@Felix2809 easy way to make this better, downscale to 4k. get rid of most of the aids in the description, you’re set.

OMG, what on earth is this? You can’t just take a POT (Power Of Two) texture that uses a 0.0 to 1.0 UV space horizontally and vertically and make it an arbitrary resolution of 7680 x 4320. Do you even know why not? Do you even know what this is going to cause the game to do with it in memory?

It’s going to decompress the texture into an 8192 x 8192 texture, because that’s what it needs. That means it’s effectively going to double the resolution of everything on the Y. Not only is it going to do that with the main texture, it’s going to do it with all THIRTEEN mipmap levels.It isn’t going to just do that once, because it will unload the texture when it doesn’t need it and then do it all again when it has to reload it.

That means it’s using almost 4000 vertical pixels it has no need to use but is forced into using, because of the ridiculous resolution. On top of that, it’s going to filter the edges when it scales the texture, which is going to cause edge artefacting where the UVs tile. It needs 0.0 to 1.0 UV space, it has to scale to that, you can’t tile textures that don’t fill the UV space unless you manually tile the UV mapping. They’re probably using procedural UV mapping, you don’t manually map water quads.

waterbump2 is a tiled 2048 x 2048 texture for no reason whatsoever. You just don’t need tiled textures that big when the tiling detail is so small, it’s pointless on something as expansive as water.The whole point of tiling textures, is that you don’t see the edges, so why do you need the edges so far apart resolution wise? You don’t is the answer to that. You increase definition by scaling the texture and the refining the content, not just making the content more dense. The waterfoam texture looks like Rorscach test image, because it’s just flipped and repeated.

The game appears to use real-world texture scaling, meaning they’re scaled to accurately represent 1m x 1m real world space. The UV tiling will be done based on the original texture sizes, so when you increase the texture resolution and put 8x the amount of detail density across it, you’re compressing the real-world scale down to incorrect values.

You people need to remember, you’re modifying the work of professional artists, who make choices based on common sense, knowledge and experience. If you make choices based on ignorance, everyone who uses the textures will pay the price in performance. and when you’re compensating for resolution screw-ups on this scale, there will be a price.

If you’re going to mod textures, then for god’s sake read and learn first. There’s no excuse for “Well I didn’t know”, when the internet is full of information that tells you.

For the record, I do game texture art. Lx I trust that’s enough “feedback” to warrant my justified rating.

Note:
Windows 10 users: (PLEASE READ)
The Creators update for Windows 10 introduced a wide variety of problems, especially for games with custom renders.
If you encounter problems like messed-up graphics or extreme slowdowns, then read how to fix it here: (LINK)
*Follow the steps in number 4.

If the game runs fine, but still looks messed up (Black sky, missing UI) the press, Ctrl + Alt + Delete in-game, and select “Task Manager”. Close the task manager again without doing anything, and return to the game.
This will reload ReShade, and everything should look fine.

If nothing work, then Windows 10 is somehow still blocking the custom render file.
Search Google for alternative ways of forcing Windows 10 to use custom d3d files.
. Or, if you are unable to fix it, then just remove the ReShade.
Delete the “d3d9.dll” file but keep everything else. This will disable ReShade effects, but keep the natural colors.

Special K Soon to be Listed on the Steam Store

When Special K goes live for “sale” (Free and Open Source Software still) on Steam, development and support should be directed there. This group will remain for archival purposes and curator purposes if Kaldaien continues to reverse engineer and fix individual games in order to comment on their ports.

We would like to keep the store forums more professional, and that means Development threads that aren’t 90% tech talk and 10% development talk 😉 In order to facilitate that, if you still want to have a threaded discussion with the same group of people, the group’s perfectly suited to that.

For now try to think of the store forums as formal / professional and the group as informal. If there is a more meaningful way of distinguishing the two or allowing a more casual environment in the store forums we’ll figure it out as things go.

I have decided to release the core system used by all of my mods as a standalone product for the PC gaming community to use in all games.

Generally, features in this project are developed and tested in other projects first. If they are general purpose and I believe they will be useful (and not impossible for me to debug and support), they eventually wind up in Special K for you to use in all of your games.

Those custom one-off fixes that do amazing things in Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Zestiria .. will probably stay there as they are tailored specifically to those games graphics engines.

But the texture streaming system developed to load 4K textures in real-time in Tales of Symphonia without any added load-time, is eventually going to be moved into Special K for use in all D3D 9 / 11 / (12?) and GL games. I want to make as many features like that cross-API as I can to make this a truly unique tool.

Gta 5 8gb crashes

Grand Theft Auto V

im trying to allocate at lease 8 out of my 16GB of RAM to gta 5 to hopfully stop crashing from memory issues and stop horrible stuttering and framerate issues.

yes i do have mods, no im not uninstalling said mods. i only have roughly 15 content mods whitch souldnt be making me have horrible issues

My specs:
Intel Core i7 6700K @ 4.00GHz 17% overclocked,
Motherboard: ASUS Z170-A,
Mem: 16GB of DDR4,
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB 150% overclocked.

There are some singular mods of a couple files that aren’t even “content” that can render gtav a stuttery crashy mess on certain systems – including those with 16gb ram.

As mentioned (in your previous thread) – I’d look at getting/building a custom gameconfig.xml.
Possibly set windows pagefile/virtual memory to be system controlled – and/or – match your ram.
And- strip your mods, only install one at a time to see IF infact, you have a problem child.
For all we know – your issues could be heavily based on your graphic settings themselves.

Can we assume your game works 100% fine with zero issues on a completely vanilla install?
You certainly never responded to your other thread beyond crash occurences.

I always crash when I try to set my game to fullscreen. I either have to go with Windowed or Borderless. Anyone know why?

And my FPS is fine as well. Always over 60.

My friend and I both have this problem too.We have a very similar setup: GTX980, 32GB RAM and i7 5820K (it’s irrevelant because this happens to AMD users too).

I have around 65 hours in multiplayer and never had a SINGLE crash until today. And now it happens all the time the game won’t launch in full screen it either says “game stopped responding” or “ERR_GFX_D3D_INIT” with something unimportant written below along the lines of “wait until the program respond or try restarting it”.

Many users seems to have this problem and no real solutions has been found. No matter what you do this will come back sooner or later since all fixes we’ve tried seems to “delay” the problem and not fix it. Seems like the game is twitchy about factory overclocked GPU or something along thoses lines.

Rockstar will most likely patch this issue sooner or later.

PS: My friend got the issue to happen on day one and has been having it since and I only got it today 65 hours online later. That’s pretty odd if you ask me!

You only need fullscreen if you use Nvidia DSR or borderless gives you stuttering. If neither of those apply, borderless is better so you dont get screen tearing and dont need vsync.

My friend and I both have this problem too.We have a very similar setup: GTX980, 32GB RAM and i7 5820K (it’s irrevelant because this happens to AMD users too).

I have around 65 hours in multiplayer and never had a SINGLE crash until today. And now it happens all the time the game won’t launch in full screen it either says “game stopped responding” or “ERR_GFX_D3D_INIT” with something unimportant written below along the lines of “wait until the program respond or try restarting it”.

Many users seems to have this problem and no real solutions has been found. No matter what you do this will come back sooner or later since all fixes we’ve tried seems to “delay” the problem and not fix it. Seems like the game is twitchy about factory overclocked GPU or something along thoses lines.

Rockstar will most likely patch this issue sooner or later.

PS: My friend got the issue to happen on day one and has been having it since and I only got it today 65 hours online later. That’s pretty odd if you ask me!

i have this problem too. alwats crash after main menu in GTA IV v1.07. 🙁

this problem will gone, if iam using -windowed in launch option. how to fix this?? 🙁

D3D errors are related to direct 3D, part of directx
try install the packages as admin, all of them.

use maybe launch option command
-dx9
or -dx9_3
-nomemrestrict -norestrictions -availablevidmem 100

also microsoft is aware of a D3D errors in Anniversary, KB3176938 was supose to fix that.
the first KB3176938 was terrible and people had issues.
then they released a second one.
and that second one is installed on my PC, also terrible i think.
i got more problems now with it.

and more problems with nvidia latest WDDM 2.1 drivers now.
the 373.06 makes my screen go on/off few times a day.
the latest 375.63 too

i am going to uninstall that crap KB3176938 again, a fresh installation does not even install the KB
in order to install the windows updates KB files manually i needed to uninstall in right order.
and reinstall via windows updates.

Gta 5 800×600

I have just upgraded win7 to win10 and re-installed fresh GTA 5. However, I have run into an issue – no matter what I do, resolution will not budge from 800×600 (my screen res is 1920×1080) regardless if it’s fullscreen, windowed or windowed borderless. How come this is happenenig? How come I cannot adjust the res in the settings and how do I fix this?

I would appreciate your help.

Can happen by not running steam as admin and/or permission issues. Can happen due to corrupt/non-updated drivers – especially if you just upgraded win7 to win10 and didn’t DDU/clean reinstall fresh drivers from whichever vendor. Can happen due to other background/overlay programs like msi, riva, etc. Can be caused by geforce experience too.

Personally – I’d start with exiting steam, rightclick, run it as admin. Then open my documents / rockstar games / gtav – and delete settings.xml. Give it a try. Don’t work? Try benchmark/testing the new res. Others have also mentioned needing to go into the actual storymode before settings have saved.

Of course – you can always open that settings.xml file and manually change the res.
But if you are having the issue due to one of the other above mentioned things. it may not work.
