World of Warcraft: Legion: Paladin guide

Our essential guide to playing all three Paladin specs in WOW Legion.

About Luis Magalhães

The Paladin is one of Warcraft’s most iconic classes. Paladins had starring roles in the story Warcraft’s real-time strategy outings, after all, and for a long time they were exclusively represented by the Alliance faction.

Paladins in the Warcraft mythos are holy warriors that wield the power of the Light, a non-sentient force that pervades the Warcraft universe and can be used to either strike foes or heal and empower allies. Paladins are, then, a caster / fighter hybrid, although how much casting they do relative to melee varies dramatically according to the specialization. Whichever spec you choose, every Paladin wears plate armour, automatically becoming one of the more resilient presences on the battlefield – their place is in the frontlines, in the thick of the battle.

In our Paladin guide, we’ll go through the three specialisations now available to the class – Protection, Retribution and Holy – as well as each spec’s strengths and weaknesses. In the additional guides linked from here, you’ll find specific strategies to help you develop and play each specialisation to its fullest potential.

Paladins are one of Warcraft’s few hybrid classes, meaning that each of their specialisations focuses on an entirely different role in World of Warcraft: melee damage-dealing, healing or tanking. In the current Legion expansion, each of these specialisations have been tweaked so as to have a more distinct, unique playstyle. At high levels, they gain entry into the Sanctum of Light, their order hall and henceforth, base of operations.

This Paladin guide is our hub to everything Paladin related. We will update it over time with all the relevant information pertaining to World of Warcraft’s holy warrior, so make sure you check in regularly!

Editor’s Note: Update #1 – We’ve added a whole guide for the Protection Paladin specialisation, covering all you need to know to start your career as an awesome endgame tank. Go check it out down below!

Retribution Paladin

The Retribution Paladin is a stout warrior that uses the power of the Holy Light to smite his foes and protect himself from harm. They are experts in wielding large, two-handed weapons – maces, swords, axes or polearms – and at high levels they come into possession of The Ashbringer, a holy two-handed sword steeped in Warcraft lore, having been held by notable Paladin heroes over the course of Warcraft’s history.

The Retribution Paladin is an excellent entry-level character due to its ability to withstand damage and its capacity to shield or self-heal. At the same time, and especially at high levels, their skill rotation is as easy to learn as it is tricky to truly master

Strengths Excellent single-target damage output, as well as high survivability through self-healing and defensive skills.
Weaknesses Very low mobility – one of the slowest-moving classes in the game. Multiple target damage output is only good at maximum level after considerable weapon upgrades.

Protection Paladin

The Protection Paladin is the class’s tank specialisation, meaning its job is to draw the attacks of the enemies faced by the party, so that other players can attack the target unhindered. To achieve this, Protection Paladins wield defensive one-hand weapons – swords, maces or axes – coupled with stout shields. At high levels, they wield Truthguard, a shield forged by the Scandinavian-inspired demi-gods of Azeroth, and its partner blade, Oathseeker.

Protection Paladins, despite their defensive focus, are able to deal a respectable amount of damage as well, particularly to multiple targets. They do not, however, have as many defensive tools as other tank specialisations, relying on self-healing instead. Their abilities are not overly complex, although good positioning and situational awareness skills are crucial.

Strengths Excellent multiple target damage output, and strong active mitigation abilities ensure a smooth damage intake.
Weaknesses Relies on consecrating the ground the Paladin stands in for maximising survival, leading to reduced mobility. Abilities that allow the Paladin to withstand large bursts of damage have a narrow window of opportunity and long cooldowns.

Holy Paladin

The Holy Paladin is a combat healer. Holy Paladins are essentially plate-wearing casters whose major focus is on healing those nearby. Conveniently, the Strength stat in most modern Plate armour is converted into Intellect when donned by a Holy Paladin. Their plate and excellent defensive abilities make them especially adept at healing players near bosses that do area-wide damage. They can also pitch in with some damage if required.

Holy Paladins are most commonly seen wielding caster-oriented 1-handed swords and hammers, coupled with spell-enhancing offhands. Later in their careers, Holy Paladins wield Tyr’s Hand, a weapon that once belonged to the Watcher / Demi-god Tyr.

Holy Paladins are the perfect choice for players who want to play a support role but still be in the thick of the action. They excel at healing tanks in dungeons or raids, and are one of the few healing specialisations that can actually level up at a decent pace – although obviously not as quickly as their damage-focused brethren.

Strengths Fantastic single-target healing and the most resilient healers in the game, able to survive under extreme duress.
Weaknesses Very few group healing tools, and a lack of powerful healing cooldowns to deal with large damage spikes.

What’s your favourite flavour of Paladin? Let us know in the comments, and keep checking in for regular updates. Next up, we’re going to add updates on the Protection Paladin Artifact Weapon, and a guide to the Holy Paladin specialisation.

World of Warcraft Hunter Guide

Out of all the classes in World of Warcraft, the Hunter is by far the most versatile. Between the available talent builds, the pet options and their sheer prowess, it’s hard to go wrong with this class. If you are considered playing this class with your character, here is a comprehensive guide to success with the World of Warcraft Hunter.

Starting Out

One of the main keys to success in this class is making sure that your character is right for the job. You’ll need to look at your own personal strengths and make sure that they are a good fit with the abilities of a hunter. Although the name tends to conjure up images of tracking down and shooting animals, the hunter class is much more than that. They have definite strengths and weaknesses that can make playing this class a little tricky.

What a hunter excels at: Ranged warfare, including the use of bows, guns or crossbows. They are incredibly effective at dispatching their enemies with these means. Their tracking abilities are very strong and they are also very good at surviving. The use of pets for this class means that the pet can absorb much of the damage from an attack, leaving you with more time to play.

What they don’t excel at: Melee fighting is the most problematic for the hunter class. The class isn’t eligible for armor until you reach level 40, so this can be quite an issue in the early levels.

Now that you know what a hunter can and cannot do, you can begin to craft your strategy for dealing with enemies. Remember, the further off you are from danger, the better your chances of victory will be. It is very important to invest in a pet as a hunter since they can take up the slack when it comes to melee fighting. While they are getting up close and personal, the hunter can stay back and deal out damage from afar.

Picking a Profession for Your Hunter

Now that you’ve decided to play this class, you’re going to need to pick a profession that meshes well with a hunter’s innate abilities. Your best bet is going to be the combination of skinning and leatherworking since this will allow you to make your own armor. However, another great combination is mining and skinning since this will allow you to make enough money to quickly purchase additional armor and weapons.

The professions that really don’t mesh well with a hunter are alchemy, tailoring or enchanting. While they are incredibly useful for other classes, there just isn’t much that will benefit a hunter from these professions. A middle of the road profession that can be very useful is herbalism, since you can use this to make your own healing potions. This is very helpful until you can get a pet to assist you with melee fighting.

The Weapons

As we mentioned previously, the hunter excels at ranged warfare. You’re going to want to concentrate on bows and crossbows, or if you have the skill, guns as well. When you first start out, you’ll get a pretty basic bow, but you can purchase a more effective one as you progressive through the levels that will earn you more skill and help you become more accurate. There are also many ranged weapons that you can earn as you complete quests.

This is page 1 of 2 of our World of Warcraft Hunter Guide. In the next page you’ll learn secrets such as Hunter Abilities, Choosing a Pet, Putting it All Together and more: WoW Hunter Guide (page 2)

World of warcraft walkthrough

Priests are and have always been the spiritual leaders in World of Warcraft. However, they do far more than hide away in their places of worship. Armed with spells granted by their deities, Priests can be found throughout the world adventuring alongside other formidable heroes.

While many may see the Priest as only a healer, they can also call upon their powers to do incredible damage. Able to tap into the Holy and Shadow side of their belief’s, Priests are a formidable force all on their own. With that being said, Priests healing prowess is nearly unmatched. The only role Priests cannot fill successfully is that of a tank, but in both healing and damage, the Priest truly shines.

Current Expansion: Warlords of Draenor

Choosing the Priest

Priests, as briefly mentioned above, are capable of filling both damage and healing roles. Using their spiritual connection to cast spells, the Priest is a totally ranged class. While the Priest is typically considered to be a “squishy” class, they have numerous defense spells that will allow them to take a hit or two. With that being said, tanking is most certainly not on the list of things a Priest should take on, at least for those Priests who wish to stay alive.

Besides being able to cast powerful spells to do damage and healing, Priests also provide valuable utility spells. With powerful shields, buffs, and much more, Priests are a well rounded class that compliments any group. Playing the Priest is never a dull experience.

Many races are able to become Priests, leaving a plethora of options for the player. This is a great class to choose if you are uncertain of which race is right for you. Race options include: Draenei, Dwarf, Gnome, Human, Night Elf, Worgen, Blood Elf, Goblin, Tauren, Troll, Undead, and Pandaren.

Priest Core Abilities

Every Priest comes with a core set of abilities that are common to the class. These abilities are very distinctive and tend to define what makes a Priest a Priest. These abilities are able to be used by all Priests, regardless of the specialization they ultimately choose. Examples of such abilities include: Levitate, Smite, Fade, Shadow Word: Pain, and Inner Fire.

Besides spells, Cloth armor is also standard for all Priests. Unable to wear any heavier armor, Priests will never be on the front lines. However, this armor is perfect for mobility, provides the stats the Priest needs, and looks good all at the same time.

On the weapons side of things, Priests have far more options than they do for armor. Weapons available to your Priest include: Daggers, One-Handed Maces, Staves, and Wands. No heavy two-handed swords or axes for this class.

Priest Mana

Mana is the resource Priest’s use to fuel their spells and abilities. Mana starts out full until a spell is used. Mana can be quickly regenerated by drinking in game. Mana also regenerates slowly by itself. Mana Potions are also available for restoration in a pinch. Stats on gear can increase the amount of Mana the Priest has.

Priest Specialization

As the Priest levels they will eventually be asked to choose one of three separate specializations; Discipline, Shadow, or Holy. Each of these three specializations will take the Priest down a different path, offering up different skills along the way. Discipline Priests will use their link to their gods to smite down enemies, while still being able to shield and heal their allies. Shadow Priests tap into the dark side of their magic and focus on damage over time spells to eradicate foes. Holy Priests on the other hand focus solely on healing, able to heal individuals or groups with ease.

Each specialization will offer the player a totally different play experience. Feel free to pick whichever specialization best suits your personal play style or try them all to mix things up a bit! Every Priest spec is currently viable in game. The Priest is always a welcome addition to every group no matter if they are doing damage or casting some epic heals.

Champions of Azeroth reputation guide (World of Warcraft)

Champions of Azeroth is a new faction added in Battle for Azeroth, and one of the few factions that is open for both the Horde and the Alliance. Their reputation quartermaster is none other than Magni Bronzebeard, and he is located close to the wound in Silithus.

The Champions of Azeroth are a very important faction in BfA, since each new reputation level will give you bonus item levels to your Artifact Necklace Heart of Azeroth. Both Friendly, Honored, and Revered gives you an additional 15 bonus item levels, and you need to claim these by going to Silithus and doing a talking quest with Magni to get it.

Getting reputation with Champions of Azeroth

The main way to get reputation with Champions of Azeroth is by doing World Quests. In contrast to many of the other factions in Battle for Azeroth, the Champions of Azeroth are not tied to a single zone, but can instead spawn World Quests in any zone (much like The Wardens in Legion). Basically any quest that involves Azerite will give 125 reputation with Champions of Azeroth. There are also no real quest chains that give reputation with Champions of Azeroth, so you need to get it all from other sources.

The Champions of Azeroth can also have an Emissary Quest up, where you will get an additional 1,500 reputation by completing 4 of their World Quests. Each new day will get a new random Emissary Quests, and make sure to do this before the 72 hour timer is done if you want the bonus rep (the a bonus chest with a chance for some nice gear).

You can also use the item Contract: Champions of Azeroth to get an extra 10 reputation with Champions of Azeroth any time you complete a World Quest (with any faction). This item lasts forever, but you can only have one faction contract at a time. The item is made by the profession Inscription, and can be bought on the Auction House. Keep in mind that you need to be Friendly with Champions of Azeroth to use it, so you will need to get some rep before you can use this.

A final way to get rep with Champions of Azeroth is from the Mission Table, where you do follower missions. Some of these can award the item Champion of Azeroth that gives 150 reputation. This is BoP, so you cannot farm it on alts like you could in Legion.

Champions of Azeroth reputation rewards

In addition to giving 15 item levels to your Artifact per reputation level (except for at Exalted), the faction sells the following items:

Drape of the Azerothian Champion – ilvl 320 cloak

Drop of Azerite – Azerite Puddle pet
Shard of Azerite – Azeriti pet

Azerothian Champion’s Crown – ilvl 355 cloth helm
Vest of the Azerothian Champion – ilvl 355 leather chest
Azerothian Champion’s Spaulders – ilvl 355 mail shoulders
Helm of the Azerothian Champion – ilvl 355 plate helm
Champions of Azeroth Tabard

World Of Warcraft Classic Dungeons Guide

Running dungeons and raids will be quite different in World of Warcraft Classic

Running dungeons without a Group Finder??

Running dungeons and raids will be quite different in World of Warcraft Classic, not only in terms of content, but in attempting to find a group to join you. The Dungeon Finder or “Looking for Dungeon” (LFD) system was not implemented until patch 3.3.0, and it will not be in Classic either.

This means that if you do not have any friends online and you are looking to run, say, The Deadmines, you have two options: First, sit in Westfall and spam the channels there with a message like, “LFM Deadmines, have a tank, need healer and DPS.” Or second, head to a busy city like Stormwind and spam the same message in the LFG channel there. You may find someone quickly, or you may spend an hour searching with no success.

Once you find group members, you then need to run all the way back to the dungeon entrance. There is no instant teleport like today. Instead, there will only be Meeting Stones, which still require two people to already have run there in the first place to summon the rest. If someone decides after beginning a dungeon that they need to leave, you will need to repeat the process. This was why completing a dungeon used to be considered a bigger deal if you used a Pick Up Group (PUG) for the whole thing.

Dungeons for the Horde, Dungeons for the Alliance

Geographical location is suddenly relevant again as certain dungeons were designated as “Horde” or “Alliance,” at least in where they were placed. “Wailing Caverns” for example is close in level range to the “The Deadmines,” but is easily accessible to the Horde, with the other being easily accessible to the Alliance. Players wishing to visit these dungeons are not restricted from doing so, but they will be in for a long run through enemy territory.

With this in mind, adding good, polite players to your friends list goes a long way. Playing as a healer or a tank does as well. This carries over today in the short queue times when using the LFD or LFR tool, compared to selecting only a DPS role. If you are a competent healer or tank, you will find yourself on a lot of players’ lists. This is what players used to refer to in that WoW was a more social game during Vanilla, and they were right. The implementation of the group finder made it so you never had to talk to anyone if you did not want to, and if the group was not to your liking, leaving and re-queuing after your debuff wore off is all you need to do.

Need Before Greed

Blizzard has been clear in stating that loot trading of soulbound gear will only be available in endgame trading to help guilds ensure that the proper player receives an item and to cut down on requests for a GM to come and fix a problem.

Everyone else is going to have to deal with whatever happens in a dungeon. This means that if there is a beautifully-stated caster staff, one that would be a great upgrade to you, the only caster in the group, but you lost the Need roll to a hunter who accidentally (or “accidentally”) clicked on it, there is nothing that can be done. Do your best to not let it bother you, and try to group with people you trust.

The High Cost of Being Multi-talented

Finally, one last point about dungeons is the expensive, but unavoidable costs of resetting talents. As there is no dual-talent specialization in Classic, and the cost goes up to a certain maximum every time you reset your talents, Healers and Tanks may ask you or the party to cover that cost if they are coming as a favor to you.

Any players who remember Vanilla WoW can attest to the absurdity of attempting to level up as a Protection Warrior or Restoration Druid. They will likely be in a DPS talent spec, and sharing the costs among a party was, and will be again, another part of the game.

For a complete list of all the dungeons in Classic, check out Wowhead Classic. It will likely be a site players visit often as they slowly level their way through the multitude of quests that are available.

World of Warcraft Hunters Guide

World of Warcraft (WoW) is only for those who have a passion for action and adventure. In this game, the gamers go on various classic adventures which are set in the mythic and timeless world of Azeroth. They combat in the primeval grounds of the magical world of Azeroth. In this game, the gamer has the liberty of becoming anybody such as a warrior, thief, magician, priest, or even orc, dwarf or a tauren. No matter what you choose to be; one thing is for sure that WoW hunter’s guide will definitely prove handy in providing you the best.

However, you need to bear it in mind that you cannot become expert in just one sitting. Most of the times, it takes a lot of practice and at times how rigorously you prepare yourself, the failure is inevitable. A hunter plays a significant role in Warworld similar to olden days provided the gamers must be aware what they are doing.

World of Warcraft hunter’s guide instructs the gamers that a hunter and his beast cannot be separated at any given point of time.

If you are able to master the art of ‘Tracking’, then as a hunter you will be able to locate your prey with deadly accuracy. On the other hand, the WoW hunter guides also teach ‘Beast Soothe’ and ‘Beast Taming’ that enable you to deal with even an aggressive animal in an easy manner. So, when the compatibility between the hunter and the beast is established, all that needed is merely a simple ‘Call’ for the loyal companion of the hunter who comes to help him.

One important thing to be noted here is that WoW guides are not meant for those with weak mind. The gamer comes across a number of dangerous enemies that lurk around. These enemies may be in small caves or dark dungeons. To tackle these enemies, the gamer is equipped with a variety of armory which includes ‘Aimed Shot’, ‘Personal True Shot Aura’ and so many others. The guide describes all the important techniques that are needed by a hunter such as setting traps foe foes, control over their movement and finally acquiring victory over the enemy. It has been proved that hunters with ranged weapons are more powerful compared to warriors. Although, it is right that both of these classes own the bow and rifle skills; the hunter possesses rare class abilities which prove or increase his attacks using his bows and rifles.

If you sum up the WoW hunter guide; then its first section informs about ‘character creation’. Here the most important is the race selection. All the different races have been covered with both positives and negatives of each race.

Second section comprises of stats and formulas which come in handy for those who are playing the game for quite some time now. Another section is of fighting. Though it is small, yet it encompasses some strategies that are supposed to be known to the hunters. However, its usability is decided according to the time the gamer has been playing the game.

In conclusion, WoW guides are really helpful to create a successful hunter character.

World of Warcraft Invaded by Zombies

Precursors to the Lich King

More than one MMO specialized sites are reporting that World of Warcraft is being assaulted by zombies. The event seems to be a part of the pre-launch period, which began with the 3.02 patch and that will continue until Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion to the Blizzard-made MMO, will finally arrive to the cheers of players worldwide.

The threat was first noticed when crates began appearing in Booty Bay. They were covered in strange runes and anyone who dared open them would become a zombie. This means that regular abilities are inaccessible, regardless of characters’ class or level, and that new zombie abilities are added. Zombies have about ten minutes to be healed back to normality, after which the transformation is pretty much complete, and players will infect everyone else who comes in contact with them. Argent Dawn agents are positioned in all capital cities and in other locations, trying to contain the disease while saying “The plagued tendrils of the Lich King lurk close.”

Attacking zombies are now ready to strike at all major city hubs, and there are even NPCs that have been turned. Players are apparently playing along, with the chat channels inundated with cries of “Brain!” as the disease spreads through the MMO game world. The good news is that no permanent damage is applied to a character that has been turned, and death makes the character appear as himself again.

The event will likely go on for some time, but observing the chatter on the Blizzard forums shows that the developers are saying this is a containable threat, even if most players are more than happy to play the zombie side and devise strategies to take out as many uninfected characters as possible. Blizzard is likely to also have other events ready, leading up to the launch of Wrath of the Lich King.
