threads).
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • GTX 1080 TI-RTX 2080 or Radeon VII.
  • 70 GB of free space.

This configuration should be enough to enjoy at least 30 stable 4K FPS at maximum quality.

Recommended requirements for enabling ray tracing

  • Windows 10 64-bit.
  • Core i7 6700K or Ryzen 5 1500X processor (four cores and eight threads).
  • 16 GB of RAM.
  • GeForce RTX 2070.
  • 70 GB of free space

With this configuration, we should be able to move it in 1080p with ultra quality and maintain a good level of fluidity.

What we know about the launch of ‘Cyberpunk 2077

With the support of two studies, an internal one opened in March 2018 and the collaboration of a Canadian study, by the beginning of 2019 the development had gone from the initial 50 workers to more than 400.

For now, they remain tight enough to say that ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ will be on display at the Los Angeles show, but will not be playable by attendees. It is expected, however, that additional footage will be shown in addition to the nearly 50 minutes of gameplay that was shown behind closed doors last year and posted on YouTube shortly thereafter.

The good sensations caused by that demo not only made it one of the main games of the different fairs where it was present, but it has also become one of the most awaited releases of the last years. In the shadow, the doubt about whether it will enter the plans and possibilities of the current generation or if it will be necessary to wait for the new one.

For now, it is confirmed for PC, PS4 and Xbox One at a date yet to be revealed. From CD Projekt Red assure that, like the end of the Throne Gamebooks, it will come when it is ready, and that they are in no hurry to accelerate the development. A maxim they embrace in an attempt to escape the accusations about crunch that are increasingly visible in the industry.

Can my computer run Cyberpunk 2077?

By Cliff Henjum June 17, 2019

Cyberpunk 2077 pretty much won E3 2019 with its full trailer and introduction of Keanu Reeves being an important character throughout the story, so now it’s got everybody asking “Will my PC be able to play Cyberpunk 2077?” At first glance, the game looks absolutely breathtaking, but so far we’ve only really seen cutscenes so it’s difficult to fully predict the end result of the graphics capabilities. CD Projekt Red gave the community a lot of information about the upcoming title, but the official system requirements are yet to be released.

Cyberpunk 2077 is being developed using the latest version (4) of REDengine which was also used for popular titles such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Although The Witcher 3 released in 2015, and Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t releasing until 2020, we can still use its system requirements as a basis for predicting the upcoming requirements for Cyberpunk 2077. While it’s a huge jump from the GeForce GTX 770 recommended GPU requirement, we believe that the minimum GPU for Cyberpunk might be somewhere closer to the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. This is a huge jump in GPU power, but with what we’ve seen from the E3 videos/trailers, it is plausible that players will need an epic computer to enjoy Cyberpunk 2077.

We will continue to update this page as the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 approaches. Stay tuned for up to date system requirement information.

Cyberpunk 2077: What the PC System Requirements Are

What the PC System Requirements Are for Cyberpunk 2077

With the release of a 48-minute gameplay video of CD Projekt Red’s next title, Cyberpunk 2077, fans across the world were finally able to get a glimpse at what the press has already seen at both this year’s E3 and Gamescom events. If you’ve seen the video, which you can watch here, you know it’s looking gorgeous and you know it’s going to take a beefy PC to run it if that’s your system of choice. Just how beefy though? Here’s what the PC System Requirements for Cyperpunk 2077 are.

While we don’t know the minimum and maximum system requirements for the game yet — that information is likely years away — we do know what the system specs of the PC used to run the game in the gameplay reveal video are and here they are:

  • CPU: Intel i7-8700K @ 3.7 GHz
  • Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix Z370-I GAMING
  • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V, 2x16GB, 3000MHz, CL15
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  • SSD: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB M.2 PCle
  • PSU: Corsair SF600 600W

Anyone who knows PC system requirements knows that these specs are beefy, but they aren’t quite as high-end as we would have guessed. Still though, the game isn’t out yet and likely won’t be for a while, so it’s definitely possible that these specs will change. It’s safe to assume that the specs listed above are the specs required to run the system at optimal performance. Naturally, that means that lesser specs can be used to run the game at lower speeds, graphic settings and more. It’s also likely that higher-end specs will be able to push this game to even higher settings if a player is using a higher-end machine. For now, this is all we have to go off of. We’ll be sure to update this guide with information regarding system minimums and maximums when the information is released.

That’s all you need to know about PC system requirements for Cyberpunk 2077. For more on the game in the run up to its release, be sure to search for Twinfinite.
