    Campaign Basics

The Campaign editor is located in the same row as the trigger editor, it has an icon of a book.
The campaign editor lets you make a series of maps like the single player campaigns that come with Warcraft III.
Campaign files have the extension (.w3n). A campaign starts of as an empty file where you can add all of your finished maps.
When you save a campaign file, it will add all of your maps and imported data into one file.
The campaign editor is the icon of a book in the toolbar.
It is also available under the Module menu.

To add a map to the campaign, click on Edit, Add Map.
Once a map has been added, always edit the map inside the campaign editor.
Each map will need a campaign button.
You can add campaign buttons under the Loading Screen tab, by clicking Edit, Add Button.
Select your map that you placed in the campaign editor.
Right click it and select Edit Map.
To set the levels in your campaign, use the trigger ‘Game – Set Next Level’.
This only works in single player.
You will also need a victory or defeat condition as well.

A cache is a file that is saved on the computer thats stores the information.
The game cache can store information from one level, and load it when you play the next level.
It can save objects like a hero or character, and load them again after the level is finished.
To store a hero into the game cache, use the game cache triggers.
You will need to specify a file for saving the cache, and the hero unit.

Then to later load a hero from the game cache, use these triggers.

The game cache can also store integers, arrays and variables.
You can save the game cache by creating a trigger that says Save Game Cache (category is game cache) and leave the settings as is, and click ok.

Viewer’s Guide: Mythic Dungeon International 2020

We’re back, dungeon-runners! The Mythic Dungeon International (MDI) is coming to YouTube beginning April 11. There have been some major changes this year, but the MDI is still pushing the craziest keys and facing the most fearsome affixes. Here’s everything you need to know.

    Where to Watch

All of the MDI events this year will be streamed live via YouTube. You can subscribe to the Warcraft YouTube channel and hit the bell to be notified when broadcasts are live. Check out the Warcraft YouTube Community tab for more great content.

    Format Changes

We’ve made a few changes to the format this year, the Europe and Asia (EU/Asia) division includes players from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Korea, China, and Taiwan.

The Americas division includes players from The Americas, Australia, and New Zealand.

Teams will participate in the division based on where the majority of their team’s players reside.

    Broadcast Schedule

All MDI Cups will broadcast on Saturdays and Sundays local region time on the Warcraft YouTube channel. See below for the broadcast dates and start times by region.

    Pacific Time

    Central European Time

New Year, New Dungeon, New Affix

We’ve added a new dungeon to the rotation this year with Operation: Mechagon. This dungeon provides 8 challenging bosses split in two separate wings—Junkyard and Workshop.

With the Visions of N’Zoth content update comes a new season of competitive play and a new Affix to contend with—Awakened.

While the Awakened affix is active, players will discover obelisks throughout the dungeon, which will pull players through the veil to the shadowy world of Ny’alotha. There, players will confront a powerful servant of N’Zoth which they must defeat, or the servant will join forces with the final boss in the instance.

Hailing from Italy, Caroline “Naguura” Forer has come a long way from waiting for her brothers to get off the computer so she could log in and play her Paladin. “When I couldn’t play, I would just sit for hours and watch my brothers play, then jump straight on as soon as they left the chair,” she said. From Paladin to Druid and from healing to damage, Caroline grew up with the game and went on to establish herself at the core of the EU PvE scene. Now with years of experience, a multitude of World Firsts under her belt, and her own forays into WoW esports (both competing and casting), she returns to the MDI casting team.

Former captain of the 4-man MDI team Sinking Ship, and self-proclaimed #2 Balance Druid, Peyton “Tettles” Tettleton’s appearance on the MDI desk will be one for the ages. Overall, his goal for the broadcast is to help viewers understand what makes the runs successful. “There is a lot of nuance in Mythic Keystone dungeons, and being able to teach the path to victory for each team is important,” he said. You can catch him on his stream or on YouTube, where he primarily focuses on PVE content. He also authors the Wowhead Balance Druid Guide. He loves a good-natured meme and ridiculous photoshopped photos of himself.

Dan “AutomaticJak” Anzenberger has been a part of the MDI crew since the beginning, and he’s been topping off health pools in World of Warcraft for many years. He is most well-known for his healing guides for the past three expansions on YouTube and Wowhead, where he plays all healers but specializes in Holy/Discipline Priest and Mistweaver Monk. He enjoys sharing his love of healing, so if you’re a healer looking to step up your game, or a tank/DPS looking to better understand your healers, Jak will be here to cover it all.

Alex “Xyronic” Tatge is a Warlock extraordinaire, winning the first U.S. World First in the past eight years. You can find his guides on Wowhead, where he breaks down everything a master of shadow magic would need to know, including talent builds, Azerite gear, spell rotations, macros and addons, Mythic+ guides, and more.

Tristan “Dratnos” Killeen is a jack of all trades in World of Warcraft PvE. Raiding at a high level himself, he’s also done coverage for the Race to World First. In Mythic Keystone dungeons, he creates routes for each dungeon every week, and nearly made it to an MDI cup. Dratnos has a thorough understanding of all the different things that can go wrong in a dungeon and is ready to share that wisdom with you.

Gillian “Eiya” Long started working in esports in 2016. She has worked as a stats producer, observer, and tournament admin, and her passion for WoW esports is evident behind the camera and in-front. A WoW fan since Burning Crusade, Eiya debuted as sideline reporter and host last year. Most recently, she hosted the Complexity Limit Race to World First and the Keystone Masters Tournament.

    Going Remote

For the health and safety of our casters and staff, the MDI will be moving to broadcast remotely. Fortunately, our broadcast schedule will continue as planned while our production and casters will be working from home.

    Stay Connected

Stay connected and stay on top of the latest news by following us on YouTube and Twitter. Check out Raider.IO, and check out the broadcast schedule on our esports page.

How to Unlock the Secret Tower Defense Level

Developer Blizzard Entertainment hid secret levels in its older titles, and The Frozen Throne carries on that tradition. There’s a secret tower defense level within the game called The Crossing. To gain access to it during The Dungeons of Dalaran, the Alliance campaign’s third chapter:

Find a room with three sheep in it. In front of the sheep are three glowing floor panels. When a unit touches a panel, the sheep will say one of three words: Baa, Ram, and Ewe.

Place a unit on each panel, one at a time, so the sheep say the words “Baa, Ram, and Ewe” in order.

A door will open nearby. Enter it and activate the circle of flying fiery sheep to unlock The Crossing level.

How to Get the Hidden Tomes of the Ancients

Gain two Tomes of Intelligence, one Tome of Strength, and two Mana Runes during the Night Elf campaign. To do that, kill all Makruras located in the top left corner of the map, then use Maiev’s Blink ability to reach the top of the wall in the farthest north section of the base. You will see the message, “Secret Area Tomes of Ancients Discovered.” Pick up the tomes and mana runes.

How to Get a Hidden Mana Rune and Tome of Strength

Find a hidden island with some goodies during the Night Elf campaign’s Chapter 1: Rise of the Naga. The island is across the water from some burning boats along the coast and it can be reached using Maiev’s Blink ability. Once you reach it, defeat the naga there to claim your rewards.

How to open the Warcraft 3 World Editor?

Almost everyone knows how to open the World Editor. But there are still people who could use a few suggestions.

Here is a screenshot of me, opening the editor from my Start Menu:

How to open the World Editor

You can also open the World Editor from the Warcraft III install path:

World Editor.exe in the Warcraft 3 folder

To verify that the World Editor is running, press CTRL+ALT+DEL and find worldedit.exe on the second tab’s list:

Check for worldedit.exe in the Task Manager

If you don’t have the CD, worry not! Patching the game to any version above 1.21b will allow you to play without the CD in your drive. Download the latest patch from Blizzard: link.

Protected maps will crash your editor if you try opening them. This is not a bug. Read about map protection here. Examples: DotA, RPGs, 3ICE’s Maze Designer, and most of my other maps. None of these maps will open in the World Editor. Deprotection is possible. Map makers usually protect their maps to prevent content theft or rigging.

Not to the hundreds of people who emailed me about it so far. On average I get two emails a day asking how to open the editor.

A lot of people are incredibly stupid.

    Or maybe I shouldn’t say stupid…

“A lot of people are incredibly inexperienced with computers.”

There we go, I can be sympathetic too.

You gave a detailed explanation, but there is one problem: you assume that everyone playing the game is running a Windows OS. What about us that are running Mac OSX?

Mac people should be able to run the Optimizer from inside a Windows emulator. I have never tried that though, as I don’t have access to Macs anywhere. (Work/School/home – they all use PCs.)

There are also MPQ editors available for Mac OSX, like MPQ Extractor:

Edit #2: I remember reading that game development on a Mac is like hell, due to the lack of tools. Most map makers prefer Windows.

Alo,my name is Ink,i already solves how to add tree, gold mine and strat locations and other basic decorate and terrain change in the world editor to create some melee map or non melee map.still,i have a question left, now the only way i create pg warcraft map is to use super big map,how do i create a link between two different map, such as warcraft 3:Frozone throne, orc bonus champaign, they set the way as rpg.

Not many people bother with the Campaign Editor (Hotkey: F7) because the campaigns created by it only work in single player. Here is how to open it:

If you know how to extract files from MPQ archives, you can even open the Orc Bonus Campaign maps:

How do I download Warcraft III world editor anyway?

Edited by 3ICE: Capitalized “how”, “i”, and “warcraft”, added a question mark, removed fake URL (was “http://a”) fixed email address (ended in “yahoo.coma” instead of “”, removed name (was “asd”).

Why do so many people think it needs to be downloaded separately from WC3?

It comes with the game, and is installed automatically.

Edited by 3ICE: Removed fake e-mail address and website. (You don’t need to fill those in! They have always been optional fields.)

can you give me link to download warcraft 3 world editor?

hi guys . can anyone tell me how to download world editor in warcraft 3 . couse mine is not working . tnx

Edited by 3ICE: Moved URL to email. Ridiculous mix up…

I’d love to get to the bottom of this. To understand what’s going on with these people who are unable to open their world editor… Because there are many.

You are one of them. The many people who are looking for a “world editor download” when it’s already right in front of them. It worries me. Why do people look for such a thing? Ignorance? Or some technical problem?

You say it isn’t working, that’s a start at least. So you managed to find it.

    Details? Logs? Error messages? Anything?

Here is the error report that pops up almost immediately after launching the Warcraft III World Editor. This is the original game I think, it’s a legitimate copy and I have Mac OS X 10.6.8.

Process: Warcraft III World Editor [216]

The Windows 8+ app launch process is fairly straightforward. You simply type the name of the app into your start screen and it shows up.

Press START → type “World Editor” → hit Enter

World of Warcraft: Why People Play is Linked to their Personality

Why do people play video games?

While researchers and psychologists have found many answers — to socialize with others (e.g., form relationships, provide and receive social support, and build collaborations), to gain a sense of achievement (e.g., acquire status, power, or domination over others), or to immerse themselves into a world outside the ordinary — there’s not a lot of consistency in how motives are measured in gaming research.

This means it’s really hard for researchers to compare their data with other scientists’ data in the same field, making broad generalizations about video games and gaming difficult to come by.

Enter a new exploratory study by Graham & Gosling (2013) to help shed some light on the problem.

Given researchers’ past inconsistency, this new study “sought to build on previous research by examining the degree to which game-playing motivations (e.g., socialization, achievement, and immersion) are associated with personality traits in the most popular MMORPG, [World of Warcraft, also known as WoW].”

Not surprising, the study’s subjects were mostly young adult men. About 1,413 (166 women) WoW players participated in this study (mean age=26.04, SD=7.50). On average, participants played WoW nearly 24 hours per week and had played for nearly 20 months at the time of sampling.

Subjects in the study completed two psychological measures — a personality assessment, the 44-item Big Five Inventory, and a 20-item Motivations for Play in Online Games scale developed by previous researcher Yee.

People high in different personality traits tended to play for different reasons.

As expected, individuals motivated to play WoW for the purpose of socialization tended to be high on extraversion. Additionally, individual’s playing WoW to socialize were relatively high on agreeableness, neuroticism, and openness, but low in conscientiousness. Approximately 10% of the variance in social motivations was accounted for by the Big Five.

Contrary to our hypothesis, achievement motivation was negatively related to conscientiousness. Achievement motivation of WoW players was also negatively related to agreeableness and openness, but positively to extraversion and neuroticism. Approximately 5% of the variance in achievement motivation was accounted for by the Big Five traits.

As expected, individuals playing WoW for immersive motives were relatively high in openness. Those motivated to immerse themselves in the game were also relatively high on neuroticism and agreeableness, but lower on extraversion and conscientiousness. Approximately 10% of the variance in immersion motives was accounted for by Big Five traits.

WoW gamers motivated to play for leadership purposes tended to be extraverted, conscientious, and open, and lower in agreeableness and neuroticism. Approximately 15% of the variance in leadership motivation was accounted for by the Big Five.

Individuals with motives of independence tended to be low in extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism, but high in openness. Approximately 3% of the variance in independence motivation was accounted for by the Big Five.

What’s this mean? The researchers explain:

As increasing numbers of people engage in virtual environments on a daily basis, it becomes more important to understand who is spending time in these spaces and why. Individuals select and manipulate their daily environments in the offline world to suit their needs, so it is reasonable to assume that they also do so in the online world.

There are numerous kinds of virtual environments (e.g., social networking sites, blogs, and games) in which individuals spend large amounts of time, each with its own set of goals, possibilities, and norms. Therefore, it is important to examine patterns of findings at a domain-specific level. We focused on WoW because of the high number of individuals interacting in the game.

The present findings demonstrate that individuals not only have different motivations for interacting in WoW, but that their personality traits are associated with those motivations.

Surprised? I’m not really… it seems logical that we’re motivated to engage in the online world in different environments — and use different forms of entertainment, even — based upon our personality, our social skills, and our interpersonal needs. But this research demonstrates this relationship, and that the relationship is based at least in part on our personality.
