Red Dead Redemption 2: How to Complete Algernon Wasp’s 1st Exotic Items List

Here is how Red Dead Redemption 2 players can complete the first exotic collector’s item list given to them by the stranger Algernon Wasp in Saint Denis.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a very big game with a very big map, and its characters like to send players all over the place, fetching things for them. From finding a one-of-a-kind pipe for Dutch to locating a book for Jack or a harmonica for Sadie, the game has quite a few fetch quests.

Another character with a special fetch quest for players is Algernon Wasp. Algernon Wasp is a stranger who can be found in Red Dead Redemption 2‘s industrial city, Saint Denis. After getting to Chapter 4 of the game’s story and completing The Gilded Cage mission, players will find Algernon in his garden house, which is to the north of the city. Talk to him and accept the Duchesses and other Animals quest and Algernon will send players off with a list, tasking them to find 30 items in total.

Where to Find Egret Plumes

The list asks Red Dead Redemption 2 players to find five little egret plumes, five reddish egret plumes, and five snowy egret plumes. Egrets are a species of bird, and thankfully, they all spawn within a similar area. Egrets of all kinds can be found across the entire Bayou/Baywater Marsh area to the west and to the north of Saint Denis. They spawn during daytime hours, so don’t go hunting for them at night.

Egrets tend to flock together with other birds. So, unless players want to break out their binoculars and study each and every one before firing, it’s much easier to shoot down the entire flock using Dead Eye. Once the birds have been downed (they only take one shot to kill them), approach the bodies and skin them to collect the feathers. Repeat the process until you’ve collected all 15 feathers that you need.

Lady of the Night Orchids Locations

While the egret flock locations are difficult to predict, the locations of the lady of the night orchids are exact. There are almost two dozen specific places where these flowers can be found, and they’re on the side of trees, predominantly found alongside the Kamassa River. Using Arthur’s eagle eye highlights the flowers with a cloud of blue dust. The helpful video by YouTuber xGotHit above highlights 15 of these locations, as only 15 of these flowers are needed to complete the quest.

Once players have collected all two of the items on Algernon’s exotic collector’s list, they can return to the character at his greenhouse. This will set up the next exotic collector’s list, of which there are five in total, and players have to complete all of them in order to achieve 100% completion in the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is available on PS4 and Xbox One.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Can You Change Difficulty and Is There a Difficulty Trophy? What You Need to Know

Wondering if there are difficulty-based acheivements or trophies in Red Dead Redemption 2? We have you covered on the game’s difficulty settings.

Home » Guides » Red Dead Redemption 2: Can You Change Difficulty and Is There a Difficulty Trophy? What You Need to Know

Can You Change the Difficulty in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Is There a Difficulty Trophy/Achievement?

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a sprawling open world with a variety of quests, challenges and other activities. A game with this much to do can make trophy or achievement hunting a lengthy process. Since trophies and achievements are often tied to difficulty settings, those looking to 100% games need to know whether or not they should play on a harder setting. Here’s everything you need to know on whether or not you can change difficulty in Red Dead Redemption 2, and if there’s a trophy or achievement tied to playing through the game on a tougher difficulty setting.

Luckily for trophy and achievement hunters, there’s no option for changing the difficulty in Red Dead Redemption 2 before or after you start the game. This means that everyone who plays Red Dead Redemption 2 will be on the same setting.

Of course, this also means that there is not a difficulty trophy or achievement, so there’s no need to worry about that.

If you’re concerned about the game being too hard, however, there are other ways of making your experience more comfortable. Previous Rockstar games like Grand Theft Auto and even the first Red Dead Redemption have always included cheats that let you get weapons, money, etc. for free.

Using cheats like this is an easy way of simplifying the game and tailoring it to what you want. While there isn’t a built-in difficulty setting, cheats can serve a similar function by taking away some of the challenge and grind for abilities and weapons.

While we know that Red Dead Redemption 2 definitely has cheats, we’re yet to be able to uncover exactly how to unlock them or what the codes are to enable them in the game.

Once we’ve got this cracked, we’ll be sure to update this post and let you know.

That’s all you need to know about whether or not there’s a difficulty trophy in Red Dead Redemption 2. If you’re looking for more tips, tricks, and information out in the wild west, be sure to check out our complete Red Dead Redemption 2 guide wiki.

How to fix stuttering in Red Dead Redemption 2

Some CPUs don’t play nicely with RDR2. Force them to get along with this simple fix.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the prettiest games I’ve ever played, but I much prefer experiencing it as an uninterrupted stream of consciousness as opposed to a hitchy slideshow. Constant stuttering or sudden freezes are affecting quite a few Red Dead Redemption 2 players, and one week in, no official fix has been implemented yet. But this is the PC, and if there’s a problem, be it intermittent stuttering or too many clothed cowboys, we’ll do our best to solve it on our own.

The solution for most cases of stuttering, suggested in multiple Reddit threads, is to limit how much of the CPU RDR2.exe can utilize. There are various ways of doing that—Task Manager can maybe work, but you’re better off with a utility like Battle Encoder Shirasé (BES). I inherently trust any program that could also be the name of a wild mecha anime anyway. Suit up. Let’s fix this.

Download and run BES. This helpful program lets you straight up deny programs from as much CPU power as you like, forcing them to their little program knees in supplication.

Run Red Dead Redemption 2. The process needs to be active in order for BES to see it. Boot up the cowboy boot simulation.

Return to BES, select RDR2.exe, and click ‘Limit this’. Then, using the sliding bar at the bottom of BES, set the CPU limiting to -2 percent (ie, allocating use of 98 percent of the CPU power). That little buffer will ideally prevent RDR2 from choking the CPU and causing those stutters, leaving a little passage for air.

Play Red Dead Redemption 2 and note any performance changes. If the stuttering hasn’t left or has only changed in the timing or rhythm of the frame drops, try diminishing CPU resources a touch further, between -5 and -10 percent.

RDR2’s performance is already highly variable and hardware dependent, so BES could very well require a bit of tinkering to find the settings that work for you, if it works at all—it’s possible CPU-limiting may not be the solution to your particular problem. Be sure to approach the problem from every angle, too. Update your graphics drivers and knock down the graphics settings a few pegs and see if the issues persist.

I’ve been chatting with our benchmarking expert Jarred Walton throughout RDR2’s rough release week, and he says the root cause appears to be RDR2.exe juggling too many threads, or the simultaneous processes a given application kicks off to do its thing. In Red Dead 2’s case, its thing is looking fine and simulating a massive open world. We expect it to push our hardware to the limit, but not to the degree that makes it unplayable, especially if we’re sitting cozy somewhere in the recommended specs and aren’t juicing every setting to the max.

Faster CPUs shouldn’t be affected, but for slower CPUs, particularly 4-core/4-thread models (which includes all Core i5 parts from the 7th Gen i5-7600K and earlier, dating back to the minimum spec i5-2500K), RDR2 is simply throwing out too much work for the CPU to process efficiently.

Seeing how simple the fix is with a third-party program, we’d guess a patch to clean up stuttering arrives any day now. I’ve reached out to Rockstar to see when we can expect an official solution.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Developers Worked 100-Hour Weeks

Rockstar’s Dan Houser reveals that Red Dead Redemption 2’s senior developers have been working 100-hour weeks, raising questions about crunch.

Rockstar’s Dan Houser has revealed that the creation of Red Dead Redemption 2 has seen developers working 100-hour weeks. The title, which is gearing up for release on October 26, has long been at the top of many a gamer’s wish list for 2018, and with that date fast approaching fans have been excited to see the reality of a game whose publisher has stated will redefine the gaming industry.

Exactly how the title will do this remains to be seen, but Rockstar has stated that the title has a 60-hour campaign, complete with what is likely to be an extremely deep experience with a variety of nuanced characters. On top of this, the technical aspects of Red Dead Redemption 2 also seem impressive, complete with first person options, while the confirmation of Red Dead Online means that the game will expand beyond even its initial campaign.

All that, however, comes at a cost. According to an interview given by Dan Houser to Vulture, Red Dead Redemption 2 has seen some at the developer working “100-hour weeks” several times over the course of 2018. When asked to clarify by Kotaku, Houser specified that this related to the work on the narrative and dialogue for the project, rather than the game as a whole. The head writer did suggest that working excessive hours was still a truth for some senior members of staff, suggesting the developer has “some senior people who work very hard purely because they’re passionate about a project.”

According to Houser, the additional effort from some employees “is a choice,” rather than an expectation. However, when this is tied to senior employees, particularly when working “very hard” and being “passionate” about a project seem tied to working hours far beyond those recommended by healthcare professionals, it can lead to other staff members to feel pressured into following suit.

Rockstar has a history with crunch time in the run-up to a game’s release, with cases of overworking reported during the development of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption, and even if things have improved this still needs to be taken seriously. Comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick from earlier this year do suggest that there is still an attitude of long hours at the company, stating that “people are anxious to participate” during busy periods.

Crunch has long been an issue within video game development. Particularly in the run-up to a game’s release, developers have been expected to work extremely long hours without breaks or regular days off to ensure that launch date targets are met. If the example of 100-hour weeks from Red Dead Redemption 2 is to be believed, then this would mean 14-hour work days, seven days a week.

The health problems related to working long hours are well-documented but bear repeating. Studies have shown a link between working beyond a 40-hour week and an increased risk of cardiovascular issues, along with unhealthy weight gain and a higher amount of tobacco and alcohol consumption. Meanwhile, mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and stress are also more likely to develop, while long-term exposure to stressful situations is a trigger for those susceptible to schizophrenia or psychotic episodes. All in all, some may wonder whether these risks are worth it for virtual horse testicles that shrink in cold weather.

Breaking out of a mindset that allows crunch to become a norm is a difficulty that the industry as a whole faces, but it is something that has to be addressed. Even if the health concerns of employees aren’t taken into consideration as they should, the quality of the end product is also impacted, as working long hours actually makes people less productive. In video games, this could no doubt lead to more bugs, gameplay glitches, and a general failure to reach standards.

All in all, it shows that some serious questions need to be asked about the treatment of developers. Between Telltale firing staff without severance and the growth of games like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 putting a greater pressure on deep experiences that require intensive work to create, there are valid concerns about exploitation of game creators. Even if Red Dead Redemption 2‘s extra hours were a labor of love, wellbeing should always come first, and that’s something that those bestselling predictions cannot erase.

How do you decrpyt ps4 saves? WITHOUT SAVE WIZARD.

I can’t run the .exe, the app shows up in the task manager but never shows up on the screen

how do you edit online? it says u can do that in the description

This doesn’t work, from any source, don’t waste your time till someone fixes it

I have both the save wizard and rdr save editor however using save wizard pretty simple and straight foward but I have the latest. Version of rdr save editor and I cant for the life of me figure out how to sign into it theres a save on there that ws works with arthurmorgan in epilogue but in order. To download and configure it to my console I have to sign in and I’ve tried just about everything I can think of it wont take my username and password word I’ve gone into my ps4 see if my account is right I’ve I’ve changed passwords I cant even save my save in advance mode and open it up using editor which dont require a sign in I just keeps saying load somone help me please it’s the only damn edit I want everything from money to weapons. Ect I can do on my own. Only thing I can think of maybe because my ps4 hasnt been online in order to prevent the patches which hold you back from becoming an actual outlaw b and e on locked doors scoping out best house to steal horses. And money by anymeans allowing me to focus on Arthur and in 3 hours have both white and epilogue arabian but tamed not wild and both epilogue turk and fox for hunting and challgeges…. if it needs to be on for a short time can I stop the up date of rdr2 if I put it on?

Can you use it for Xbox and if you can what are the controls to open it and close it

Interface won’t load. Just get a loading icon then nothing.

This is a great mod! You deserve a lot of credit, even if I understand it’s still a work in progress. I used it for a little cash and to unlock the Silver Dapple and Bay Turkoman horses. Fantastic!

Now all I would love to make this tool complete would be the ability to unlock the Frontier Vest from Uncle but for Arthur. I have added it by adding the Hex Code DCF16BF7 and adding it to one of my saved custom outfits. Now the vest is there, and it’s one of the best looking vests in the game, looking like actual deer skin with black lapels, but it’s not unlocked in my wardrobe. It’s on my character for that single custom outfit, but I’d like to have it unlocked as a normal Vest so that I an build other outfits with it. Would that please be possible?

I intended to ask for the same for the Pearson Jacket but, lo and behold, I got the quest for that item normally so now have the jacket, which is fantastic. That would be amazing for others, though. Is it possible to unlock items, especially missable wardrobe items, with the editor?

7 crucial things you should know before starting ‘Red Dead Redemption 2’

The much-anticipated next game from the folks who created “Grand Theft Auto 5” is finally here: “Red Dead Redemption 2” is available now on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

But you know that, right? You’ve seen all the ads, and maybe even pre-ordered the game ahead of time — you’re ready.

But are you really? Having spent the last week with the game’s main character, Arthur Morgan, and his fellow outlaws, I’ve put together everything I wish I had known before digging in on Rockstar’s latest 60-hour epic.

1. The game is aggressively slow. Embrace it!

The opening to “Red Dead Redemption 2” finds Arthur and his friends on the run from the law, holed up in an abandoned set of cabins during a brutal snow storm.

It’s a slow-as-molasses crawl through thick snowdrifts just to get to the cabins, then another slow crawl back through the snow to explore a nearby cabin. There’s no speeding through the snow, or hurrying through the mission — it sets the tone for the rest of the game.

Most games attempt to entertain players at every turn. “Red Dead Redemption 2” luxuriates in the details, which can mean watching a lot of slow animations. Arthur opens a drawer. Arthur checks a body for loot. Arthur carefully places an animal hide on his horse.

Embrace the details — it’s what “Red Dead Redemption 2” does best.

2. Don’t worry about money.

By 1899 standards, Arthur Morgan is an absolute baller. By a few hours in, I had accrued a ridiculously large amount of money, as had the gang. I never thought about money again.

You can buy supplies, and ammunition, and outfits, and all manner of other things. But you rarely need to — much of that stuff can be easily scrounged from dead enemies or while on missions. I never found myself worried about having enough supplies, to say nothing of money to buy supplies with.

After all, this is a game about being an outlaw — and that means robbing and stealing. You’ll do plenty of that just as a matter of playing the game, so don’t worry too much about money and supplies.

3. Do worry about upgrading your camp: Prioritize that before anything else.

The Van der Linde Gang — the one Arthur belongs to, run by Dutch Van der Linde — has a mobile home base. It’s just a camp: A handful of tents and bedrolls, benches and horses. There’s a fire for cooking, and a table for eating, and an area for the horses.

But these meager accommodations can be upgraded to great effect, and I’d strongly suggest frontloading the game with exactly that.

Most importantly: Upgrade Dutch’s accommodations (“First Things First”) and the subsequent upgrade for Arthur’s housing. The first one will encourage other gang members to pitch in more money, and that second bit will unlock fast travel — a crucial component if you want to save time getting around the absolutely massive world of “Red Dead Redemption 2.”

4. Remember to take off your bandit mask and to holster your gun (unless you’re trying to get into something nefarious).

The left bumper (L1/LB) is a crucial button in “Red Dead Redemption 2.” Tap it once and you’ll either pull or holster your sidearm. Hold it down and it’ll bring up your weapon/items wheel — the quickest way to pull up or take down your bandit mask.

Players used to seeing game worlds through the barrel of a gun are in for something new: It’s crucial that you don’t constantly pull your gun on strangers. They’ll react accordingly! If you’re always pointing your gun at someone, you’re bound to have a few people pull their own in response.

Also of note: Be careful with the right trigger. It’s far too easy to accidentally blow someone away in mid-conversation. (Arthur fires from the hip when you hit the right trigger, so don’t hit it unless you intend to fire!)

5. Pay your bounties!

In the course of playing through “Red Dead Redemption 2,” you’re likely to commit a few crimes. And, in 1899, crimes in the Wild West were handled through bounties.

Such is the case in “Red Dead Redemption 2,” which is great for players because getting the law off your back can be as simple as paying a small fee at the closest post office. Bounties are on a state-wide basis, so you may have to pay a few small fines to clear your name, but it’s fully worth it: Getting hunted down by bounty hunters is no fun at all.

They descend on you seemingly out of nowhere, and it’s much easier to enjoy the game without worry of sudden attack.

6. Use Cinematic Mode!

There’s a lot of riding a horse and/or carriage from place to place in “Red Dead Redemption 2.” It can be serene and peaceful. It’s always beautiful. But it can also get pretty boring after awhile.

Good news: There’s a “cinematic mode” that allows you to enjoy the beauty and serenity without having to pay full attention to directing your horse/carriage. On the PlayStation 4, it’s a measure of holding down the touchpad in the middle of the gamepad; on the Xbox One, it’s a measure of holding down the “view” button.

You still have to tap and/or hold an acceleration button for your horse/carriage to keep moving forward, but it’ll follow the trail to wherever you’re going without you having to direct it. It sounds small, but it’s not!

As a bonus, like the name of the mode indicates, it turns the camera into something far more cinematic — with sweeping views and rollicking close-ups and much more. In so many words, it makes the game look like a movie.

7. Help strangers! (They’ll give you free stuff.)

You can play “Red Dead Redemption 2” however you want, but playing it as a good samaritan goes a long way in rewards down the line.

If you happen to find some poor sap and/or saps in need of help —bears and bear traps, bucking horses, and hostage-taking bandits abound — being a good guy will result in some pretty sweet stuff later on in the game.

Maybe you’ll get some gold, or a nice new gun, or something even better! I’m intentionally not being too specific here; you’ll have to trust me that the rewards are worth it.

Get Red Dead Redemption 2 and an Xbox One S or Xbox One X, save $100

If you don’t have a console yet, here’s a great excuse to buy one.

Hey Cheeps, Rick is off today, but he’ll be back in this space soon. In the meantime, I’ll do my best to fill his shoes.

Maybe you’ve heard of Red Dead Redemption 2 . It’s a little game the kids are talking about. Screw it, the understatement bit doesn’t cut it in this case. I’ll let Jeff Bakalar, CNET’s resident game reviewer, take over:

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a marvelous achievement in nearly every sense and a shoo-in for one of the best games of this generation.

That about covers it. This game is exceptional, and if you’re a gamer, you want to play it. But what if you don’t have a game console? Or you want the latest one?

Now through Nov. 3, if you buy the game you’ll get $100 off an Xbox One S or the new Xbox One X . Since RDR2 is an Xbox One X-enhanced game it will look better, especially on 4K and HDR TVs, on the higher-end console, but the choice is yours. And the savings is great.

The deal works for either the physical disc or digital version of the game, runs through Nov. 3 and is available at a number of retailers, including Gamestop, Amazon, Newegg, and the Microsoft Store. To get the deal at Amazon, add both items to your cart.

Even better, each store often offers another game, such as NBA 2K19, Forza Horizon 4 or PUBG as part of the bundle, depending on the console you choose. The default choice at Amazon, for example, is NBA 2K19 with an Xbox One S, and together with RDR2 the final price tag is $251 before tax. Not too shabby, cowboy.
