Custom Hotkeys Guide

There are over 50 Hotkeys spread across the keyboard in WC3, and with the Default Hotkeys Setup each race is different. The main ones are the Spell & Action Commands in the bottom corner like: A for Attack, B for Build, F for farm, P for Peon, M for Move, and many more for each unit and spell. Other Hotkeys include Unit # Grouping Modifiers (Ctrl, shift, tab, etc), and the Inventory Items (on the Numpad).

The more you move the mouse to click those Command icons, the less your focusing on your Unit Micro. This guide will help improve increase your APM (Actions Per Minute) accuracy and efficiency with Customkeys.txt and AHK. This is NOT considered cheating or hacking.

Alternate Spell & Action Commands [ edit ]

In the example image above, you can see how Improved Hotkeys differ from other common setups. Most people know the Grid Align Setup but, I do not like those because it sets the spells to ZXCV. I fixed it around so the spells are now QWER, Attack/Stop/Hide remain A/S/D and move is Z (for Zurround!) it’s the same for every race, hero and units, great for playing random! This way is more like LoL or HotS with unit spells closer to the # keys, and it works well with inventory item switcher too

You can get these Customkeys.txt here from the Download button on Pastebin between raw and embed, right-click choose Save As make sure to place it in your DocumentsWarcraft IIICustomKeyBindings folder -OR- C:Program FilesWarcraft III depending on your version, and in the WC3 game Options menu click Enable Custom Keyboard Shortcuts

Compatibility with Custom Games might not be 100% for DotA try this

CustomKeys Generator [ edit ]

There is also a generator for hero und unit hotkeys only, which can be found here

Inventory Items & Other Hotkeys [ edit ]

Since WC3 is a bit older, some of the Hotkeys were ignored and left out from Customkeys.txt so you have to use something like AutoHotkey for Inventory Items, it’s the same as Warkey but lets you swap ANY key, swap inventory hotkeys so T = TownPortal G = Potion etc, also disables WinKey or Alt+QQ from closing game, and NumLock pauses the Script on/off for chat.

Read instructions carefully: First install AHK from its quick and easy. Copy my TXT script over to a new AHK file, or download and rename to .AHK instead of .TXT then place it in your WC3 folder and create shortcut on desktop, right-click on shortcut properties to Run as Admin. You should probably get Customkeys.txt first.

  • Inventory Items .AHK script set to TYGHBN
  • Or alternative Inventory Keys set to Alt+QWEASD
  • Another set instead of Numlock use F5 to Pause
  • Or use Spacebar or Shift instead of Alt (just edit lines near bottom of script)

AHK can do a lot of cool things like swap mouse buttons too, helps if you have a multi-button mouse. My favorite is swap Ctrl with the Spacebar, I left this as optional incase some people didn’t want it, but you just have to go to the bottom of the AHK script and edit the following lines

    Xbutton2::Numpad7 Tips on Unit Group Formations [ edit ]

Positioning techniques are vital to winning battles. Microing in small narrow areas is not easy, if Ranged units are infront or blocking Melee units, you could lose to a weaker army. Auto-Formation (Alt+F) can be switched Off/On. Most players keep Formation Off so units move faster across the map. If you have Formation On you will not be able to retreat as quickly, but Formation is helpful at certain points of attack.

It’s better to attack creeps from a distance, pull them back to reduce HP loss and prevent creepjacks.

You must manually set your Group #keys using Ctrl. Always add units and buildings to a # when constructing. You can use the building #s to train units while attacking or creeping, without moving the screen back to your base.

Every player Groups their units differently. Some people use the F1-F3 keys to select their heros, other players set their heros to a #. Here are some common methods for # Groups:

Basic -OR- Advanced
Group #1= Tier 1 units 1= Melee units
#2= Tier 2 2= Range/Air
3= Tier 3 3= Caster/siege
4= Workers(militia/burrow,etc) 4/5= Other (for big army)
5= Tier1buildings 6/7= Workers(militia/burrow,etc)
6= Tier2/3 bldg 8= Tier2/3 bldg
0= Altar 9= Tier1buildings
0= Altar
Additional Keys include:

= Idle worker

Backspace= Town hall(s)
Tab=Choose units in selected group and Space= View recent alerts

Thats just a general idea, use what you feel comfortable with. With over 12 in one group, combine some or change it up depending on strat and army size. Try different variations, but never mix melee with siege. You can also use 4 as air and 5 as siege, but thats a lot of keys and you probably don’t need that many groups.

Extras [ edit ]

To complete the set, I created a list of all other hotkeys

Heres a detailed guide on basics for beginners

And for fun, the history of WarCraft

If you have any questions please contact me on Reddit and I’ll try to help, I know some people don’t like switching hotkeys but, just give it a few days of practice to sink in I hope these help glhf 🙂

Programming and Tech Tips

The Best Control Scheme for World of Warcraft

Are you looking to improve your World of Warcraft ability? Are you confused by what keybinds are used for? Do you ever get flustered when overrun by enemies? Have you ever known what to do, but couldn’t find the ability you were trying to use fast enough? Do you ever just not use abilities because it is too much bother to do so? Do you ever think there are simply too many abilities to keep track of? You have come to the right place.

I have suffered with this game for all these reasons and more, and eventually realized the cause of my frustration was the controls. And now I am going to share perhaps the best control scheme that solves all of these problems. Using this method, and with some practice, you will be able to play nimbly and deliberately.

Misleading Default Controls

The default WoW control scheme suggests a very odd way of playing the game that de-emphasizes quick movement and actions. The movement keys (“QWEASD”) are on the left side of the keyboard, but the action keys run the length of the number row. This suggests that you are meant to take your fingers off the movement keys or your hand off the mouse to use most of the action keys. In other words, you have to sacrifice movement for performing actions. Most people come to realize the inherent problem with this, so they will only use the few keys they can reach without taking their hand off the movement keys or instead of using the keybinds at all, just click on the actions with the mouse. Or, like I used to do, an inconsistent combination of all these methods.

Looking at the controls, of the six movement keys, half are fast moves and half are slow moves. Moving forward and strafing (“QWE”) are the same fast speed, while turning and backpedaling (“ASD”) are very slow. With action keys being hard to reach and half the movement keys being very slow, the controls imply that you aren’t supposed to move all that much during a fight. Unfortunately, that couldn’t be further from the truth. A competent player is constantly positioning themselves all throughout a fight.

If you are using the slow movement options and can’t immediately access all of your skills, you won’t stand a chance in a PvP situation or even a difficult mob encounter. Is there anything we can do about this? You bet there is.

The Solution

The designers must have realized the keyboard controls alone wouldn’t be enough and added other control options. By holding the right mouse button and moving the mouse, you can turn as fast as you want and by holding both the left and right mouse buttons, you move forward. They also gave the players a ton of options with the controls and the UI through the use of addons. First let’s break down the control options.

We can see the multiple controls available, some faster than others, in this chart.

Action Keyboard Mouse
Forward Fast Fast
Backpedal Slow —
Turn Slow Fast
Strafe Fast —

There is no way to backpedal fast, but it is needed so rarely, we are just going to ignore it. In order to turn fast, your hand has to be on the mouse. That is a hard lock, there is no other option for turning. If we can put all the fast moves on the mouse, it would allow the entire keyboard to be used for action keybinds and your left hand wouldn’t be locked to any position. The surprisingly simple solution is to bind the strafe keys to your mouse’s side buttons. Don’t have them on your mouse? You can get really cheap mice like this one that will work just fine.

I know this sounds weird and it does take time to get used to, but it is worth it. Practice just running around the cities using only your mouse until you are comfortable with it. You’ll get even better over time as you build up muscle memory. Make sure you can circle-strafe, that is, turn and strafe at the same time so you stay pointed at a target.

There is a great video on YouTube demonstrating moving with your mouse.

Now while you’re getting comfortable moving with the mouse, you can be planning your keybindings. Technically, you have the whole keyboard to work with, but realistically you can put everything you need on the left side of the keyboard so your hand can stay in a really comfortable position at all times. I bind four rows of six keys each (1-6, Q-Y, A-H, Z-N).

To make the UI match this configuration, you have to use an addon like Bartender or Bongos that lets you place the action bars anywhere you want on the screen. Here is what my UI looks like:

You probably noticed I don’t have “Q” and “W” bound to anything. After everything I just told you about using the mouse alone to move, ironically, I find it hard to use the mouse to move forward and strafe at the same time, so I bind “W” to move forward and “Q” to autorun. That way I can seamlessly switch between them. Some people like to bind a modifier key with “W” to autorun, but that causes a stutter in your movement to switch, which is no good if you’re trying to open some distance from your opponent.

Now we’ve got plenty of keys to work with, but we want to make use of everything we can to get an extra edge over the competition and there is an interesting thing left unused on the mouse: the scroll wheel. It’s default of zooming in and out is very useful, but we can enhance its usefulness. First I bind zooming to Control-Scroll. The scroll wheel is fantastic for abilities you need to spam since it’s so easy to scroll up or down. Clicking the scroll wheel can also be bound. In my UI, I added a section of 6 actions that are bound to scroll up, scroll click, scroll down and the shift-modified variants.

I’ve added it to the right side of my keyboard bindings.

Conclusion and Next Steps

Now it is just a matter of laying out your character skills in whatever manner you find best. Making this change was critical in my enjoyment of the game, and I hope it helps yours as well.

World of Warcraft: How to Get Dire Maul & Key

Home » Guides » World of Warcraft: How to Get Dire Maul & Key

Dire Maul is a legendary dungeon in World of Warcraft’s history, and its recent release in World of Warcraft: Classic has totally changed the set-up of the game’s best-in-slot items. Not only does the loot whet the appetite, but it’s one of the best dungeons in the game’s history. Find out how to get Dire Maul key and how to get to Dire Maul.

How to Get to Dire Maul in World of Warcraft

So, how do you even get to Dire Maul? The dungeon is located in Feralas, which is a little out of the way. It’s located right in the middle of the zone, North of The High Wilderness and West of Camp Mojache.

For Alliance players, the fastest way to get to Dire Maul is to fly to Thalanaar before heading West. Travel west along the main road, but be sure to avoid Camp Mojache unless you’re in the mood for a bruising. Once you reach The High Wilderness, the road will fork; follow the fork to the North to find the entrance.

If there are too many Horde players on the normal route, try flying to Feathermoon Stronghold and taking the boat East. This should get you near Dire Maul along the main road.

For Horde players, getting to the instance is significantly easier. Just fly to Camp Mojache, travel west along the road, then head north at the fork by The High Wilderness.

How to Get Dire Maul Key

The first wing of the dungeon is free for you to enter, but accessing the North and West wings requires the Crescent Key. This acts as a soft attunement for the instance, but getting the key is simple enough.

To get the Crescent Key, which you may see listed as the Dire Mail key in general chat, you must kill the imp Pusillin, who is located in Dire Maul East. To kill him, you need to follow an event where you chase him through the dungeon.

To trigger the event, players must take the left road upon entering the East wing. At the end of the road is Pusillin. Simply talk to the imp, then follow it; there is no need to chase it pace for pace as it slows down eventually, so don’t rush.

Eventually, Pusillin will stop for good, which starts a fight. Upon death, the mob will drop a Crescent Key for each party member, allowing access to the other wings of the dungeon and its much-coveted loot.

That’s everything you need to know about how to get to Dire Maul and how to get the Dire Maul key. For more on World of Warcraft, be sure to search Twinfinite.

World of warcraft walkthrough key

Location: Hellfire Citadel, Hellfire Peninsula

Reputation: Honor Hold / Thrallmar

Completion Time: 90-120 minutes

Boss Count: 3 (4 on heroic)

Getting Into Shattered Halls

The entrance to the Shattered Halls does not require a flying mount, and while characters lower than level 70 may enter, it is not recommened. To get to the entrance, go to the summoning stone near Hellfire Ramparts, but instead of going left to the Ramparts, go right up the ramp. There will be a couple NPCs blocking the way, but they are non-elite.

Unlike most instances that you simply walk into, Shattered Halls has a gate in front of it. There are a couple of ways to get in, even if you do not have the key. A Rogue with his lockpicking skill at 350 or higher can pick the lock and let the group in. Alternatively, your group can wait outside and follow other groups in, or, have a friend with a key come by and unlock the gate.

If you want to get the key, the quest line isn’t too terribly difficult, but it will take 4-5 high-level players to finish the last step. The quest begins by killing Smith Gorlunk on the Ata’mal Terrace of the Black Temple. He drops an item that begins a quest and sends your character to Honor Hold / Thrallmar.

The next step requires you to find a few items and deliver them to your respective faction’s NPC. The items are:

Most of these items are relatively inexpensive on the Auction House, and the gold rewards for completing this chain should more than cover the cost.

The final step requires your group to kill a Fel Reaver in Hellfire Peninsula. It usually takes a group of 5 players at level 70 to kill the Fel Reaver, but it can be done with less if they are geared enough. You can only complete this quest in a group (not a raid), but other people not grouped with you can still help. After you turn in the final quest in the chain you will be rewarded with the key to the Shattered Halls. Just beware, you may be inundated with requests to open the gate if you make your prized key known.

This post is part of the series: World of Warcraft Instance Guide: The Shattered Halls

The Shattered Halls is a challenging instance, both on Normal and Heroic modes. However, with the right group composition and clever tactics, it doesn’t have to be difficult. A-Z on busting open the Shattered Halls.

WoW BfA Leveling Guide for 110-120

Every World of Warcraft expansion comes with an increased level cap that means brand new content and new leveling experience. Logically, Battle for Azeroth makes no exception. Thus, whether you’re leveling a new character or an alt, you’re probably wondering what the fastest and most effortless way to lvl 120 is. Well, wonder no more because we’re here to help you, thanks to our easy-to-digest WoW BfA Leveling guide!

Check out our Marketplace to buy cheap WOW Classic Gold.

However, keep in mind that this guide is exclusively focusing on getting from 110 to 120 in a fast and easy fashion. That’s because in patch 8.1 Blizzard has decided to greatly decrease the experience needed for the 20-120 lvl range. In fact, experience has been decreased by an average of 25% per level across older expansions. For instance, the reduction for vanilla content ranges from 5% to 40% per single level, which greatly speeds up the leveling process.

What are efficient and easy-to-digest steps to level up?

Note that the following advice is based on real in-game data and all of this is arguably the quickest and most efficient way of reaching the BfA level cap.

1. Choosing the Right Zone Order for Your Faction

Once you set foot on either Kul Tiras or Zandalar (depending on your toon’s faction), you have to pick a fitting zone order. And if fast and effective leveling is your priority, this zone order would be your best bet:

Horde Players (Zandalar)

Alliance Players (Kul Tiras)

Apart from utilizing this zone order for the most efficient leveling process, you can also base your footholds in this very same order. Doing so will obviously streamline your War Campaign, so feel free to build your footholds based on this order.

2. Complete Every Quest in Each Zone

Each zone has plenty of quests and each of them will award you with pretty decent XP and even gear. Simply focus on completing all the quests in a given zone, without any distractions. Stay away from pointless world PvP and utilize your mount as much as possible to make traveling from mob-to-mob and quest-to-quest quicker.

On top of that, you’ll get a high-level Azerite item as a reward for each zone-specific quest storyline you complete. And this will definitely help you with leveling so don’t overlook doing all the quests in a given zone!

3. Turn Your War Mode On

Questing with your War Mode on will give you a nice 10% to 30% boost in XP gained from both quests and mobs, which is huge. Sure, this will leave you vulnerable to potentially getting ganked by enemy players, but that’s not such a huge issue. Just avoid enemy players when you spot any and even if someone kills you, the XP bonus will more than makeup for the time lost.

The only exception to this rule would be the War Campaign. Trying to set a foothold in hostile territory while being PvP eligible will make you an easy target for players from the opposing faction. Thus, you might want to turn your War Made off if you’re currently concentrated on your War Campaign, but it’s up to you really.

4. Don’t Sell Your Green, Blue, Epic or Legendary Items

Selling your greens, blues or purples while leveling up in BfA is far from optimal. Why? Because you can scrap them instead and get Expulsom. This reagent is used for a wide array of high-level items and can come in handy when you finally ding 120. All that you need here is the scaper for your specific faction. There’s a The Shred-Master Mk1 for Horde and Scrap-o-Matic 1000 for Alliance.

5. You Better Stop Doing Dungeons

Doing dungeons and completing dungeon-specific quests might’ve been a neat way to gain experience back in the days, but that’s no longer the case. Yes, you can definitely gain some XP and grab some gold plus items along the way. But dungeons are not the most optimal way of leveling from 110 to 120 in BfA.

The 8.0 patch that came a month before the official release of Battle for Azeroth introduced certain changes related to XP and dungeons. As a result, you’d be much better off simply doing regular quests in a particular zone. Every single one of them.

What other things can speed up leveling?

There are several miscellaneous items such as Draught of Ten Lands, Insightful Rubellite and the Goblin Glider Kit that can definitely speed up the leveling process. Some of them can increase the amount of XP that you’re gaining while others help you move across the zones faster. Now, let’s take a closer look at each and how it can make your leveling swifter:

  • Goblin Glider Kit – Gives you the ability to glide over large areas. It’d be a great idea to use this kit in zones like Zuldazar where gliding can definitely come in handy.
  • Skystep Potion – This potion will give you more movement speed bonus than when mounted. And it’s not all that expensive either.
  • Draught of Ten Lands – By using this thing you’ll gain 10% more XP for a whole hour. On top of that, all stats on your toon will get boosted by 20.
  • Insightful Rubellite – These JW gems will give you a decent XP boost. And if you’re not a JW (Jewelcrafter), you can always buy them via the AH.

What’s the best addon to make leveling faster and easier?

That’d be the Azeroth Auto Pilot, without a shadow of a doubt. Although this addon isn’t particularly new, it can definitely help you with the leveling process in Kul Tiras and Zandalar. It will skip all the cinematics for you, show you where to go through an arrow, automatically pick up and deliver quests etc. Basically, this addon is a must-have if you plan on reaching the level cap in BfA.

In conclusion, there are certain things to focus on if you want to speed up your 110-120 BfA leveling, which we’ve already listed in our neat WoW BfA Leveling Guide. Those include choosing the right zone order, completing all quests in each zone, enabling your War Mode on, not vendoring your green, blue or purple items and avoiding dungeons.

But we’d like to know what your personal approach to leveling from 110 to 120 in Battle for Azeroth is. What do you prioritize when trying to ding to 120 the fastest way possible? Let us know by leaving a comment below!

The Story So Far

The Summer Season has bought a mixed bag of continuing dominance and potential redemption stories. In Europe, Method Black & Ascendant have been tussling for the top spot all year long, with Method Black edging ahead with their superior all-round multiclassing ability. Meanwhile the surging Tempo Storm, featuring champion-tier players Alec and Niksi, have found their way back into Europe’s top tier after struggling in the Spring Season. The appropriately named The Move has been to North America what Method Black has been to Europe: ruthless in picking up 480 points out of a possible 540. They’ve blossomed from a Spring Season of missing the cut for the seasonal finals to overcoming close rivals Super Frogs and Method Orange to clinching the top spot for the Summer Finals. We’re half way through the year and BlizzCon looms for all eight of these teams. With Spring Finals winners Reformed out of the running for the Summer Finals, all eight teams in this event are eyeing that BlizzCon qualification spot and a chance to lock themselves in for the Battle for Azeroth.
