شركة NVIDIA تعمل جاهدة مع العديد من ستوديوهات تطوير الألعاب على دعم ألعابهم القادمة بأفضل تقنيّاتها وذلك لجلب أفضل تجربة بصريّة ممكنة وذلك من خلال العديد من الإضافات التي توفّرها تقنيّة تتبع الأشعّة Ray Tracing وآخر العناوين الكبيرة القادمة التي ستأتي بدعم لهذه التقنيّة هي لعبة Cyberpunk 2077.

إذ يعمل الاستوديو المطوّر للعبة CD PROJEKT RED مع شركة NVIDIA على دعم تتبع الأشعّة في الزمن الحقيقي ضمن اللعبة التي حازت على أكثر من 100 جائزة ضمن معرض الألعاب E3 2018 والتي تعتبر واحدة من أكثر الألعاب تشويقَا خاصّة أنّها تأتي من الأستوديو الذي أطلق اللعبة الرائعة The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt التي حازت على جائزة أفضل لعبة للسنة في وقت سابق.

وذكر Matt Wuebbling مدير التسويق في NVIDIA أن لعبة Cyberpunk 2077 طموحة للغاية وتجمع بين منظور الشخص الأوّل ولعب الأدوار بشكل عميق مع عالم معقّد يحكي قصّته، وأضاف أنّ هذا العالم سيسفيد يشكل كبير من الإضاءة الواقعيّة التي ستوفّرها تقنيّة تتبع الأشعّة Ray Tracing كما هو الحال مع لعبة Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

تعتبر تقنيّة تتبع الأشعة تقنيّة رسوميّات متطوّرة تستخدم للحصول على مؤثّرات بصريّة واقعيّة للغاية وذلك من خلال معالجة لحظيّة لهذه المؤثرات ضمن الألعاب عبر أنوية خاصّة ضمن البطاقات الرسوميّة Geforce RTX من NVIDIA .

وأشار Adam Badowski رئيس أستوديو CD PROJEKT RED أنّ تقنيّة تتبّع الأشعّة Ray tracing سمحت لهم بتمثيل السلوك الواقعيّ للإضاءة ضمن العالم المزدحم الذي تقوم عليه قصّة اللعبة، إذ تلعب الإضاءة في إضافة عمق من نوع آخر للمكان الذي تجري فيه أحداث القصّة.

تأتي لعبة Cyberpunk 2077 بقصّة مفامرات ضمن عالم مفتوح في مدينة تدعى Night CIty التي هي عبارة عن مدينة ضخمة مهووسة بالقوة والسحر وتعديل الجسم وسيكون دورك ضمن فرقة V الخارجة عن القانون التي تسعة لعمليّة فريدة ستكون عبارة عن مفتاح الخلود، وسيُسمح لك بتخصيص البرامج الإلكترونيّة لشخصيّتك ومهاراتها واستشكاف المدينة الواسعة.

Menjadi jawaban untuk membawa kualitas visualisasi video game ke tingkat yang baru, ray-tracing memang menjadi teknologi yang kini mulai diadaptasikan game-game terkini. Antisipasi juga kian meninggi setelah konfirmasi dua buah produsen konsol – Microsoft dan Sony sudah memastikan bahwa teknologi yang sama akan mereka usung di konsol generasi terbaru yang masih misterius hingga saat ini. Dengan kuantitas jumlah game yang mendukungnya, bekerja sama erat dengan NVIDIA yang terus mendorong RTX, konfirmasi ray-tracing untuk game action RPG yang sangat diantisipasi – Cyberpunk 2077 akhirnya meluncur.

Hal tersebut diumumkan oleh NVIDIA langsung dari blog post resmi mereka. NVIDIA mengaku sudah bekerjasama erat dengan CD Projekt Red untuk mengaplikasikan teknologi ray-tracing di Cyberpunk 2077 versi PC. Adam Badowski – Head of Studio CDPR menyebut bahwa ray-tracing akan membuat potret cahaya yang realistis kini dimungkinkan di setting urban super ramai Cyberpunk 2077. Sesuatu yang ia sebut memberikan kedalaman tersendiri pada dunia yang sudah mereka racik. Dengan dua screenshot perdana untuk memperlihatkan implementasi tersebut, ia memang terlihat indah.

Sayangnya, belum ada informasi pasti kira-kira spesifikasi PC seperti apa yang dibutuhkan untuk menjalankan game yang ambisius ini, terutama di 4K dengan ray-tracing aktif. Cyberpunk 2077 confirmed for GeForce Now, will have ray tracing via the cloud

This brings the running total of CP2077 cloud-launch platforms to two. Will that grow?

Thanks to Cyberpunk 2077‘s delay to September 2020, gamers have even longer to decide how they’ll play this highly anticipated game. Existing consoles? The upcoming PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X? Various PC configurations?

We’re still waiting for more details on the game’s launch strategy (particularly on newer consoles), but one other option just got more interesting: playing this stylish, Keanu-tinged adventure over the cloud. We already knew Google Stadia would have the game in September, but now, Nvidia has confirmed it’s coming on launch day to its own GeForce Now service as well. Meaning, you’ll be able to buy the game on Steam, then stream its gameplay from one of Nvidia’s servers.

On the surface, this availability seems similar to Google Stadia’s offer. If you want to play the (presumably) demanding Cyberpunk 2077 at its “highest quality” settings when it launches and don’t want to pony up for a newer console or PC, you can stream the game as rendered by a server farm and contend with a hit to latency—which we’ve found in our tests ranges from annoying to tolerable to downright unnoticeable. Even with a smidgen of button-tap lag and a hit to bandwidth caps, the results could be easier to stomach than the sticker price of a new piece of hardware.

But Nvidia’s offering adds two lucrative options to the table that Stadia can’t yet match. First up is guaranteed support for Nvidia’s RTX pipeline of DirectX 12-based ray-tracing effects. When you boot CP2077 on a GeForce Now instance, you’ll get to enable the game’s ray-tracing effects… so long as you pay for GeForce Now’s “premiere” membership tier, which currently costs $5 per month (a rate that users can lock into for 12 months if they subscribe as of press time). We’re still waiting for an exact breakdown of how those effects will look in action or comparisons to the non-RTX build, but RTX-pipeline patches for recent games like Control and Wolfenstein Youngblood suggest that the results should look handsome—and GeForce Now is currently a much cheaper path to guaranteeing their rendering than buying a $400-and-up RTX-enabled Nvidia GPU.

Google’s selection of Stadia games, as rendered by AMD GPU instances, do not yet include toggles for ray tracing or global illumination, and we’ve yet to hear any indication that this will change in time for CP2077‘s September launch.

Your license, your choice

Secondly, even if you don’t pay for GeForce Now’s premiere membership, you can still access the game via Nvidia’s servers at a 1080p resolution… while also retaining a license to download and install the game on a current (or future) PC. This is because GeForce Now syncs with users’ Steam libraries. You won’t have to buy CP2077 from an Nvidia-exclusive store and be stuck with a streaming-only copy of the game. (Ideally, Nvidia wants you to eventually pony up for one of its RTX cards and take your games home with you.) The game’s Stadia edition, on the other hand, must be bought from Google’s Stadia store and will only work via Google’s server farm. Its licenses do not, as of press time, transfer to any other service.

Nvidia did not immediately answer questions about whether it will extend this support to CP2077‘s GOG version. Notably, another major CD Projekt Red game, The Witcher 3, just announced cross-save support between Nintendo Switch, GOG, and Steam.

Why such an early cloud-gaming announcement, when CP2077 is a whopping seven months away? Nvidia may want to assure interested cloud gamers that its service has esteemed publisher support. Only one week ago, Blizzard pulled a bizarre switcheroo by enabling Battle.net games logins when GeForce Now launched, only to yank them away.

There’s also the question of how the game will interface with Microsoft and Sony’s future cloud-streaming plans, with Nvidia wanting to beat them to the punch. The current Project xCloud test, still in closed beta, is a clear indication of Microsoft’s cloud-streaming support within its Xbox ecosystem, but it’s currently limited to Xbox One S rendering levels. We may very well see the Xbox division announce that its streaming service will include higher-end streams equivalent to Xbox Series X rendering quality. If that announcement comes alongside news that CP2077 will get special Xbox Series X enhancements, that could make an Xbox purchase of the game all the more enticing. The same goes for Sony and its PlayStation Now streaming arm.

To be clear: CD Projekt Red has yet to announce any plans to port special versions of CP2077 to Xbox Series X or PlayStation 5.

Need For Speed Underground Mod Receives a Ray Tracing Overhaul

Need for Speed Underground’s Redux mod has been given a ray tracing overhaul and the results are shown off in this gameplay video.

Need for Speed Underground came out in 2003, that’s 17 years ago, and thanks to some fancy modding work, we get to see what the game would look like with ray tracing shaders applied to the street racing title from EA. However, if you’re planning on running it, you’ll need a pretty powerful computer.

The original modification Need for Speed Underground Redux was created by AMTxDRxRL, released in 2017, and features new global reshade and texmod modifications. The mod was apparently in development for 6 months and also includes over 300 high-resolution textures alongside detailed road reflections and realistic fog shaders.

Now, modder Stre1itzia has taken the redux mod and ported it over to a new version of ReShade as well as adding new shaders including ray tracing. The results are showcased in the above video, and while it certainly looks a lot more flashy, shiny, and pretty, the performance has taken a hit.

The video was captured at high resolution with a frame rate lock on 30fps. The graphics card used by Stre1itzia is a GeForce GTX 1060 3gb which does seem to support ray tracing, but not as well as more advanced graphic cards.

For those unaware, ray tracing is a new technology that massively improves reflections and global illumination in video games, bringing more realistic lighting and reflections to games such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Control and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 which has recently seen a brand new themed GPU teased.

Minecraft RTX Use Ray Tracing in New World | How to find Ray Tracing capable resource pack

If you’ve managed to install the Minecraft RTX beta, you may notice that you can’t use ray tracing with a new world by default. To enable ray tracing in a custom world in Minecraft RTX, you need a ray tracing capable resource pack. Unfortunately, you won’t find one of these on the market. Instead, you’ll have to download an RTX capable resource pack and install it yourself.

How to download a ray-tracing capable resource pack for Minecraft RTX

Unfortunately, you can’t just download a ray tracing compatible resource pack off the marketplace. For whatever reason, they haven’t been added there as of now. However, there are four ray tracing capable packs available right now. These are the same ones that were used to make the RTX creator worlds that you can demo in the beta, and you can use them to make a new world.

To download the ray tracing resource packs for Minecraft RTX, all you need to do is head over to NVIDIA’s website and check out the blog post titled “Minecraft with RTX PBR Texturing Guide.” About a quarter of the way down the page you’ll find links in the text to four resource packs:

  • HD Decorative Resource Pack
  • HD Foundational Resource Pack
  • Muddle RTX
  • RazzleCore RTX

All four of these packs allow you to create a new world in Minecraft RTX and enable ray tracing.

To manually install a resource pack:

  • Copy the zip file(s) you downloaded. (Don’t unzip it.)
  • Go to “C:Users(username)AppDataRoaming.Minecraft
    esourcepacks”
    OR
    “C:Users(username)AppDataLocalPackagesMicrosoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe
    LocalStategamescom.mojang
    esourcepacks”
  • Paste the zip file(s) into this folder
  • Open Minecraft
  • Look under Options and Resource Packs
  • Activate the packs you want to use

Note that if you can’t find the resourcepacks folder that you’ll need to check “Show hidden files and folders” in the view menu of Windows Explorer.

How to turn on ray tracing in a new world in Minecraft RTX

Once you’ve downloaded one of the RTX capable resource packs above and activated it, you can start a new world just like you would in any other version of Minecraft. Once in-game you can turn on ray tracing by:

  • Open the Settings menu.
  • Click on Advanced Video under General
  • Check “DirectX Ray Tracing” to enable RTX
  • Check “Upscaling” to enable DLSS (this will help performance considerably)

When you return to your game, RTX should be enabled, and you’re good to go!

What is ray tracing on PS5? Every time that Sony has brought up the PlayStation 5, it’s also mentioned ray tracing, using the term as a selling point. But just what is ray tracing, and what does it bring to Sony’s next-gen console? Without getting too technical, we’re going to answer that question in this very guide.

What is PS5 Ray Tracing?

First off, we need to understand what ray tracing actually is. Ray tracing is essentially a method of simulating realistic light in computer graphics. A slightly more detailed explanation is that ray tracing simulates the “path” light takes when it interacts with open spaces and objects. This allows for light to have a “volume” to it — something that you don’t necessarily get from generic light sources in video games.

Ray tracing allows for light to interact with its surroundings in a dynamic and natural way. For example, a ray of sunlight shining through an apartment window in Grand Theft Auto V is basically just a block of light. It casts shadows and it moves based on the in-game time of day, but that’s about it. With ray tracing, that ray of sunlight “fills” the space that it enters — it’s no longer just a block, it’s a dynamic shape that changes and interacts with surfaces based on where it’s coming from and the angle that it enters the room.

However, as you’d expect, ray tracing can be quite demanding. Mostly used in film, it’s not something that you see in current video games on consoles, but with the power of the PS5, ray tracing could become a lot more commonplace. Mark Cerny, PS5’s system architect, is keen to stress that the next-gen console’s ray tracing solution isn’t a half-heated effort: “There is ray-tracing acceleration in the GPU hardware,” he says, clarifying it won’t be a simple software-level fix. While ray tracing is certainly being pushed as a next-gen buzzword by companies like Sony, the technology is undeniably impressive. Artist defends controversial Cyberpunk 2077 image

A CD Projekt Red artist has defended an image she created for Cyberpunk 2077 which has ignited accusations of transphobia.

The image took some spotting – it appeared in a still from Cyberpunk 2077 pulled out for use in an advertisement for nVidia’s ray-tracing technology. It took the form of an in-game ad itself – for a fictional drink called ChroManticore that comes in: “16 flavours you’d love to mix.” It has caused controversy because it consists of a “hypersexualized” image apparently of a woman, who clearly also possesses a penis, accompanied by the tagline: “Mix it up.”

Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red upset the trans community in August 2018, with a feeble attempt at a joke on Cyberpunk 2077’s Twitter account, as detailed then by Polygon. So the company is perceived as having transphobic form, and objections to the Cyberpunk 2077 poster have been raised on social media.

Polygon tracked down the artist who created the poster, Kasia Redesiuk. She pointed out that the image is supposed to be a commentary on corporate rapacity: “Personally, for me, this person is sexy. I like how this person looks. However, this model is used — their beautiful body is used — for corporate reasons. They are displayed there just as a thing, and that’s the terrible part of it.”

Redesiuk continued: “Cyberpunk 2077 is a dystopian future where mega-corporations dictate everything. They shove products down their throats. They create those very aggressive advertisements that use, and abuse, a lot of people’s needs and instincts. So, hypersexualization is apparent everywhere, and in our ads there are many examples of hypersexualized women, hypersexualized men, and hypersexualized people in between. This is all to show that hypersexualization in advertisements is just terrible. It was a conscious choice on our end to show that in this world — a world where you are a cyberpunk, a person fighting against corporations. That [advertisement] is what you’re fighting against.”

Redesiuk added that offending the trans community was the opposite of what she meant: “I would say it was never the intention to offend anyone. However, with this image of an oversexualized person, we did want to show how oversexualization of people is bad. And that’s it. I think that sexy bodies are sexy. Full disclosure: I love female bodies. I love male bodies. I love bodies in between. This is who I am. However, I hate it when it’s used commercially.”

Cyberpunk 2077 gets ray tracing courtesy of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX GPUs

Cyberpunk 2077 will support ray tracing on GeForce RTX graphics cards, with CD Projekt Red announcing a partnership with Nvidia at E3 2019 to juice up the visuals of the much-anticipated game.

So those who have bought a GeForce RTX card will be able to enjoy realistic lighting and other ray tracing bells and whistles – and maybe even other GPUs, theoretically, although the dedicated RT cores will doubtless be needed to ensure the game runs smoothly.

Nvidia also furnished us with a couple of screenshots to show off what we can expect from ray tracing (at 4K resolution) in Cyberpunk 2077, which you can cast your eye over on this page.

We recently commented that what we saw recently at E3 in terms of Cyberpunk’s graphics didn’t blow us away in quite the same way as a year ago, but these ray tracing pics look very tasty (particularly the lighting and reflections in the top image).

DLSS in the mix?

Whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 will also get DLSS support isn’t clear, but many gamers will be hopeful that this is the case, in order to help the title run smoothly on RTX GPUs if ray tracing is switched on.

DLSS can give a very substantial boost to frame rates, which could be crucial to offset any of the overheads imposed by turning on ray tracing. Indeed, it could be particularly important seeing as this game is shaping up to be a highly demanding title in terms of how taxing the graphics are, even before ray tracing is thrown into the equation.

We’ll just have to wait and see, but it would make sense for Nvidia to make the effort to also include DLSS, given how high-profile this game is. DLSS support alone could be a major driver to get people to pick up RTX graphics cards.

My Cyberpunk 2077 PC Build

The last time I did a full PC build was about 9 years ago. I think I built it for The Witcher 2 if I remember right. It has been a good one. But I think it is going to hit its limit with Cyberpunk 2077 and other games I want to play this year. The United States government also sent out stimulus checks. So I had some extra money for a new build.

My theory is as long as you keep your PC specs above consoles you can play anything you want. So I wanted to be better than any current-gen or next-gen consoles.

My Thoughts on Video Cards

I’ve been hearing a lot about ray tracing. I feel like that’s only going to become more popular over time so I wanted to have that ability in my computer build. I also hear Cyberpunk 2077 will be able to take advantage of ray tracing.

My Thoughts on CPUs

The last time around I put an AMD Phenom with 6 CPU cores in my PC build. A few people told me I was crazy because games do not use more than 2 cores. But I had a feeling that would change and it has. I think this is one of the main reasons my old PC was able to last so long.

CPU speeds do not really grow anymore so in my opinion cores are what matter. With that being said I want more cores. At least 8 without going too crazy on the price.

My Thoughts on Memory

You don’t think about memory until you run out. On my last build, I went with 8GBs. I remember I wanted 16GBs but it cost a lot at the time.

9 years later 8GBs is not really that much. I almost went for 16GBs this time but then I remembered 9 years ago. I had the extra money so I decided on 32GBs.

My Thoughts on Storage

I’ve been behind the curve on storage for a while. I only got my first SSD a few years ago and the boost it gave my current computer was amazing. But at 500GBs it is not that big. The last 3 games I played were all over 40GBs in size and new ones are getting even bigger.

NieR Automata = 48 GBs
Fallout 76 = 58 GBs
Final Fantasy XV = 105GBs

I am saving some money going with a SATA type. I’ve seen some blind tests were people can’t tell a difference with game loading times between a SATA or the “faster” M.2. So SATA it is.

My Thoughts on Computer Cases

Cooling and airflow are all I care about. I can care less about RGB. In fact, I think it just makes extra heat and uses up extra power. I guess I am more of a minimalist.

Now that you know my thought process here is the build I’ve gone with. The prices I list are what I paid at the time. Some stuff was on sale. Hopefully, they drop for you too!

I don’t have any benchmarks yet. I’m still in the process of moving off my old computer and I need my monitors there. But I plan on posting something soon. Make sure you check back!

The Start of Another 9 Years!

Maybe this computer will last me another 9 years of gaming! I hope so. I feel like it will at least play Cyberpunk 2077 well.

I have some M.2 slots on the motherboard in case that becomes a bigger deal down the road. But I think the rest of it is pretty future proof for a while. What do you think? Let me know in a comment below.

NVIDIA Unveils Cyberpunk 2077 Graphics Card

There are few games as highly-anticipated this year as Cyberpunk 2077. The title is slated to arrive in September on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and Microsoft Windows. Players planning on purchasing the latter option will be interested to know that NVIDIA has revealed an exclusive graphics card emblazoned with the game’s logo. Only 77 have been made by the company, however, and to get one, fans will have to retweet the tweet below, and tag a friend in the replies. If selected, both parties will receive the exclusive GPU! For PC players that might need an upgrade ahead of the game’s release, this could be the best option to do so!

As far as tie-ins go, the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Cyberpunk 2077 Edition is fairly unique, but it makes sense given NVIDIA’s role in the game’s development. Last June, the company announced a partnership with developer CD Projekt Red in order to bring real-time ray tracing to Cyberpunk 2077. As a result of the inclusion, the game’s lighting will work in a fashion that’s far more realistic in the type of city environment players will find themselves in throughout the game.

Of course, it makes sense that CD Projekt Red is trying to make the game as authentic as possible. As the team behind the critically-acclaimed The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, CD Projekt Red’s latest has earned some lofty expectations from gamers. Based on the tabletop RPG created by Mike Pondsmith, Cyberpunk 2077 puts players in the role of the mercenary, V. The game takes place in Night City, an area controlled by corporations. In Night City, guns can be openly carried, cybernetic enhancements are abused by the poor, and violence abounds.

Cyberpunk 2077 and Watch Dogs Legion getting ray tracing support

Ray tracing is still a growing lighting technology and support for it has been somewhat scant since Nvidia revealed it to the world. However, the tech is getting some pretty huge showcases in the form of Cyberpunk 2077 and Watch Dogs Legion getting support directly from Nvidia. In the case of Legion, we don’t have any footage of how it will look, but Nvidia pledged their official support.

As for Cyberpunk 2077, however, we got a couple of screenshots to gawk at.

As you can see, just stunning. Cyberpunk 2077 is the perfect showcase for this technology with its bright neon lights and sprawling megacity, but rest assured that the hardware needed to make those screenshots will make any accountant cry in anguish. Watch Dogs Legion similarly is a huge open world in sunny London which means it might even be more intense.

With next-gen consoles having ray tracing as a feature on their lists, we have to pay close attention to this technology going forward. We’re still in early stages, but even then we managed to make it work in a CD Projekt Red open-world game which is impressive in itself.
